Chapter 9 Martha was sitting in the diner with Alf, Morag and Ric, enjoying a nice family brunch. Morag was heading back to the City that afternoon, and Alf wanted the four of them to get together for a meal. Martha didn’t complain though, she loves spending time with her family, almost as much as spending time with Jack. Since moving to the Bay a couple of weeks ago, Martha had re-created a close bond with the Stewarts, especially Ric. She saw him as not a cousin, but as a brother, and as a best friend, someone she could tell anything, and know that he’d hold it in confidentiality. After brunch, Martha and Ric went for a stroll on the beach, to walk off all the food they ate, and Martha told Ric all about last night, about Jack, and Kim, and the dinner, and the fight. “Martha!” a voice called out from behind Martha and Ric. Martha turned around to see Tasha walking towards them. “Hey Tash, what’s up? Martha exclaimed as her friend walked up to her. Tash gave Ric a could-you-please-leave look, which Ric understood immediately. “Right, well I guess I’ll talk to you later, Martha. Have a good day ladies,” and with that Ric walked off, leaving Martha in giggles. “Can I tell you something,” Tash said as her and Martha sat on the sand, “and you have to promise not to tell anyone.” Martha nodded indicating that she was listening. “Well after Rob and I split up, I started hanging out with this guy, like just as friends and in a group as well, but he was always there for me and well I think I’ve fallen in love with him.” “Tash, that’s great. You know, it’s been 2 months since you and Rob broke up. You are allowed to move on, he has. Have you told this guy how you feel?” Martha asked. Tash shook her head letting out a small sigh. “Well then what’s stopping you?” “I think he likes someone else,” Tash replied, while staring out at the beautiful blue sea. “Oh, well are they going out?” asked Martha. She knew Tash had been unlucky in love since her break-up with Rob; she really wanted to help her friend find someone. “No, not that I know of,” Martha gave her a then-what-are-you-waiting-for look. Tash laughed and thanked Martha for helping her. While the girls were talking, a body took a seat next to Martha. “Good afternoon ladies,” Jack greeted with a charming smile, and placed a soft kiss of Martha’s cheeks. Martha smiled lovingly at Jack in return, placing her head on his shoulder, while staring in to his eyes. But their gaze was disrupted by a voice. “OMG you guys are going out? Why didn’t you tell me? How long has this been going on for? This is awesome, Martha, but I can’t believe you didn’t tell me,” Tash said shooting questions at them. Martha and Jack just laughed at Tash’s excitement. “It’s only been a few days, the best few days of my life might I add,” Jack said. “Except for last night,” Martha added. Jack laughed shaking his head. “And that is why I’m here. Tash, do you mind if I steal Martha for the afternoon, I promise you can have her back later.” “Sure, off you go you crazy kids.” Tash said as she gave Martha a hug goodbye, and watched the happy couple walk off. “OMG, it’s beautiful,” Martha exclaimed as she looked around her apartment. There were candles lit everywhere, rose petals scattered on the floor, and a candle lit meal set on the dining table. Then Martha’s face dropped, and she looked a Jack suspiciously. “How did you get into my apartment?” Jack laughed, admiring the adorable frown on her face. “Ric helped me, he has a key, and I called him,” Jack said as he poured Martha and himself a glass of wine. After making a toast to the future of good times and happiness, Jack and Martha sat at the dining room table and enjoyed Martha’s lasagne that she made the night before, since it was lying in the fridge untouched and ready to be eaten. “Ah, that was delicious,” Jack said as the couple sat on the couch listening to some music. They had somehow managed to eat the whole dish, and were half way through a bottle of wine. That’s it Jack, you’ve got her back, just don’t go screwing it up again, Jack thought while stroking Martha’s hair gently. Gosh, he never fails to amaze me, just when I think he is a jerk like all the other guys, he goes a proves me wrong, not that I’m complaining, Jack is a great guy, just look at him, he’s perfect in every way, those beautiful brown eyes, soft dark hair, and that sexy Holden smile of his, one I will never get over, Martha thought. The song ‘This Old Love’ started to play on the surround system, and Martha looked up at Jack, who was looking down at her with a smile. “Would you like to dance?” Jack asked her, taking her hand and leading her to the middle of the room. Martha placed her head on Jack’s chest, listening to his heart beat, as the pair swayed slowly to the music. Even though the song had finished, the couple remained their spot looking into each others eyes. As if he knew what Martha was thinking, Jack leaned down so that his lips met Martha’s, sharing a passionate kiss, a kiss that was about lead to something more, something that they have wanted since they laid their eyes on each other. Pulling away from Jack, Martha took his hand and led him into the bedroom, where the young lovers satisfied each other with great passion and love.
