Chapter Eleven:

“Did I ever tell you I was proud of you?” Jack asked Martha quietly.

Martha looked up at him, not saying anything. No, he hadn’t said that recently, and she didn’t know he felt like that.

“Well I am.” He said, taking her hand gently “You’ve battled so much. An abusive partner, a pregnancy and that partner coming back.” He said, sitting down on the couch with her.

“Well I had some good help.” She said truthfully, staring at Jack honestly “If it wasn’t for you I doubt I would have made it through.” She added “So thank you.” She said quietly, leaning into Jack.

“I only did what any husband would do, Martha. I love you, and I’ll support you and Isabel no matter what. You two mean the world to me, I’d be absolutely nothing without you, that’s for sure. I adore you, and our daughter. I just wish we’d never broken up in the first place. You’d never have gotten into a bad relationship.”

“That relationship was my own foolish fault. I jumped in head first, without checking if there was shallow water at the bottom. That was stupid, and I could’ve done anything. What if he’d hit my stomach on one of his attacks? Isa could have been harmed and I hate to think I could’ve put my baby in danger. I hate it so badly.” She said softly.

“You were just looking for love, like we all are. It’s only natural to want to be loved, to feel wanted and cared for. I understand that.” He said, kissing the top of her head softly.

“I made a fool of it. Of myself. On top of everything he’s damn well married.” She whispered, her eyes filled with tears.

“It’ll be okay.”

“No it won’t, Jack. How will I ever get past this?” She asked, looking at him.

“You will. You need time and time is something you, I and Isabel will have a lot of.” He assured her.

“What would I do without you?” She asked, sighing with relief.

------------------------------------------------

“Here comes the man stealer.” Sam snarled as Martha headed into the diner.

“Excuse me?” Martha demanded, furious.

“You heard what I said. Busy with my boyfriend?”

“Ex-boyfriend. Jack’s my husband and he’s a father now, something you didn’t give him.” Martha sneered, pointing to the pram in point “Do you really think he would’ve stuck around with you for too much longer? I think not.” She smirked.

“Well the two of you have had enough break-ups to last the rest of your life.”

“We’re together now and that’s all that matters.” She retorted, reaching into the crib and taking the small baby carefully into her arms.

“Who knows, maybe Jack will realise he has more fun at work than at home with you and the baby. Then he’ll come to his senses.”

“What, and realise a ten year old boy’s better than his own blood? Blood is thicker than water Sam.” She said.

“Jack was a great dad to Rory while it lasted. I don’t know how he’d cope with you and her, because you’re a little bitch.” She replied, putting Isabel back in her pram.

“Is that all you ever say about people? That they’re a bitch or cow? Bring it on.” She said aggressively.

--------------------------------

“I thought you’d be at Noah’s.” Belle asked, confused as she headed in.

“No, why?” She asked, confused.

“Martha and Sam are having the biggest cat fight.” Belle told him “Didn’t you know?”

------------------------------------

The palm of Sam’s hand connected with the side of Martha’s face, leaving Martha with a big red mark on her face.

Martha felt arms around her waist, pulling her away from Sam. She struggled, she wanted to scratch Sam’s eyes out and this person was stopping her from doing that.

“Can’t fight your own battles?” Sam hissed at her.

“She can.” Jack said harshly “Get lost Sam. Nobody wants you here!” He said loudly, making sure Martha didn’t come around to swipe Sam’s face.

“You should have let her ex have her Jack. She deserved it. I don’t know why you bother putting up with her when she repeatedly stabs you in the back, first your workmate, then your best mate. Who next? Your brother?” She asked.

Martha glared at her, trying to hide the hurt. She ran outside.

Jack left Isabel with a startled Belle, and ran after her “Stop!” He ordered her, relieved when she slowed, turning around to face him.

“I can’t do it Jack. I can’t handle her. She always knows what to say and I can’t stand it. She always manages to win and make me feel horrible about myself, I just can’t stand it Jack. Just when I think everything is getting better she shows. Again.” She added, upset.

“It’ll be okay. Everything will be okay.”

Chapter Twelve:

“Oh hey Jack!” Sam greeted him later that day as though nothing had happened “Come in.” She said, inviting him in.

“I’m not staying.” He said coldly “I need to talk to you about some things Sam. Some things you obviously don’t understand.”

“Like what, you’re marriage? I sure as hell don’t understand why you’re with her. I mean, she’s bad news.”

“She’s not bad news, she’s my wife and she means a lot to me, so does our daughter. Sam I’ve come over here to tell you to stay the hell away from her. If that means I have to get an A.V.O. against you then I will. Stay out of our lives, you aren’t welcome in them. And as for bad news, the only lot of bad news I’ve had is you. I wish I’d never met you in the first place.” He spat angrily.

“I’m not bad news Jack. But if you do this, I don’t know what’ll happen. I have no life here, no job.” She said coldly.

“I will do it. So I’ll handle the results.” He said, turning on his heel and walking back to his car.

