Chapter Four

“Alright, so we’ve got the birthday lunch/dinner at Tony’s, entertainment would be Robbie, Luc and you, company would be Ella, Noah and a few of the little kiddies around that Ella and Noah get along with, namely the neighbours.” Martha ticked off everything for Ruby’s birthday two months later. This was her daughter’s first birthday in the Bay and she wanted it to be special.

“How come me and Luc are entertainment?” Jack demanded.

“Because you’re funny to watch, just your face cracks everyone up.” She teased, laughing at her fiancé’s fake hurt expression “I’m sorry baby.” She said, getting up out of her chair and giving him a kiss “Better?” She asked, smiling at him.

“Not quite.” He said, wrapping his arms around her in a tight embrace, beginning to kiss her until –

“DADDY!” Ruby called throughout the house.

Jack groaned; Martha laughed “Go on, Jack, she’s calling you.” She encouraging, pushing him towards the room that their daughter had oh so kindly screamed from. She watched him walk off to the room, and heard his roar of laughter. She hurried off after him, to see what was so funny and was met by the sight of her daughter and fiancé laughing their heads off. Ruby had decorated herself with texta, and Jack had been drawn on in the short time he was there, as soon as he’d entered he’d been attacked by a three year old “Oh my god!” Martha gasped, her sides soon aching as Jack had been turned into a human tree.

“Happy birthday Ruby!” Echoed through the Hunter/Holden household.

Martha smiled, near tears as her baby was becoming a child.

Jack looked at Martha and pulled her close to him, understanding her emotions. He understood that she was upset, a bit, because her daughter was growing up. He kissed the top of her head softly, he also blamed it on the fact that Martha had hormones raging through her body.

Soon the eventful night drew to a close, and suddenly they were greeted by a knock at the door, and there was the builder “Hello, I’m Frank, the builder. Apparently one of the guys who’s associated with that place nextdoor, that I built with me mates, lives here. It’s ready, so I’ve come to drop off the keys.” He said, handing them into Jack’s hand.

Jack looked at Martha, who smiled.

“I guess we have a new home.” She said lightly.

“Yes we do.” Jack said, wrapping his arm around Martha as they walked back to the group “Who wants to see our new house?” Jack called.

Immediately everyone got up and hurried out. The house was pretty perfect, nice looking and everything. Martha hurried in, quickly followed by Jack who was holding a sleepy now four-year-old Ruby.

“You alright?” Martha asked him, as he held Ruby.

“Of course I’m alright. I can hold her.” He assured her.

“Fine.” She said, smiling.

For half an hour they inspected the house, their stuff clothes would have to be moved in but everything else was there.

“I can’t believe this.” Martha said, looking at the room. It was much better than the old house and suited them better, they’d have three bedrooms instead of two, which was a plus and suited them a lot better for when the baby came.

“It’s perfect.” Jack said, smiling at her as he gave her a kiss.

“Finally, we have a place to call home!” Rachel declared. She had grown tired of living with Barry, and Liam was having a hard time. Barry was a hard man to live with 24/7 and they’d been there for about four to five months now, and Barry was very fussy about how the two year old went about his daily jobs “I bet Barry’s relieved.” She said, smiling to Kim.

“He’s happy to have us for longer.” Kim assured her.

“Well we don’t want to be a burden, we’re married with a child now, we don’t need to be baby-sat.” She reminded him.

“Liam does. Dad was happy, we’ve gotten more nights out while at Dad’s then we did ever since we had Liam, we had a built in baby sitter!” He exclaimed.

“I don’t miss the pregnancy.” Rachel admitted with a laugh.

“Will you feel a bit strange, living with Martha, seeing as we just met her basically?” He asked.

“I guess but we’ll survive, Kim. We have so far.” She told him.

“Whenever she’s somewhere we’re away and vice versa, we barely even know our room-mate, whose pregnant with our other room-mates baby.” He pointed out.

“Colleen hates Martha.” Rachel said.

“I was wondering what I did to upset her, do you guys have any ideas?” Martha asked, walking in the door.

“Sorry, didn’t mean-” Rachel started, flustered.

“It’s okay, I know. I don’t mind, from what I heard it isn’t exactly a bad thing to be on her death list.” She said with a laugh.

“It’s not a bad thing. It’s the opposite, actually. It’s an amazingly good thing.” She assured her.

“Yoo-hoo only me!” Came Colleen’s annoying crackle of a voice, it echoed through the halls.

“I’ll go greet her, come Rachel.” Martha invited her, as they headed over “Hello Colleen.” Martha said pleasantly.

“Oh, it’s you.” She said flatly, her voice rather unpleasant “What are you doing here?” She asked rudely.

“She lives here now Colleen.” Rachel reminded her “She and Jack have moved in together, with little Ruby.” Rachel said smiling.

Colleen’s face turned rather unpleasant “I heard from Madge Wilkins they’d moved in together, and that she’s pregnant!” She exclaimed as though Martha wasn’t there.

“Yes, I moved in with Jack and yes, I’m pregnant.” Martha said calmly.

She pulled an awful face at Martha and raced off.

“I guess I must say thanks.” Rachel said with a laugh “You ridded us of Colleen, that in itself deserves a medal.” She said smiling.

“Thanks.” She said.
