Hey I've been away for a week so I missed it. It's nice to read it all in one go though! Still great, so dramatic. Great that Amy and Ava are happy. You better let Noah be ok!

I'm back!!! Holiday was heaps of fun, wish I could go live there... Lol. Well here's the next part!

PART 34

Paul immediately wakes up when Noah stirs, running to his bed.

“Noah? Can you hear me?”

“Dad?”

“Yeah, it’s me. Sweetie, are you okay?”

“Daddy, why is it so dark?”

Paul sighs, relieved.

“It’s late, Noah. I’m so glad you’re awake.”

“Daddy… there was a fire… and Fairy Kate carried me… and then the Giant Man was there… What happened?”

“You got out of there, Noah. Everything is okay.”

“I’m scared, daddy!”

Paul strokes over Noah’s head.

“There’s nothing to be scared of.”

“Is mommy here?”

“Yeah. She’s asleep, let me just wake her up.”

Paul walks to Jodi’s sleeping figure.

“Jodz… Noah is awake.”

Jodi immediately sits up straight and rushes to Noah’s bed.

“Noah!”

“Mom!”

He holds out his hands and she grabs onto them, tears streaming down her cheeks.

“You’re all right! I was so scared!”

Paul switches on the light and looks at Noah with a grin.

“Should I call a doctor?”

Jodi nods and Paul rushes out. Noah frowns.

“Mommy, can you turn on the light please? The darkness is scaring me.”

Jodi frowns.

“But…”

Her face goes pale when his words register and she walks backwards to the door slowly.

“Noah… I’ll be right back…”

She meets Paul and the doctor in the hall, her eyes wide in shock.

“Noah can’t see… The light is on, but he says it’s still dark… He’s blind… My child is blind…”

“Carol. It’s Chris. Call me when you get this message.”

Chris puts his phone down with a frown and Kate looks at him seriously.

“I still don’t think this is a good idea. You should let the police handle it, it’s what they do.”

“Kate, don’t argue with me on this. Please.”

He looks at her seriously, shadows lying in his eyes.

“I’m going to feel guilty about all of this until I talk to her, find out what’s going on in her sick mind. And I need to get peace of mind about Michele and Emma too.”

Kate sighs, squeezing his hand.

“Just… be careful. Okay?”

“I promise!”

“Yeah, okay… I’ll tell them. Thanks for calling me, Jodi. Bye.”

Becky puts her phone down, her face white as a sheet. She looks at Rhys shakily.

“Jodi… just called me from the hospital. There was a fire at Kate and Chris’ house… everyone is okay… but Noah… is blind.”

Rhys frowns, immediately pulling her into his arms.

“How’s that possible?”

“According to the doctors, a big shock can lead to temporary blindness… Something about his brain blocking his vision out.”

“Wow… poor kid…”

Becky shakes her head, tears forming in her eyes.

“It’s so unfair, Rhys! That kid has been through so much… you’d think he can finally be happy… but now…”

Rhys strokes over her back, still frowning.

“Bec… wait a second, okay? Temporary. Not permanent. Sooner or later, he’ll see again. They just have to sort the psychological stuff out and then he’s going to be fine.”

“It could be years!”

“Or it could be days. Come on now, be positive.”

Becky nods, wiping the tears off her cheeks.

“You’re right. I have to stay positive… I’m just… going to tell Tasha quickly.”

Rhys nods and sits down when she leaves, biting his lip nervously.

“Poor Noah…”

“Auntie Amy, I want to go see Noah!”

Ava looks at Amy seriously, her blue eyes worried.

“Please?”

Amy pulls her close, stroking over her blonde hair.

“Ava, Noah got badly hurt. It’s going to be a while before he can see… friends. Okay?”

Ava sighs and nods slowly.

“Can I write him a card?”

“Yeah, I think he’d like that.”

Ava grins brightly before running off to find paper and crayons.

PART 35

“Chris Sadrinna!”

Chris answers his phone with shaking hands, eyeing Kate anxiously. The voice that starts speaking in his ear, is cold enough to cause a chill to creep down his back.

“It’s Carol. What do you want?”

Chris sits down, pulling Kate down with him.

“I want to talk to you. Can we meet up?”

“Fine. When and where?”

“Palm Beach? Tomorrow at noon.”

“Fine. I’ll see you.”

He puts the phone down and looks at Kate, biting his lip.

“So… the meeting’s on. Tomorrow at noon.”

“Where?”

“Palm Beach.”

Kate snuggles up against him, taking his hand.

“I don’t want you to get hurt, Chris.”

“I won’t. Don’t worry about it.”

“I love you.”

“I love you too…”

“Blind? Are you sure?”

Amy looks at Jodi disbelievingly, grabbing her friends’ hand.

“Are you okay?”

Jodi nods slightly, tears forming in her eyes.

“Yeah… I’m a little shocked… and shaken… but I’ll be okay… Poor Noah…”

Amy puts her arms around Jodi, pulling her into a hug.

“Oh, Jodz!”

“What if he never sees again, Amy? How do you explain to a little child that he’s going to live in a dark world for the rest of his life?”

Amy strokes over Jodi’s back, biting her lip.

“Don’t think about that… maybe it’s just a day or two and then he’ll be fine again… You have to stay strong and be positive, Jodz. You just have to.”

“Yeah… for Noah.”

Amy nods seriously.

“For Noah.”

“Thanks, Aimz… I needed that.”

“Anytime.”

Paul looks at Noah’s sleeping face, his heart sinking second by second.

“My boy…”

He sighs deeply, reaching out to touch Noah’s face.

“I wish I could switch places with you. There’s so much you haven’t seen yet. And I want to explain to you, but I can’t. Maybe there’s something we can do… I don’t care what it costs, Noah. But you’re going to see again, okay? I promise you…”

“Mr. O’Brien?”

Paul looks over his shoulder to find Noah’s doctor standing there. A kind man with grey hair and blue eyes.

“Oh… Doctor Pierce.”

The doctor sits down next to Paul and looks at Noah silently.

“I heard you talking to him just now.”

“Is there anything we can do? Anything at all?”

Doctor Pierce looks at Paul seriously for a minute and then he nods.

“I know about a specialist in America. Doctor Michael Thompson. He’s the best there is in eye operations. Getting an appointment with him is… close to impossible.”

“Will you help us? Please?”

Doctor Pierce turns his head again to look at Noah, a smile breaking out on his face.

“I will.”

“But if she started the fire… then she’s dangerous, Chris. I can’t let you put yourself in danger like that.”

Kate looks at Chris seriously and he leans over to kiss her softly.

“I love you. I’ll be okay.”

“How do you know that?”

“Carol and I were married, Kate. I know her.”

“You think you know her.”

He sighs, pulling her closer.

“Hey… relax. Tomorrow night… this nightmare will be over and we can be together without her trying to ruin us. Just trust me, okay?”

“Okay…”