-----------------------------

“What’s going on?” Jack asked, confused.

“I think it’s best if we just stop this Jack. Let Sam have what she wants because I can’t handle it.” Martha said, pausing in her packing.

“Whoa hang on a second. Sam will never get what she wants if that is me, because my heart belongs to one woman only and that’s you Martha. Please, don’t do this.” He pleaded with her.

“She won’t leave us alone Jack! I wish it wasn’t like this but it is. It is, okay so please just stay away!” She said, grabbing for her bags.

“No, Martha please don’t!” He begged “I’ve told her to clear off and she said if I said that then she didn’t know what will happen. She had no life here and no job so please Martha please!” He said, emphasising the please.

She paused, obviously thinking “Alright, but if she comes near me again.” She warned.

“She won’t, I promise.” He assured her, grabbing the bags from her.

------------------------------

“I’m worried about her dad.” Jack confessed to his father that afternoon “She packed her bags this morning, ready to leave because of the pressure from Sam. I just can’t believe how badly it’s getting to her.”

“She hasn’t exactly had an easy lead up to this Jack. She’s probably sick of the stress and anger.” Tony said with a shrug “It would benefit both her and Isabel’s health is she wasn’t so stressed. So I understand the move mate.”

“I know all that but I hate the fact that we were nearly over. Again. Stone cold. I hate the fact that our marriage is practically walking on eggshells.” He said with a sigh.

“It’ll be alright mate. You’ll work through it.”

----------------------

“What’s happening?” Martha asked, confused as she stood in the doorway to her home, frowning at her husband.

“Nothing.” He said innocently.

“Jack!” She warned him “Tell me what is going on.” She demanded.

“We’re going for a drive.”

--------------------------

“Jack maybe we’d better head home soon.” She said, looking at the clock that said 6pm in Jack’s car.

“Nope.” He said, grinning at her as he shook his head.

“What’s going on? What’s with all the secrecy?” She asked, confused and slightly annoyed.

“We’re here!” He declared, pulling into the driveway.

“Oh my god.” She gasped, jumping out and running to the five star hotel, her complaints long forgotten.

Jack grinned, picking up Isabel “You’re mummy isn’t complaining anymore, did you notice?” He asked the two month old.

-----------------------------

“I wasn’t expecting this.” Martha admitted as they sat on the couch, holding hands and talking.

“I wasn’t expecting your whining either.” Jack said warily.

“Well I had no idea what was going on!” She protested “How long have we got anyway?” She asked, looking around the room happily.

“Two glorious weeks. Just you, me and Isabel.” He said, leaning over to kiss her lovingly.

She smiled at him “I love you so much.” She whispered, looking at him.

“I love you too. I was nearly distraught when I realised you were going to leave this morning.”

“So you practically kidnapped me and forced me to stay in a five star hotel? Harsh Jack, really harsh.” She said, grinning happily.

“Well, it was more of an assisted kidnapping. Assisted by the person I was kidnapping.” He shrugged “How are you going to survive in a hotel with just me and our daughter?” He asked her, smirking.

“It’s going to be a tough one.” She said with a shrug “But if you **** me off your on the couch.” She said seriously.

“What?!” Jack exclaimed, looking panicky.

“You are so foolish sometimes that it amazes me.” She said, shaking her head in dismay.

“That was totally uncalled for! I did nothing!”

“You did do something, actually.” She said, grinning “You brought me here. How many times do I have to repeat that. You can be so dim-witted sometimes that it really amazes me.” She said with a sigh.

-------------------------

“That was the best two weeks of my life!” Martha declared, grinning as they drove back into Summer Bay.

“That’s good.” He said, smiling at her, then turning his attention back to the road.

“Thank you for that. I needed that.” She admitted.

“I know you did. You’re so stressed that it’s not good. So I decided I’d do something. But nobody knew where we were. We just disappeared. It was very last minute, so I’m sure they think we’ve been kidnapped or something.”

“I was.” Martha pointed out.

“Well, unwillingly kidnapped.” Jack said, rolling his eyes.

------------------------------

“We figured you’d done a runner.” Luc said later that afternoon as the very much in love couple headed into the Holden/Hunter house.

“Yeah we had some stuff to get away from.” Martha said, smiling as she leant into Jack, who had his arm around her.

“I’ll say you did. But Sam’s gone for good. Her house has been placed back up for lease, and her and Rory have well and truly gone. It’s sort of sad to say farewell to Rory but I think everyone’s glad to see the back of Sam.” Tony said, smiling at Jack.

“We are very happy to see the back of her. So happy I’m not going to worry about her anymore.” Jack said, looking at Martha.

------------------------

“How romantic!” Tasha squealed.

“I know, very romantic but very welcome as well.” She said grinning.

“Oh of course! I can’t believe it! I was wondering where you’d gone.” She admitted.

“I’m fine. Jack’s fine. Isabel’s fine so everything’s great!”
