Chapter Thirty Two

“Rachel’s moved on.” Jack nodded to Martha a month later.

“They’re an item?” She squealed.

“Yup. Apparently they’ve been an item for three weeks, but have been keeping it quiet in case it doesn’t go anywhere.” He nodded.

“Wow.” She said “Can you imagine if they get married, I mean Rach’ll be my sister-in-law, and Marnie my niece!” She said happily.

“You do really love getting ahead of yourself.” He said to her.

“Well, at least I do something all day.” She said, sighing.

-----

“Congratulations!” Dan said, smiling at Rachel and Tim, Tim was holding Marnie’s hand, and Tyler was standing next to Marnie.

“Thanks.” Tim said, nodding to Dan.

“It’s really great. I’m very happy for you Rach.” Leah said warmly.

“Thanks Leah. I’m happy.” She smiled “I’ll be officially divorced and able to be remarried soon, so I’m very happy.” She nodded.

“You what?” Kim asked, glaring at her, and at Tim “Who the hell are you?”

“Back from the city?” Rachel said, glaring at him “This is Tim, my boyfriend. Tim, this is my ex-husband, Kim Hyde.” She said coldly.

Tim said nothing, looking from Rachel to Tim, and then suddenly down to Marnie.

“Great, I thought we were going to try and work things out? Sure we’ve had problems but what does that matter?” He asked.

“Kim just not here, please?” Rachel said pointedly, watching Kim glare at her then leave.

“I had no idea you guys were having trouble.” Leah said sympathetically.

“I didn’t want to make a fuss. It doesn’t matter, we were losing everything in our marriage anyway.” She said calmly.

-----

“I don’t mind if you decide to give your marriage another shot.” Tim said two weeks later.

“Tim, don’t worry. Kim and I just don’t belong, it’s that simple. The sooner Kimberly Hyde figures that out, the better life will get for him. He tried using Marnie as a reason for us to stay together but I don’t want to raise my child in an unhappy marriage. He thinks I’m oh so wrong for giving up on our marriage. Am I wrong?” She asked her boyfriend.

“No, not really. I mean, you have every right to be happy.” Tim assured her.

“I was beginning to wonder. I mean, I don’t want to be with him. I don’t want to live with him until I’m old and wrinkly, and until Marnie’s old enough to deal with separation. I just want to be happy.” She said softly.

“How long have you been unhappy?”

“We’ve been struggling for nearly a year now.” She shrugged.

“Wow, I’m sorry.” He said softly.

“Don’t be, you’re the best thing to come into my life in a long time.” She smiled.

“I’m glad to hear it.” He said, giving her a kiss.

-----

“Just a beer, thanks.” Tim said to Alf at Noah’s Bar, before paying him.

Kim looked at the guy entering the bar, unable to contain his sudden hatred of him. He couldn’t believe that his wife had moved on with this man, and he hated him already. Him and Rachel only had one child, their much loved daughter, Marnie, and now she was going to be raised between divorced parents, and having stepparents. He turned away, noticing the man was deliberately not going anywhere near him.

Alf looked sideways at Kim, then at Tim. Most of the bay knew what was going on, and Alf didn’t want a scene in his bar. He tried to shoot Kim a warning look but he wasn’t looking back at him.

Tim sighed, taking the drink and going to sit at a table. He looked up when he saw Rachel entering, with Marnie and Tyler by her side “Hey.” He said, smiling at her.

“Hi.” She said, sitting beside him and pulling Marnie into her lap, smiling at him. Marnie had her mother’s curly brown ringlets, and Tyler had Tim’s brown hair.

“So, how was school?” Tim asked the kids.

“It was good dad.” Ty said, sitting beside Tim.

“That’s good.” Tim said. This time it was awkward because Kim was there, normally the four of them got along really well “How’d you go, Marnie?” Tim asked her.

“It was good.” She nodded, her brown eyes alight and happy.

“Really? I’m glad you had fun.” He told her, grinning at her.

-----

“How’s Kim?” Martha asked Jack a week later.

“He’s not going too well. He feels that Tim is taking Marnie, and he’s getting really upset by it. He absolutely hates it.” He sighed.

“I think he’s in the wrong myself.” She told Jack honestly.

“Why?” He asked her curiously.

“Because he’s jealous of her relationship. And he can’t stand seeing Rachel happy, and with Tim. He wants to be the only man making her happy.” She said, looking at Jack.

“I understand where you’re coming from, but you’re a bit biased.” He told her bluntly.

“Because Tim’s my brother?” She asked him.

“Yes, because Tim’s your brother. I mean, you would. I’d be the same if it was Luc and Belle with someone else.” He said, shrugging “But I see where Kim’s coming from as well. I’d be the same if I saw you and the girls with someone else like he did.” He said honestly.

“I guess.” She said quietly.

“What’s happening between us? Are we still taking time, or are we going to do something about it?” He asked her.

“I don’t know.” She said, sitting on the couch.

“Well, whenever you want, we can hook up again, or you can move back in.” He told her.

“Thanks.” She said quietly.
