“I can’t believe you can ask me that.”

Kate looks at Chris in awe and he shrugs.

“I need to know.”

“I don’t know, okay? I just… after Callan died, we got really close, we got to know each other ad if he was still alive, I don’t know whether we would have gotten to know each other in that way.”

“Who do you love the most?”

“I love you both... in different ways. How can you ask me this, Chris?”

“I’m sorry… I just… I need to know that things are going to work out for us. I don’t want to feel like I’m competing with Callan.”

“You’re not… he’s dead and there is no way I can be with him anymore. Yes, I still remember him and a part of me will always love him, but… I love you, Chris. I want to be with you.”

“I’m sorry for being so insecure.”

She moves onto his lap, pressing her lips against his.

“You have no need to be insecure at all. I promise you.”

“I just love you so much… it scares me.”

“Don’t let it… I love you just as much.”

Jodi yawns when her alarm goes off and frowns when she doesn’t see Paul next to her. She immediately goes to Brent’s room and smiles when she sees him sleeping peacefully in the circle of Paul’s arms. She tiptoes closer, planting a kiss on Paul’s cheek.

“Hey. Wake up… we have to go and pick up Noah.”

He opens his eyes slowly and smiles when Brent stirs next to him.

“Oh… right, sorry about… you know…”

“It’s fine… I’m going to hit the shower, you can wake him up.”

“Okay. I love you.”

“You too.”

She walks out and Paul smiles, touching Brent’s arm.

“Brent… hey, wake up.”

He opens his eyes slowly.

“Are we going to get Noah now?”

“As soon as you’re dressed.”

“Cool!”

He jumps off the bed, grabbing his clothes with a huge grin.

“We gonna get my brother, we gonna get my brother!”

Paul laughs, falling down on the bed.

“How can you be so awake?”

Brent grins.

“We gonna get Noah! I have to be awake!”

“Right… Then I guess I have to get up too, right?”

”Yep! Move that butt, dad!”

Paul grins and gets up from the bed.

“So… I take it you like Noah?”

“Yeah… he’s cooler than I thought. But no more okay?”

“Why not?”

“Because with Noah I can deal with it, it’s okay, but if you have more kids you’re just going to forget about me.”

“We’ll never do that. But we do have enough kids. For now.”

Nic looks at Clare seriously.

“You know we’re doing this for you. So you can get better.”

She glares at him angrily.

“I hate you.”

“Yeah, I know. And do you know what? You’re never going to see Ava again.”

“You can’t stop me.”

Nic laughs and shakes his head.

“I’m not even going to argue with you. Thanks guys. Take her away.”

Clare tries to pull away from the two doctors, but their hold on her is too strong and she glares at Nic with pure hatred in her eyes.

“You’ll pay for this.”

Nic suddenly loses his temper and lushes forward, seizing her shoulders and staring into her eyes angrily.

“Try. I dare you.”

“I will! I will!”

“No, Clare. Because you’ll be locked up for the rest of your life! Like you deserve! You can’t hurt me, or Amy or Ava ever again! We’re going to be happy. Blissfully happy and I hope that haunts you for the rest of your miserable life!”

One of the doctors pushes him away firmly.

“Mr. Bishop, please. Contain yourself.”

Nic shakes his head and retreats.

“I’m leaving. Good riddance, Clare.”

He walks outside and sighs when he feels the wind on his skin. Then he gets in his car and drives home. Amy and Ava are sitting in the living room and both look up when Nic enters the house. He nods and sits down next to Amy, patting Ava on the head lovingly.

“She’s gone. They took her to the institution…”

Amy closes her eyes and shakes her head.

“This isn’t how I wanted it to be.”

“Yeah… I know. But it’s how it is.”

Ava looks at Nic seriously.

“Dad, is mom going to get better?”

“I hope so, Ava. I really do…”

“Right… This is it.”

Rhys looks around with lifted eyebrows.

