Great chapter.

I liked that Mark made it up to Jen and chose to be with her, instead of Jen coming up to him.

Interesting you should mention that since I was planning on Jen coming up to him, Im having problems with this story, is everything making sense? it is in my head but you guys aren't in there (lucky for you).

thanks for you comment too, I love them.

thanks :) im glad it made sense

this update is to warn against the over use of drugs

Mark entered the house to the sound of a game of some kind on the T.V.

“You little beauty” Dad yelled at the T.V, Tom stagger out of the kitchen with a bowl of chips, coming to unsteady halt he smiled stupidly at Mark.

“You’re home”

“Your powers of observation amazes me”

Tom frowned slightly processing the comment before smiling again.

“Come watch the game”

“No thanks”

“Aww, why not?”

“I don’t feel like it”

“I’m only here today, I want to see as much of my family as I can”

“Maybe later” Mark said, trying to walk down the hallway to the stairs, Tom darted in front of him blocking the way. His stupid “I’m drunk” face was replaced by “Serious older brother” face.

“Are you okay, you seem less, you?”

“I’m fine, I promise”

“Tom get back, those bloody kiwis are beating our team” dad exclaimed from the lounge. Tom gave a worried glance at Mark before heading back to the lounge.

Julie stuck her head out of the kitchen doorway.

“Mark can you come help with dinner. I need a hand”

“Fine” he mumbled, rubbing his head as another headache came over him.

“Dad” Tom said over the adds during half time.

“Yeah”

“I want to talk about Mark”

Dominic narrowed his eyes and looked over to Tom “why?”

“Its just, he’s seems different..”

“Its been three odd years since you last saw him”

“I know, but still. Maybe he’s having trouble at school, you said he got in a fight with some guy at school”

Dominic grabbed a handful of chips “He’s just acting out for attention” he said simply, shoving the chips down his throat and turning the volume up to signal the end of the conversation.

Mark rubbed his forehead, wiping away the sweat that was a cumulating there, Julie looked up from her work, frowning she glazed over at him.

“What’s wrong”

“Nothing, just a headache”

“There’s painkillers in the cupboard”

“Yeah” He opened the cupboard and grabbed a packet of painkillers, downing two of them the headache suddenly got worse and he felt his body tremble. He grabbed the table top to support himself and wiped away the sweat from his forehead. Julie rushed over to him.

“What’s wrong”

He felt numb and cold, without in resistant he let himself fall into the darkness of nothingness.

‘There’s no such thing as nothing” Not Jen said

“Then what do you call this?”

Not Jen bit her bottom lip and looked around at the blackness, a small smile played across her lips.

“Blackness”

“Its black because its nothing”

“Its black because its black”

Julie knelt down the felt Mark pulse, there was hardly one. She didn’t realize she was screaming till Tom and Dominic ran into the room. Tom knelt next to her and Mark.

“What’s wrong”

“I don’t know”

“Dad call the ambulance” Tom yelled.

Im trying to get an update ready but I have two very different ideas on where to take this story, depending on what music Im listening to as Im writing.

Only thing worse than writers block is too much ideas...

Incase you didn't noticed I struggled with this chapter, so here is the end result. It's not the best, however I don't feel its that bad either.

Julie sat quietly in the waiting room, her pale skin almost shone under the bright lighting of the hospital. Next to her sat Dominic, he had his head resting on his hand which were perched on his lap. Tom paced the waiting room floor, it was eerily quiet with no-one else around, like a ghost room.

The door flew open and in walked Jen, she long blonde hair flowing behind her.

“Who are you?” Dominic’s loud voice boomed over the room, Jen looked over to him, then Tom.

“How’s Mark?”

Dominic stood up “I asked you a question!”

Jen pursed her lips and rolled her eyes “I’m Mark friend, hence why I am here. Why else would I be here, for the food?.” She turned to face Tom again “Now’s Mark? What’s wrong?”

Tom bowed his head “We don’t know yet”

“Oh, I see”

Dominic folded his arms and glared at Jen. “I want a name” he demanded.

Jen frowned at him, looking him up and down “That’s strange, I was given a name at birth”.

Tom stepped forward “This is Jen, dad”

“Oh he wanted my name”

“duh”

“I’m a blond, get over it”.

Rachel entered the room, she walked over to where the family and Jen stood waiting.

A bottle of cheap wine littered Julie hand, Tom stood up.

“Is he okay?”

She bit her lower lip “We think he’s passed the worse of it, he’ll need to stay in for at least another two nights”

Jen yawned and looked around, hopping to her feet “Is he okay? What was wrong?”

Rachel looked down at her chart, then back up at the waiting family.

“He had a near fatal overdose”

Tom stood shell shock, his mouth hanging open, while Julie took a big gulp of her wine. Dominic and Jen just stood there quietly.

“But why?” Tom stuttered, still in shock.

“We don’t know”

Dominic shook his head, reaching in his pocket he pulled out a cigarette and walked out of the room, Rachel seized her chance.

“Tom, would you mind coming with me for a moment?”

He nodded quietly and followed Rachel out of the room.

Jen turned to face Julie.

“You call yourself a mother”

“Excuse me?”

“Instead of doing something useful, your drowning your sorrows in a bottle. But then that’s the only thing you can do right?”

“I don’t need to take this”

“No, you don’t need to take this” Jen argued, waving an empty wine bottle in her face, Julie got up and walked out the door.

Rachel frowned deeply at she watched Tom’s facial expressions closely.

“Tom, I know you may not want to hear this but I think that your dad may be hitting Mark”

A look of shock cross his face, then follow by anger, his fist clenched and he eyes narrowed. “How dare you say, Dad would never hurt us, he loves us both!”

“Tom, Mark’s body was cover in bruises..”

“So what, he’s been in fights at school..”

“And various broken bones..”

“That’s what your basing this on!” he yelled “Mark told me all about them, he broke them climb up things he shouldn’t of and jump off things and other accidents, were do you people get off accusing people of child abuse and wrecking families, do you get more money for every life you wreck” Tom’s pager beeped, grabbing it, he glance back up at her “I have to go, tell Mark to call me when he’s better” with out looking back Tom pushed his way out of the hospital.
