Ugh i can imagine Mike and whenever you write about him or describe him touching Martha it makes my skin crawl! What a sleaze! lol Poor Martha she really needs to get out of that club! Hopefully Jack will get taken to the club and spy her and rescue her but something tells me its not going to be plain sailing like that! lol Well great update Nicole, can't wait for the next! :)

Chapter 3 – 2 weeks later.

Fitzy and the other cops jumped up, looking over at Jack with hope and withheld smiles. This all changed though as Jack strolled in, his hands in his pockets and a frown plastered on his face. He sat down on the chair with a sigh.

Lara, Davie and Alex looked uneasily at each other, slowly moving around Jack to comfort him.

Lara was the first to speak. “I’m so sorry Jack. I honestly thought you’d be coming back.” She said, crouching next to the chair and resting her hand on his.

Jack made no movement; he just continued to stare at the floor.

“Maybe in a few weeks, mate.” Alex sighed, “McGrath won’t want to keep you away any longer than he has to.”

Jack looked up at them all, shrugging his shoulders.

“I’m just worried about who my new partner is. I don’t want Davie.” He said with a smirk, watching as the others slowly clicked on; everyone but Davie.

“Hey!” He objected.

The others roared with laughter, patting Jack on the back and giving an occasional “Holden’s back!” chant.

“So this means we’re going out after work then?” Davie asked the others once they had quietened down.

“Looks that way, we’ve got some celebrating to do with Jacky boy!” Alex grinned, putting his arm around Jack’s shoulders.

Jack looked at them all curiously.

“Why are we going out? When was this organized?” He asked.

“Today. We thought we’d go for a little ‘Welcome Back’ drink tonight. In your honour.” Alex smiled up at him.

“Sounds good.” Jack grinned, “Who’s going?”

“Just us guys. Unless you want to invite McGrath.” Alex teased.

Jack laughed, pushing his shoulder. “Hell no! Besides, it’ll be fun with us 4 again. Just like the old days…”

“You mean a few months ago?” Lara snorted, “And please; count me out.” She said, walking behind the reception desk.

Jack frowned, standing up and following her. “Why not?”

Lara looked to Alex, then to Jack. “Because… I have girl things to do. Like paint my nails and wash my hair.” She smiled.

Jack laughed, “Sure you do...” He muttered, turning around to the hand on his shoulder.

“It’s a lads night anyway. We don’t want a sissy girl spoiling our fun. How is Davie supposed to pull when Lara is with us?” He asked.

“I don’t think Lara’s the problem.” Jack joked, offending Davie again.

“Are you coming or not?” He asked impatiently.

Jack smiled, nodding to his two friends. “Alright then, I’m going.” He said, moving to his desk. He paused for a second, turning around to them both with curiosity. “Where are we going?” He asked.

Alex and Davie smirked to each other, “Oh, just on a usual pub crawl.” Alex answered.

Lara rolled her eyes, sighing loudly as she shook her head to the desk.

Martha sat at the bar with Hannah, relaxing with a drink before another hectic night began. It was her third week now at the job, and she was really settling in. Her and Mike were still going great, and Hannah and the other girls were beginning to warm to her. Of course, they still gave her the odd bitchy comments; but Martha had learnt to accept it by now, and not take them to heart.

“I’m glad it’s going well with Mike for you,” Hannah smiled, serving Martha her shot.

Martha looked down at the tequila in front of her. “We’re working in 10 minutes.”

Hannah gave a sarcastic gasp, “Really?! Just drink it. It helps.” She assured her.

Martha sighed, picking up the small glass and putting it to her lips. She threw it down her throat, squeezing her eyes shut as she felt the burning sensation. She rested the tequila back down on the bar.

“Another?” Hannah offered, lifting the bottle up in front of Martha.

She began to decline, but soon realised that her objections meant nothing; Hannah was pouring her a second shot.

Hannah grinned at Martha, watching as she drank the next.

“You’ll thank me for it later,” she promised her, “you’ll wonder why you’ve never done it before. Two shots before a shift makes you a hell of a lot more comfortable, and it’ll cure that stage fright of yours. And the embarrassment.” She said.

“I’m not embarrassed, and I’m not afraid of the stage.” Martha denied quickly.

Hannah laughed, “You so are. You’re ashamed of working here. I’ve noticed, and so have the other girls. You better up your game before they start voicing their thoughts to Claira.” She told Martha sternly.

Martha paused, biting her lip. Claira was the head girl; she was in control of the staff. Technically she didn’t have the power to fire any of the girls, but she did have the power to humiliate. All the girls tried to stay on the good side of Claira.

She sighed, smiling at Hannah. “Thanks, I’ll keep it in mind.” She said, standing up from the stool and looking down at her uniform. Or lack of, should she say.

She gave a sigh before she turned to her left, heading to the loo.

Hannah smiled to herself, clearing the bar with a damp cloth. She looked up to see Mike, who was stood at the other end of the club staring at her. She gave him a small wave, before looking over at the toilet door; thinking of Martha. Even though she was sleeping with Martha’s boyfriend; she didn’t feel guilty. They were all the same at the club. No one had morals, no one felt guilt. That was the beauty of it.

Jack stepped out of the taxi, looking at the building in front.

“No.” He said, turning around to his grinning friends. “No.” He repeated, shaking his head as he looked back up at the name of the club in lights.

Alex and Davie laughed, pushing Jack up closer to the doors.

“Don’t be a girl,” Davie said, “You’re a guy. Us guys are supposed to go in here.” He told him.

Jack turned to him. “Have you ever been in here before?” He asked.

Davie stuttered, looking to the floor. “N..no.” He muttered. “Actually, maybe Jack’s right. Maybe we shouldn’t go in here; after all we are police officers and…”

Alex groaned, rolling his eyes as he dragged Jack and Davie in front of him. “And what? Just because we’re police officers doesn’t mean we can’t do what other guys do. Come on. Embrace in the fun! Get off your boring asses and go in there! Unless you’d rather go home to your family and watch the tele?” He said sternly.

Jack and Davie looked at each other, letting out a sigh.

“Fine.” Jack gave in, “but for the record, this wasn’t my idea.” He said, walking into the club with his two colleagues.
