Chapter 19

Drew slowly lifted his head looking over at the gun about 1 metre away; he turned to face the other way looking at Clare who wasn’t moving. Drew picked himself up of the ground as he caught sight of the man who held the gun to his head running down the road.

“Clare?” Drew said worryingly as he turned her body over, as he turned her over he saw the blood dripping from his hands, “Clare stay with me I’m going to get help.”

Drew frantically grabbed his mobile from his pocket dialling 000 “I need a ambulance now She’s been shot” Drew yelled down the phone.

Drew quickly pulled his top off as he began to put pressure on Clare gunshot wound.

Drew kept his right firmly pressed onto the gunshot wound. “Please Clare don’t leave me now, dad needs you” Drew said firmly as he looked at Clare.

Clare’s eyes slowly began to open, “Drew” Clare muttered softly in a great deal of pain.

“Yes I’m here but Clare keep talking to me just keep talking”, Drew said to Clare still putting pressure on her stomach. “Where’s Pete? Drew tell him….” Drew quickly cut her off.

“You can tell him when you see him” Drew shot at her trying to hold back his tears.

Drew picked up his mobile ringing 000 again, “Where is the ambulance, she is loosing blood and keeps closing her eyes” Drew yelled.

“Drew?” a voice shouted from behind him and Clare, Drew turned his head as he saw Sally running over. “What’s going…” Sally stopped in shock noticing the blooding all over Drews hand.

“She’s… she’s been shot” Drew said as he looked towards Clare’s chest. Sally immediately took her jacket and placed it on top of Drew shirt, which was trying to stop the bleeding.

About a minute had passed until the ambulance arrived racing over to treat Clare’s gunshot wounds. Drew and Sally stood back helpless as they couldn’t do anything but watch the paramedics put Clare on a stretcher then into the ambulance.

Drew and Sally sat waiting in the hospital, Peter ran down the corridor towards them, “Where is she?” he demanded to know. Sally looked over at him, “She’s in theatre Pete!”

Peter immediately looked at drew “Are you ok?” he asked as he sat next to his son, “Dad watching Clare on the road like that, I just didn’t know what to do… I got up and saw her bleeding. I was so scared” Pete pulled Drew into his arms.

Rachael walked towards them with a worried look on her face, “Rachael when can I see her?” Peter asked as he jumped up off his seat. “Peter she is still in theatre I am going up now to be in theatre with Dr, Young, I will let you know as soon as I know more” Rachael said walking up to theatre.

“Dad who is Dennis Gillan?” Drew asked Pete who suddenly turned his head, “What he is no one” Peter replied lying through his teeth.

Drew got up and grabbed his dads arm walking into a hospital room leaving Sally confused outside.

“Dad don’t lie to me I know you know him because he certainly knows you” Drew shot at his father.

Peter started to become agitated and tried to avoid eye contact with Drew until he suddenly stopped, “Dennis Gillan done this to Clare”

“Yes ” Drew replied. Peter looked at Drew before trying to leave the room but was stopped by Drew as he said “dad your not going anywhere until you tell me what the hell is going on, Clare was shot today because of this Dennis guy and I want to know why he tried to kill me as well”

“Dad just tell me,” Drew said shouting at his dad.

“Clare has been shot because of me…. Because of me Drew.”

“Dad you need to tell me what is going on!”

“Drew tell me what exactly happened before Clare got shot”

Drew looked over at his dad as he began to explain, “We were on the beach when Clare told me about Dan’s accident”

Peter suddenly raised his head, “She told you?”.

“Yes she told me she was the last person to see him and how they fought before Dan died, I couldn’t believe what she told me. I was so angry I walked away down the beach, running from her well that was until I fell into someone. I was being held at gunpoint. I didn’t know what the hell was going on… until Clare tried to stop this man. Dad she saved my life she tried to get the gun. There was a struggle and the gun went off”

“How did you know about Dennis?” Peter asked.

“He was asking for you, he wanted to know where you was and that’s when he said the name Dennis Gillan. Clare recognised the name and tried to tell him that I didn’t know where you was but he wasn’t having any of it,” Drew told his dad.

“I have to go” Peter said heading for the door once again but was stopped by Drew, “Dad look at me… Clare she saved my life”. Peter gave Drew a blank look not knowing what to say, they were interrupted by a knock on the door.

Rachael entered the room, “Peter she is out of surgery”, Peter face lit up as he sighed with relief, “Drew I want to see Clare we will talk about this later”

Peter took a deep breath as he entered the recovery room, he slowly walked towards Clare’s bedside looking at how she laid hooked up to all the machines, the more he looked at Clare the more he could remember Dan lying in the same place when he died. He couldn’t bear to stay in the room, “I’m sorry” Peter said before racing out of the room.

Drew entered Clare’s room looking for Peter but he was no where to be seen he looked over at Leah who stood watching on by the door of the hospital room, “Leah”

All of a sudden Leah burst into tears running towards Drew, Drew held Leah in his arms as she cried.

Drew felt like he had been struck by lightening, he was holding Dan’s wife in his arms while he knew that Clare was partly responsible for his uncle’s death. Drew slowly pulled away from holding Leah as he said, “Leah there is something important I have to tell you”

Great chapter. I thought it would be Clare who got shot. It's a bit ironic, Clare annoyed Dan so he ran off i.e. it being her fault and now Clare is in pain and it's Pete's fault.

Pete didn't quite know what to make of Gillian being back, i wonder will happen there?

Maybe, Drew is telling Leah that Clare was the last person to see Dan?

I swear, Aaron, you just got me confused. I swear, this ring composition of effects is really starting to get confusing.

Poor Clare.... Poor Drew.... Poor Pete.... Poor Leah.... [did I forget anyone? If I did, then, poor you, too. ]

That was intense. It's pretty obvious that Drew will most probably tell Leah about Clare being the last to see Dan. And, then, a third round of WWIII will break loose.

And Pete not knowing what to do is so unlike him.... Ah well... Not complaining... More drama the better.
