I didn't give him a name, which just confused matters. The closest I got was "some random criminal" and "that guy." My feeling was it wasn't important who he was because he wasn't the thing Jack was afraid of. Obviously I should have thought a little harder about that :P. He wasn't really meant to be anyone in particular. Just some guy with a knife. Deep :P

Being someone who is petrified of Spiders, I can totally see where Jack is coming from, I can't go anywhere near a spider without panicking. That aside, I'll admit I did laugh. Not because he was afraid but because it was a funny fic. I give you full credit for dealing with such a fear. It was also a lovely change to read a fic of such a different style. Great writing! :)

I didn't get confused... I thought you were referring to the spider as a "he" on purpose, to emphasise that it was very important to Jack. And I liked how you did the criminal as "that guy" too, showing that Jack wasn't really that bothered about who the criminal that was holding his wife at knife point was... :) It really made it seem like to me Martha and this Criminal were blurry in the background, and Jack and the Spider in the foreground. That's another reason why I really liked it. It was written superbly. :)

I'm babbling.

I had a bit of a mental picture...a spider slitting Mart'ha's throat?

I did work it out eventually, but it was so funny, the pictures that went through my head! *falls out of chair laughing*
