Great chapter, I'm glad to know how Jack got himself into this mission. It seems pretty dangerous and I actually feel sorry for him having to lie to his family like that and be away from martha... Jack obviously doesn't realise that absence does make the heart grow fonder :P

third chapter up, enjoy!

Chapter 3

The stench of cigarettes and beer hung heavily in the air. The walls were deep red, the lights dark, giving the club classy, almost respectable look. Almost. Cautiously, Jack looked around. So this was where he was to be stationed for the next…however long it took for the mission to be completed. It was clear to him, looking the sleek bar, shiny tables and small crowds of people, that someone had put a lot of effort in to raising this club. And he was going to be the one who brought it down.

“Matt Sanderson!”

Jack, shook his head, willing himself to concentrate ‘Focus on the job; this could be the break we’re looking for’

He smiled casually at the man standing before him, short, slightly stocky and bald, this was he assumed the man he would be working for

“So…are you my boss?” he asked, shaking the man’s hand

“I wish I was” The other man shook his head chuckling “That guy’s got everything you could wish for. Nah, I’m Stewart McArthur, second in charge of this place.”

Jack nodded “So how do you know-?“

McArthur shrugged “Your name? Easy, everyone who comes to work here gets profiled on. That way, we know exactly who were getting and there’s no problem. We do this to stay in business and it’s the easiest way to tell if we’re getting some undercover bozo or what not.”

Jack laughed along side McArthur comment, inside shivering at how close he was to the truth. If they really about him they would kill him for sure, for all the information he knew and was to obtain.

“So where’s the boss?” he asked glancing around.

“Don’t thinks he’s here yet; think he had an errand to run for his girlfriend.” Mc Arthur replied, motioning for Jack to follow.

He lead Jack past the bar, winking at one of the girls working “You on tonight, Lissa?” he called

Lissa rolled her eyes, “You wish I was, don’t you McArthur? Will you be saying that when you see Sarah on stage?”

Mc Arthur merely grinned, looking her up and down “Well…”

She shook her head at him and on they walked, where for the first time Jack noticed the stage situated in the middle of the club.

“Is that-?” he asked

“You bet it is” McArthur replied, nudging Jack in the ribs “Bet you’re gonna enjoy watching aren’t, ya?”

“Yeah” he answered, grinning, “I bet I am-”

“-Well tough” McArthur cut across, his voice hardening for the first time “You’re not here to watch, or enjoy yourself. This isn’t supposed to be fun-“

“I never-”

“-What we say, you do” McArthur continued, leading up a flight of stairs. “You are to be on time for all the errands we send you on. You don’t ask stupid questions, or mess around. You are here to work, lest you forget it. Like I say to everyone this isn’t a game. All of us are trying to make a living, and the boss is just trying to run a business. Got it?”

he added, a warning glint in his eye”

“Got it”

‘So this is how things work’ from what Jack could see so far, this was going to be very from his previous work. His former boss had said that they had needed a drug supplier. But what McArthur wanted was someone to sell the drugs, from him to the buyer. At least that way, if he was caught, he could take the fall, be the scapegoat. It would only b his word against the club’s…if he wanted to talk. He was finally beginning to understand exactly why, it was so hard to bring these people down.

McArthur knocked twice on the door. No answer.

“Guess he’s not here” he said, gesturing for Jack to sit down “We’ll just have to wait-“

He was interrupted by heavy footsteps sounding on the stairs. A few moments later, a man around his early appeared, and seeing the two visitors, hurried towards them.

“Stewart, how ya doin?” he greeted them “and you must be the new bloke, Matt Sanderson, isn’t it?”

Jack nodded feeling a chill up his spine as he shook the man’s hand. In his mind, there was no need to be introduced to the man before him. He had already spent a month looking at his picture, studying everything there was to know about him. He was one of the top drug dealers known to the police squad. For months, they had been trying arrest him on counts of suspected drug possession, dealings and, another chill went through him, murder. This was-

“Cam Reynolds,” the man introduced himself “Good to finally meet you. Stewart’s told you everything you need to know, I can see that-”

He paused glancing at McArthur “except he hasn’t told you when your dealing off will be. You will meet with our contact at eight tonight, at the look out at Gerry Beach. He’ll hand you a duffel bag, you give him the money, come back here and drop the bag at my office. The door will be open, so don’t look for me”

Footsteps sounded below on the stairs, causing Cam to stop. “If there’s nothing else you need to know, well, I guess welcome to the club”

He turned away, preparing to leave when he caught sight of the figure below on the stairs. “Actually, there’s someone I’d like you to meet “ Turning around, he smiled at Jack motioning for him to follow. “I think you two will get on very well”

Jack followed him down the stairs, thinking that maybe it was another of Reynolds goons. Mentally he ran a list of them through his head ‘Parkinson, Wells, Abbot-' he stopped, unprepared for what he saw next. There, leaning against the wall next to Cam and McArthur, was Martha.
