Chapter Twenty One.

“How dare you.” Tony accused Jack, walking into his house the day after Jack’s confrontation with Jane.

“How dare I what?” Jack asked calmly, knowing what his father was talking about all too well.

“Treating your aunt like dirt! Jane didn’t deserve that lecture you gave her. You’re very lucky I’ve managed to talk her into staying, she was in tears and ready to leave, Jack. If she had of left it would have been you’re fault! I don’t want my sister leaving on bad terms!” He said furiously.

“Well it’s her fault.” He snapped “If she hadn’t been so unkind and cruel to Martha then I wouldn’t have had to say anything!” He said furiously.

“She hasn’t done anything Jack!” Tony yelled at him “Leave your aunt out of this, she’s on your side and she wants to protect you!”

“From what? Martha? Yeah dad she’s really going to kill me!” He said furiously, then glaring at him “I have to pick up Martha, and if you can’t support where I stand with Jane then stay the hell away from us, got it?” He snapped.

---------

“What’s wrong Jack?” Martha asked immediately, knowing something was wrong with Jack.

“Nothing.” He tried to put her off.

“What’s going on?” She demanded.

“Well, me and dad had a huge fight. Over the tongue bashing I gave Jane yesterday.” He explained with a sigh “So I told dad if he couldn’t support where I stood with Jane, then he should stay the hell away from us.”

“You shouldn’t have to say goodbye to your family, just for me.” She said quietly, accepting his arm of help.

“I should. You’re my wife.” He replied firmly.

Martha looked at him through her deep, fiery blue eyes. She couldn’t believe how lucky she was to have him, and she was thrilled she’d agreed to give their relationship another go.

----------

“Jack.” Martha called softly, looking at a note on the table “Look.” She said, picking up the note and offering it to Jack.

As Jack read it, his lips got thinner and thinner “Great.” He spat.

“What?” She asked, confused.

“Dad’s all in a huff, and not changing his mind.”

---------

“We should go to your dad’s birthday.” Martha reminded him, as they lay on the couch watching a movie.

“No we shouldn’t.” He said firmly.

“How will your dad feel without his sons there!” Martha wanted to know, looking at both Jack and Lucas as they were in the room, both having ignored the invitation to their father’s birthday.

“I do think we should go guys.” Belle asked, looking pointedly at Lucas.

“I think we shouldn’t.” Luc said coldly, desperate for a change of subject.

“Luc, please.” Belle said quietly, looking at him.

“No Belle. He made his choice, he chose her over us so just leave it.” Luc said, turning his attention back to the movie, which none of them had seemed to have paid any attention to.

Martha looked at Belle and sighed, knowing that they were in for a night where their husbands would be pretty hard to get along with, and maybe – oh joy – they’d have a fight or two, judging by their moods.

--------

“It’ll work out.” Beth assured Tony, the next day.

“My sons hate me so much they didn’t even turn up to my birthday celebration. I’ve messed things up so much.” He mumbled, staring into space.

“I’m sure it’s their wives.” Joseph said matter-of-factly. He’s seen Martha, and met Belle, and liked neither of them. He couldn’t believe his nephew’s had made such bad choices.

“I’m sure this was Martha and Belle’s fault, yes.” Jane said, handing around coffee for everyone who wanted some.

“I’m sure Lucas and Jack made the decisions of their own accord.” Beth said, choosing her responses carefully.

Erica rolled her eyes to Beth, her feelings on the situation clear “Obviously something needs to change.” She said bluntly.

“Like what?” Jane said coldly.

“Like the way those girls are being treated. I know exactly how badly Jane has been treating them and I’m sorry but I can’t stay quiet any longer. Jane has made Martha’s life a living hell, her dream in life appears to be to break up every single relationship, with whomever she doesn’t like. She thinks Martha isn’t up to Jack’s standards, and that Belle’s mother isn’t the nicest person, and that Belle herself is a stuck up little cow, which I know neither of is true! Martha’s an amazing girl whose had a huge uphill battle. And Belle, she’s a fiercely loyal girl who defends Lucas to the ends of the earth. I think you need to leave them alone, they are both battling things and none of you care. May I add, Tony I expected better of you. I expected you to believe what your sons were telling you, not some story that Jane filled your heart with. I’ve been around longer than you think, taking everything in, and I’m sure that Beth and I are the only ones invited to Jack’s birthday. So maybe this will teach you to give your nephews and sons a chance, not to judge them and their wives. Or to judge their disabilities.” She said, glaring at her eldest sister “I used to look up to you all, but now, I’ve never felt more ashamed of any people in my lives. Not even when my daughter’s best friend was involved in a drug scandal did I feel anywhere near as embarrassed as I feel now. I know Martha will never forgive Jane or Joseph, but there’s still a chance for Tony. It’s up to him if he takes that chance.”

---------

“Jack.” Came a voice quietly from the door.

Jack turned, but before his surprise could turn to anger, the person continued.

“I know, I haven’t been a good parent or been there for you but I’d like to say I’m really sorry, and this goes for both you and Luc. I understand if you don’t want to know me, after everything that’s happened, but please give me a chance. I promise I won’t mess up this time.” Kate said, looking at her sons.

Jack watched her, and knew that she’d changed. Something was different, something not the same. She didn’t seem as self centred as she normally was “What changed?” He asked quietly.

“I realised that nothing could ever take away the love that my only two children have. You two will always be a huge part of my heart, and I’d dearly love for you to give me another chance.” She pleaded with him.

“One chance.” Luc said finally, staring at her.

“Same for me.” Jack agreed.

“One chance.” Kate nodded “One chance that won’t be broken.” She said firmly.

NEXT UPDATE: How will Tony react to the news that Kate’s been forgiven by Jack and Lucas? Will they ever talk to their father, or keep up contact with their mother?

Go Erica. She's awesome. And Tony, the nerves that man has to talk to Jack like that  Great chapter though. And the boys are giving Kate another chance, i guess that's good right? They need at least one parent since they're not on speaking terms with Tony. Oh wellz.

More please :)