“Not exactly a mansion, but this is what we can afford… you can do most of the decorating…”

Becky nods, looking around with a small smile.

“It’s not that bad… except for the roof that has a giant hole in it…”

“Yeah, we’ll get that fixed.”

“Then it’s perfect…”

He grins, throwing his arms around her waist.

“I am nuts about you.”

“Oh I know… Now you need to get to work… I’ll be fine here, I promise.”

“Okay… call me if anything comes up, okay?”

“Will do.”

“Love you!”

“You too!”

He rushes out and Becky sits down on the wooden floor, looking around her with a small smile.

“Well there’s just no place like home.”

She frowns when she hears a muffled sound and tilts her head to listen carefully. There it is again… coming from upstairs… She walks up slowly, her heart beating in her throat. Becky comes to a stop in front of a closed door… it’s definitely someone walking in there… She takes a deep breath before slowly opening the door…

“Hey! I’m here!”

Rhys sits down next to Chris with a grin and looks at the faces around him.

“What’s up?”

“Latest ratings are in.”

Kate looks at Scott with a frown.

“Judging by your expression, I’d say it’s not so good…”

“You’ve got that right… John is waiting in the office. He wants to talk to each of you alone. And guys… it’s not so good.”

Kate frowns.

“What do you mean it’s not so good?”

“We need to boost ratings. To do that we need to shock people. Some of you… need to be axed. Indi… you’re in first.”

She stands up, walking into the office slowly. When she comes out again, she looks relieved. “Rhys, you’re next.”

Again he comes out looking relieved. So does Mark, Jess and Sharni. Chris is not so lucky however. When he returns, his face is ash white. Kate storms up to him, grabbing his arms.

“Chris?”

“I’ve been axed. I have until the end of the year.”

“They can’t do this!”

He tries to smile, pulling her close.

“They’re leaving a gap for you too. You can choose to stay or go.”

“I’m going. I’m not staying here without you.”

“Kate, you need to think about this.”

He lowers his voice, looking at her seriously.

“I don’t know when I’m going to get another job. And if you quit, neither do you. We have three kids to think of. And there’s another one on the way.”

She shakes her head, tears forming in her eyes.

“I don’t want you to go.”

“I don’t want to go. But we’ll pull through. You go in there and be strong, okay?”

She nods slightly, grabbing on to his shirt.

“I’m so sorry, Chris.”

“Hey, I already told you… I’ll be fine.”

He kisses her before she walks in, looking at John angrily.

“How could you do that? Chris and I have a family to take care of!”

“I know Kate, and I’m sorry…”

“Sorry? It’s not like you didn’t have a choice!”

“Did I really?”

“Of course! You could have just done something else! Why Chris? Of all people? He’s a good guy, he’s a good actor and he needs the job! Not that you care about that!”

“I do care, Kate!”

“You could have fooled me!”

“Kate, we are leaving a gap for you to go or stay. It’s your choice.”

“I have to stay. I have a family to support. But I hate you for this.”

She walks out, closing the door with force and rushes into Chris’ arms.

“If you didn’t tell me to stay, I swear I would have gone. I can’t believe they’re doing this, it’s ridiculous.”

“Kate…”

Chris looks at her seriously and she frowns.

“Who else has been axed?”

She searches her friends’ faces, each tear stained and upset.

“Guys? Tell me.”

Amy shakes her head.

“I’ve been axed along with Chris, Ada, Tim and Jon.”

Kate closes her eyes, feeling warm tears forming.

“It’s not fair. They can’t do this…”

Chris puts his arms around her waist, resting his chin on her head.

“Kate… it’ll be fine.”

“No, it won’t, Chris! Besides, how can they think that cutting five amazing characters is going to be good for the ratings?”

“Kate, calm down. They need to do what they think is best.”

Indiana shakes her head, looking at them teary eyed.

“I agree with Kate. It’s not going to feel right anymore.”

“Guys, stop. We’re old and ugly enough to deal with this, okay?”

