Chapter Twenty Two.

“You’re in on this with Ashton aren’t you?” Jack said, glaring at Sam as she stood in his doorway, nearly four months after Martha’s disappearance.

“What?” She asked, startled “Of course not Jack, why would I hurt a pregnant woman?” She asked, frowning on him.

“Get this through you’re thick head. I will never be with you. My wife has been missing for nearly four months now, and she’s due to have our baby any day now. So you shut up and tell me the truth.”

“I’m not involved Jack.” She said, but he still didn’t buy it.

“Tell me where the hell my wife is Sam. Or I shall be forced to reveal you’re secret.” He said evenly, looking coldly at her.

“Reveal that secret.” She said, looking at him coldly “And you’re wife won’t live to see tomorrow.”

----------

Ash was getting steadily worried. Martha was having contractions and he was suddenly realising the flaw in their flawless plan. She wasn’t meant to be six months pregnant, she wasn’t meant to be pregnant at all, she wasn’t meant to be carrying any part of Jack Holden around. But now she’d put him in a very awkward position, and he knew that he’d have to do something. He just didn’t know what.

“Please Ash.” Martha said, sweat across her forehead, and a scared expression on her face as she battled against the pain “Please, I need to go to hospital.” She said, terrified about having her baby here.

He looked at her and sighed “On one condition. If you tell anybody anything, I will run and come and take your baby away.” He said finally, looking her straight in the eye “And we leave after the baby has been given the ok by the doctor. And if you reveal it, on top of that, both your children will pay the price. So do as I say, or never see your little girl again, or this baby.”

“Alright.” She said, knowing she’d have to stick to the plan.

--------

“We’re going.” Ash hissed as Martha sat after the labour, in the hospital bed holding her daughter in her arms.

“Please, let me go.” She begged quietly.

“Do as I tell you.” He said coldly “Or Isabel pays the price!” He threatened her.

“Fine.” She said, getting off the bed and going to the bathroom to change, and soon she left with Ash, knowing she couldn’t do anything but wishing she could.

“What are you going to name her?” Ash said finally, looking at the baby in the cheap car seat he’d bought for the baby, along with a crib, some clothes, changing table, the necessities but nothing more.

“Toniya, after Tony.” She said softly “She’ll be Toni or Toniya.” She said “It was the name Jack wanted if she was a girl, Antony for a boy and Toniya for a girl.” She said, looking at the tiny bundle in the back, fortunately she’d been given the all clear.

-------

“What?” Jack asked, startled as he was rushed to a far away hospital.

“Ash has made a slip up. He let Martha deliver the baby in hospital.” Peter said, speeding slightly but he didn’t care.

“Is the baby okay?” He needed to know.

“She’s fine, apparently. Her name is Toniya, or Toni as Martha was calling her.”

“Like we had planned.” Jack said quietly, as they turned into the hospital.

---------

“I’m sorry Detective but she disappeared. The man rushed her out pretty soon after the baby was born.” One of the nurses said, frowning at them “May I ask your interest?”

“That baby is my daughter, and that woman my wife.” Jack said, glaring at the woman for holding things up, he needed to get his wife back.

“Well I’m sorry but he rushed her out very quickly, taking the baby girl with them.” She said, finishing some paperwork.

“We’re back to square one.” Peter muttered, heading out of the hospital.

-------

“What were you thinking?” Sam hissed at Ash.

“I couldn’t let her deliver that baby here Sam. She was in so much pain, and she had a long labour. She didn’t tell them anything.” Ash assured her.

“You better hope she hasn’t!” She threatened him “If this gets blown because you went soft and rushed her to the hospital, it’s on your head.”

“I know.” He muttered, sighing as he hung his head.

-----

Martha sat in the room, looking at her little girl sleeping peacefully in her crib. She sighed, but she knew there was finally hope. She’d gotten through the labour alright, but now she didn’t know how she’d go. At home, she’d have Jack here to help her, to cater to her and Toni’s every need. Here, she had nobody. Well, she had two people but those two people didn’t care if she died. Or if her daughters died. She looked at the door, they had no idea she could hear their arguing. Sam was having a go at Ash for being soft, but she was relieved Ash had shown a soft moment. Maybe now she and her daughter had a hope. All she had to wait for was maybe a month time, slowly working on him as that time went. Then maybe, she’d be free. Maybe she’d get those bars open. Just maybe, she’d see her daughter and husband again.
