Chapter 43

“Let me get close to Sam”

“Why?”

“She targeted Martha because I went back to Martha, so really shes targeting me”

“So what do you suggest?”

“Swapping me for Martha”

“Why?”

“Martha doesn’t deserve this”

“Neither do you”

“Im too involved in it anyway”

A cold voice came from the doorway “What is going on here?”

Jack found the voice very familiar and turned around to see who it was…

Unused Warehouse

Sam had taped Martha to a gas pipe in front of her,keeping Martha in sight at all times and preventing her from escaping.

Martha sat there sapped of all her energy by trying to escape, Sam kept on talking about a man of her worst nightmare, but she couldn’t place who the hell she was on about.

A man walked in the room and Sam said to him “You have to do something to hurry it along”

“Why?”

“They are getting close”

“Do you trust me” as he cocked his head

“Yes you know I do” as she snuggled up to him.

“Well then, Il sort it out”

Martha couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw him in front of her, “Long time no see Martha”

“What are you doing here?”

“Getting you back”

“I will never get back with you”

“Really?”

“yes!”

“I wouldn’t be too sure about that” “Sam, bring him out”

“Ok”

Sam went to bring Leo out, as she brought him out, Adam told Martha “Either you sleep with me or he dies”

Sam opened his coat to reveal C4 that was wired to him as she held out her hand which held the deadly switch.

Leo cried out “Don’t!”

Leo was 13 years old and matured into a sensible person even if Sam had raised him up

Martha had no idea what to do as the phone began to ring, it was Jack, but Martha was unaware of this as she told Sam and Adam her decision.

Chapter 44

“Pick the phone up” Jack said frustrated

“Jack she will answer when she is good and ready”

“In the meantime Martha is in danger”

“She wants you remember so Martha is ok”

“Yeh I know you are right”

Peter was watching Jack as tears were streaming down his face as he contemplated life without Martha and Peter realised that Jack even though he wouldn’t admit he still loved her as he did when he first realised who she was on the night after the party where Martha lost him temper with him.

One hour before

“I will sleep with you” as she resigned her to the fact that was the only way Leo would survive. Leo on the other hand wasn’t happy as he shouted “ No mum don’t”

Hearing Leo say the word mum made Martha all the more determined to save his life and not back down from sleeping with Adam.

“Sam shut him up, me and Martha are going to sleep together” he smirked as Martha cringed. She couldn’t believe that she at one time loved him as much as she loved Jack but didn’t admit to him before he left for America because she was scared of how deep her feelings went and how much she longed to be Mrs Martha Holden.

Adam untied Martha and led her up a stairway to a room where a king size bed was all set up. He laid himself on the bed and forced Martha on top of him.

He stroked her hair before kissing her on the cheeks and as he did that Martha thought of how much she longed it to be Jack she was with.

Martha thoughts

You know I'd fight for you but how could I fight someone who isn't even there. I've had the rest of you now I want the best of you I don't care if that's not fair

She didn’t know how to have Jack and Maria as she didn’t know if she could look after Maria as well.

The phone rang making Jack jump but he picked himself up and got his mind in control as Jack picked the phone up. The voice at the other end made him jump saying “Either I get 50 grand or Martha and Leo dies”

“Put Sam on the phone” Jack said not knowing who he was talking to. Adam mulled it over and put her on the phone.

“Sam let me take Martha’s place, please? Its me you want”

“You have a choice. Leo or Martha.

“I choose to swop my self for...”

Okies as I told Elaine as of next week I will have no net access which means that I have no idea when I am back meaning no updates. I dont know when I will be back online or if I will be on in the next few weeks.

Chapter 45

“Leo” he said finally

“Ok” then hung up the phone

Jack rang Tony and Lucas and told them about Leo and how he needed them to look after Leo while he saved Martha who he really did love.

“Just make you look after yourself” Lucas said to him

“I will” but knowing he may not come out of this alive

“Good wills pass you onto Dad”

“Jack please be careful”

“I will try”

“Another thing”

“What Dad?”

“Make sure you tell Martha you love her”

“But...”

“No I mean it i know you love her and Leo’s return will help you fix the wedge you have made between you and Martha”

“Ok”

“Take care dad”

“Take care son”

Jack hung up the phone and got himself ready to go to the exchange point. He reached the exchange point and as he did, he told his dad to tell Leo that he loved him.

“You can tell yourself”

“Just do it dad please?”

“Ok” not happy with him though

Jack heard his phone ring and he picked it up “Go to the bridge and look out for a white van”

“Then walk up to it and cough when you are within 2 minutes of the van and Leo will be released”

“Ok”

“Good” then he hung up

He walked to the bridge and as he did a white van came into view. He walked up to the van and coughed. Leo was pushed out and as he was he signalled to Jack a stabbing motion. Jack nodded before saying “I love you”

“Me too Dad”

He walked into the van and was met by Adam

“Long time no see Jack”

“Adam” he said coldly

He was taken to a cold house south of Tasmania and before Jack let himself be dragged in. He thought ‘I really need to get Martha out safe, then worry out about myself’

Chapter 46

Jack was sat in the room while Martha was looking anywhere but at him He willed her to look at her ‘please look at me’

Martha ended up falling asleep as darkness fell on summer bay as snow fell on the timid town of summer bay, Christmas was fast approaching.