Kate puts her arms around Chris’ waist.

“What about Jodi and Paul? Does anyone know whether they are still in?”

Thanks people!! Gonna post this chapter now, then I'm going to sit back and wait for RWC kick off. If South Africa loses, I'm going to go into a deep depression and not update or write for a week. If we win you get two updates instantly.

“Finally.”

Paul grins when the plane starts landing, patting Brent’s head.

“Welcome to Australia, my son.”

Brent looks out, his eyes shining.

“Wow… this is so cool! I can’t believe I like, live here now!”

He looks at Noah seriously.

“Do they like play lots of sports here? Footy and stuff?”

Noah nods.

“Footy, rugby, cricket, surfing… lots of it, dude.”

“I only played some footy in the orphanage… how ‘bout you?”

“I play rugby. I’ll teach you.”

“Okay… thanks. I’d like that.”

Paul grins.

“And I’ll teach you how to surf!”

Jodi frowns.

“No way. Not yet, maybe in a few years, but I’m not letting you take my kids out there on their age.”

Noah puts his hand on Jodi’s arm with a smile.

“Mum. You worry too much.”

“Yeah, that’s what mothers do…”

“Don’t worry about us. We’re rugged and tough. We can take it.”

Brent nods enthusiastically.

“Heck, yeah. My bro survived a fire. He’s a super person!”

“Yeah, but even super people have mothers. And this mother isn’t going to allow her boys to go surfing yet!”

Brent sighs and shakes his head.

“Mothers.”

“Come on, John! You really need to tell us! Are Jodi and Paul still in?”

John shakes his head.

“Sorry, guys. I can’t tell you anything, we have to talk to them first. We can’t tell you at this point.”

Kate rolls her eyes.

“That’s ridiculous!”

”Thank you, Kate. That’s enough. We’ve axed a few people already, don’t let your attitude force us to axe you next.”

Chris stands up, grabbing John’s shirt.

“Are you actually threatening her?”

“Back off, Sadrinna.”

“Make me.”

“Chris!”

Kate grabs the back of Chris’ shirt, pulling him away from John.

“Just let it go.”

Chris lets go, pushing John forward.

“Watch how you talk to Kate, mate. I’m warning you.”

“Chris!”

Kate puts her hands on her hips, looking up at him.

“I know you’re angry and upset, but did that really help?”

“It did actually.”

She shakes her head Chris bites on his lip.

“I’m sorry… I just lost it. Excuse me.”

He walks out and Kate closes her eyes before running after him. Ada bites on her lip, tears forming in her eyes.

“I can’t believe this… I’m going to miss you guys so much!”

Nic puts his arm around her shoulders, his other hand holding Amy’s.

“I’m sorry Ada…”

“And to think… I had this wonderful news that I wanted to share… now it… Oh, I don’t know.”

Amy frowns, looking at Ada seriously.

“What wonderful news?”

“I’m pregnant. Chrys and I are having a baby… But now… His salary isn’t that great you know. We’ll manage, but me losing my job actually causes quite a problem. I don’t know what we’re going to do.”

Becky looks at the person sitting in the corner of the room with a light frown.

“Who are you?”

“Me Ming Hui. No speak English.”

“Right… how did you get here? Eh…”

She signs with her hands, making big movements to demonstrate her words.

“How you get here?”

“Oh! Me get here! Me run! Away from bad man!”

“Bad man?”

Ming Hui nods enthusiastically and stands up with great difficulty. Becky’s eyes widen when her eyes fall on the figure of the woman that is clearly pregnant…

“You’re going to have a baby?”

“What? No, no! Me no want baby! Me not have baby now!”

“Okay, you wait. Stay here.”

Becky motions for her to wait, while she goes down and picks up her cell phone.

“Rhys? It’s Becky… yeah, could you come home? And… do you know someone who understands Chinese?”

“Chris! Wait!”

He finally stops and turns to face Kate.

