Five Wins Neighbours!

I'm quite surprised, I was really expecting ITV to win the race. I have to admit I'm a bit wary - I liked Five being Home and Away's channel, but now with both the soaps on there, I worry that Home and Away is going to fall into the backdrop. No doubt there'll be heavy promotion for Neighbours before it starts airing on Five and I worry that Home and Away will become second place to Neighbours :(.

I'm probably just being paranoid, and at the end of the day, as long as Home and Away remains where it is, with the Five Life exclusives etc, I'm happy :).

So for the first time ever Neighbours will have adverts halfway in the show.

I wonder if channel five will move home and away to 6.30pm and put Neighbours to 6.00pm cause if they do it the other way there will be more viewers watching home and away on five life than Neighbours.

I wonder whether fans (people who don’t understand how ratings and biddings go) will think that the BBC axed it and Five took it on...it will probably coincide with the 'new look' etc and people might presume the producers of the show and everything have changed.

I've thought that about H&A when it moved from the ITV to Five, there was a drop in ratings I understand.

^^ Well, I've read somewhere else on the board that Seven had mentioned it in their news bulletin (news must've been slow that day) and it sounded like they were saying that Neighbours had been axed.

There was a drop in rating for h and a for 2 reasons:- a) ITV insisted FIVE could not show any episodes for 12 months after it had finished on ITV.... and b) Its on FIVE...which was, and is still, not available to every household in the UK.

I think that if there is no gap between the ending of Neighbours on the BBC..or at least one of less than 3/4 months..then loyal fans will move to FIVE to watch it..its an institution....especially if they manage to keep it in the identical time slot. It will also have a knock on effect for H and A and people who used to watch both will do so again. :D

I think BBC's contract with Fremantle Media (the producers of Neighbours) runs out next year and there're been a bidding war between ITV and Five for the rights as it seems likely that BBC is refusing to meet the price tag.

Then if Neighbours does move to Five, there will be huge stuff coming out as they've got two Australian soaps - how to sort out the times to show both and that's what the forum regulars been talking about.

Hopefully this helps (I'm awful at explaining things lol! BTW, your avatar is brilliant!)

Hey Sorry for the late reply! But thank you that does help allot. I can sorta understand it better!? why fight over a programe? Its really daft!! its just a TV SHOW!! although this would be great if they showed this on Five!!

xx

But why do the programes cost so much!?!! ]

ta for the comment about my avatar yours is lovely!

Is Neighbours really worth THAT much though, The last episode I saw had Lou in a 'Jason X' mask, cliche scenario's involving evil schemes with Paul and Elle and a recycled explosion from an earlier blast (yes really!)