Leo was in Tony flat feeling a bit out of place. He wouldn’t talk to anyone at all since he saw his dad for what he feared to be the last time.

“Hey” tony walked in

He smiled before going to his bedroom.

Martha woke up to find that Jack wasn’t there, she immediately shouted out jacks name as it resounded all around,

“he’ll be back”

"what have you done with him?"

"Nothing"

"You hate him"

"No I don’t I hate you for loving him"

"He loved me too"

Jack was listening and when he heard Martha say “I loved him”

Sam dragged Jack back in and she said “you loved him past tense! The sad thing is that he loves you still”

Martha looked up as he looked back with his soulful puppy dog eyes.

“You set me up”

“Now you have a choice Jack”

“Which Is?”

“Shoot Martha or yourself”

He aimed the trigger at her head and pulled it. The bullet hit in the chest and she staggered backwards. Once she had felt the impact of the bullet. She died

Chapter 47

“Why did you have to do that” he muttered to himself like a deranged lunatic as he kept on repeating it again and again.

“She deserves it” Jack retorted

“Did she!” he shouted as he pointed his gun at Martha’s head

“Listen, let Martha go, it’s me you really want”

He wasn’t about to let Martha get hurt for his stupid mistake, especially not when she had Leo to look after when she got out of here

“I cant, I cant he’ll kill me”

“Who will?”

“He will”

“Whos he?”

“My boss”

“Adam tell me who please?” Martha asked trying to get him onside

He gulped and said “Cam Reynolds”

Lucas knocked on the door and Leo opened it. Lucas was holding Maria.

“Whos this vision of beauty?” Leo asked as he picked her up and began to tickle her.

“Your half sister”

“Oh so she’s dad’s daughter?”

“Yeah mate, Can you look after her while I go check on everything?”

“Ok I will”

“Maria, stay with Leo”

“I will” by this time she was playing with the sofa and throwing the cushions all around.

Jack didn’t have any idea who Cam Reynolds was but Martha was quaking with fear when she heard that name.

“Untie her” came Cams voice

Martha rubbed her hands where the ropes had made a dent and Jack had edged a bit closer to her to protect her if he had to. He realised how much he loved her and wasn’t about to let her go without a fight, he didn’t have much to fight for as Cam said to Adam “Escort Martha out, I only want Jack” Adam didn’t move at first but Cam raised his voice “Now!”

Adam escorted Martha from the building and left her in the cold trembling from the kiss Jack had given to her and she was battling her emotions.

She walked to the nearest phone box when she spotted a car and waved it down to her.

“Summer Bay please”

“Ok love jump in”

“What’s your name?”

“Martha”

“Surname?”

“Mackenzie” she said but she secretly wanted to be Martha Holden

Adam walked back in and felt very uneasy

“Jack. Let me think what am I going to do with you a demonstration of her dancing moves.”

“You bastard!”

“I have always been a bastard but as long as I get what I want then I will leave you alone”

“I need 15 grand”

“I don’t have that money”

“Then you don’t get out”

Jack looked down and he heard a dull thud before looking up to see Martha hitting Cam with a metal tube.

Jack jumped up and restrained Martha “Stop it”

“What are you doing here?

“I couldn’t leave you”

“Why?”

“The honest truth?”

“Yes”

“Can we try again?”

“Yeah as soon as we get out of here”

Jack took Martha’s hand and they ran for the exit and got out successfully.

They saw Peter arresting Cam and Adam

“How did they know?”

“I told them”

“I bet” as he laughed and hugged her

They saw Lucas approach and say “I am glad you have seen sense and taken him back Martha” grinning

“Where’s Maria?”

“With Leo”

“At your flat”

“No dads”

“I will go and see them now”

“Ok and I get to see Maria for the first time” feeling a bit nervous

They walked to Tony flat and they peeked in the door and they watched Leo sit with Maria reading a book.

“Leo?”

“Yeh Maria?”

“Will I come and live with you now?”

“Maybe, do you want to?”

“Yes, I want to live with you, Dad and the woman that Dad talks about a lot”

“Whos that”

“He kept saying she was his love of his life”

“Did he say a name?”

“Yes Martha”

Martha smiled and Jack grinned.

“Hey Leo” Martha smiled

“Mum!”

He ran towards her and hugged as he loved her, his dad and even cocky little Maria

“hey Maria”

“Daddy”

“Your wish will come true; I want all four of us to live together like a family”

“Me too” Leo said

They looked at Maria and Martha “What do you say Maria?”

“Ok as long as you are my mummy”

“I will be”

“Ok then”

The Holden family sat down and watched TV knowing that they were stronger than ever. Leo and Maria were happy to have parents who cared about them. Jack and Martha love was stronger than it had ever been.
