Chapter Twelve:

Jack grinned later that night, he hadn’t been able to remove the grin from his face since Martha told him she was expecting again.

“You’ve been happy all night Jack, something good happen?” Tony asked as they both stood getting drinks for them and their partners.

“Just been a great night dad.” He said, getting two juices.

“Alright.” Tony agreed with a shrug, heading back to Beth as Jack headed to Martha.

“Thanks.” She said, taking the drink with a smile. They’d finally gotten out of their slow relationship, it had taken a while but neither wanted to jump straight back into the relationship. They’d seen what had happened three years ago.

“You’re welcome.” Jack said, wrapping his arm around her.

“Someone’s happy.” Martha observed, grinning at him.

“Maybe because I got some good news tonight.” Jack said, holding her tightly.

“Really?” She said.

“My lovely wife told me some amazing news, so I’m thrilled to pieces.” He whispered in her ear.

“Oh. That news.” She said, nodding “Now go be a good dad and watch your daughter in the water with me.” She instructed, grabbing his hand and dragging him toward the water.

“Daddy!” Lillie squealed, rushing out of the water.

“Hey sweetie!” He said, picking her up “Having fun with uncle Luc?” He asked.

“I think she did.” Luc said, laughing.

Jack looked at Martha, sitting on a chair looking tired and headed over to her “Want to head home?” He asked her.

“It’s okay, we can stay you’re having fun.” She assured him.

“We’ll head home. You look really tired.” He said, taking her hand and helping her up.

“Thanks.” She said gratefully, putting her arm around him.

“Guys we’re heading home.” Jack called, waving to everyone as he picked up Lillie.

-------------------------

“Come on sleepy, get up.” Martha said, grinning as she sat on the bed, leaning onto Jack’s chest.

“I had a late night.” Jack mumbled, rubbing his eyes.

“And I didn’t? I’m carrying around another person, unlike you, so get off your backside and come out.” She said, smiling at him as she got off the bed, heading into the main room.

Jack followed a few minutes later, yawning “Why do I have to be awake now?” He asked her, slightly grumpy after being awoken from a nice sleep.

“Did you forget the plans for today?” She asked him, putting her hands on her hips.

“Um. Maybe.” He said, cringing slightly.

“The Holden family is going to the beach all day. Did you happen to forget that in your wise wisdom?” She demanded.

“Oh no, of course not.” He said slowly.

“I knew you’d forgotten!” She accused him, then shrugged “I nearly did too, I was busy thinking about the baby.” She said, smiling at him.

“I can’t believe your pregnant again. That’s just the most amazing news.” Jack said softly, looking at Martha’s stomach.

“My stomach is still flat but it won’t be for much longer.” She said, grinning at him “In around three to four months, my stomach will slowly begin expanding quite rapidly.” She said, looking down at her stomach.

“Well, that’s a good thing. It means the baby is growing.” He pointed out to her.

“I know, there’s nothing wrong with it.” She assured him “I love it. Pregnancy treated me well with Lillie and hopefully it will again.”

“I wish I had of been there when you were pregnant with Lillie.” Jack said seriously.

“I wish you had of been too, Jack, but I didn’t know.” She said, sitting on a chair.

“It’s alright. I’m here now and that’s all that matters.” Jack assured her.

--------------------------------------

Three months later at the Holden/Hunter house:

“Congratulations!” Tony said, thrilled at the news of being a grandfather a second time.

“Thanks.” Martha said, smiling at him.

“So how’s the morning sickness been?” Beth asked her.

“Pretty good, not too much.” She said, picking up Lillie.

“You’re only just starting to show, which is pretty good.” Beth said to her.

“Rachel’s nearly ready to have her baby and I’m four months pregnant. Two pregnant women in the one house aren’t always the best mix.” Martha said, grinning at Jack.

“And we know it. Kim and I have learnt to just shut up and take whatever comes, if we want to be alive at the end of the day.” Jack said, looking at Martha.

“He has.” Martha agreed “There have been bad days, where we both get irritated with them and start a screaming match. They are smart enough to shut up and listen though.”

“We have brains, Martha. We know we will both be being seen in the doghouse if we don’t.” Jack pointed out.

Tony grinned at the couple’s talk “Sounds like you two are pretty strong.” Tony commented.

“We are.” Jack confirmed.