“Just… talk to me. Please.”

He looks at her, defeated.

“What do you want me to say, Kate?”

“I want you to tell me how you’re feeling…”

“Angry. Upset. Shocked. Sad.”

“You know that everything is going to turn out all right, don’t you?”

“Is it?”

“How can you even ask that? Of course it is!”

He shakes his head, pulling her close against his chest.

“I don’t know, Kate… I don’t know whether I’ll find a job again and that scares me… I want to be a real man, a husband for you. I don’t want you to be the one who is looking after me.”

“Is that what’s worrying you?”

“Well can you blame me?”

“No… I guess not. But Chris, job or no job… you are a real man. And we’ll manage.”

He nods slowly, kissing her on top of her head.

“I love you.”

“I love you too.”

Well, as promised! Update one:

PART 47

“Right, so we’re going to stop by the set first guys. That okay with you?”

Brent and Noah nod happily at Paul’s suggestion, Noah’s eyes shining.

“Yay! Gonna see the fairy again!”

Brent frowns.

“You believe in fairies?”

“No! This one is real, and she’s in love with a giant.”

Brent frowns and looks at Paul seriously.

“Dad, I think Noah bumped his head.”

Paul laughs and shakes his head.

“You’ll see when we get there, Brent. Kate and Chris do look like a fairy and a giant – especially next to each other.”

“Cool. I like fairies, but I’m scared of giants.”

Noah shakes his head.

“Don’t be afraid of this one. He’s a Big Friendly Giant. He’s really really cool! You’ll see! “

“Okay…”

Brent nods slowly and Jodi smiles when the car stops at the set.

“Here we are. You can come on inside, guys.”

They all walk in, Brent a bit behind them. He freezes when he sees the many faces though and runs out as fast as his little legs can carry him, bumping in to someone’s legs before he’s out of the door properly. He looks up and his mouth drops open.

“Wow. Are you an angel? You’re hot.”

Kate laughs, picking him up and Chris lifts a brow.

“Quite the ladies man, aren’t you?”

Brent looks up at Chris and his eyes widen.

“Dude! Noah was right! You’re like a building!”

“Thanks!”

Chris grins and puts his arm around Kate’s shoulder.

“So you must be Brent.”

“Lucky guess.”

He looks at Kate seriously.

“Are you his wife?”

“Not yet… but I’m almost going to be.”

”How ‘bout the two of us ditch him and go away to America?”

Chris grins and Kate smiles softly.

“I don’t think Paul and Jodi would like that very much. Why aren’t you inside?”

“All the people scare me…”

“Well will you come inside with us?”

“Okay…”

Chris looks at Kate worriedly.

“Shouldn’t I take him?”

Brent tilts his head.

“You afraid that she’s going to like me better?”

“You have no idea.”

He grins and holds his arms out to Chris, who holds him with a smile.

“Now all the people in there are really nice. You’ll see. You have no need to be scared.”

”Okay… Cool. We can go in now.”

They walk in where Paul immediately approaches them.

“There you are! I see you found Chris and Kate.”

Brent nods and holds his arms out to Paul.

“Yep. I’m going to marry her one day, dad.”

“Oh yeah?”

He nods and Paul grins.

“Good taste, my boy.”

Chris looks at Paul darkly and Kate puts her hand on his arm.

“Not now. Where’s Noah?”

Paul smiles.

“On Indiana’s lap… I think he has a little crush… He learned a lot from Brent in a days time.”

“Oh?”

“Hmm. He walked right up to Indi and said you have eyes like the ocean my love. It worked like a bomb.”

He looks up when Jodi comes out and rushes up to her.

“Jodz? What did they say?”

“I’m not axed. But… I decided to quit.”

Rhys looks at Ming Hui with a frown.

“Becky, she’s going to have that baby very soon.”

“You think I don’t know that?”

“What are we going to do?”

“I have no idea.”

“So… she doesn’t speak English at all?”

“Not really, no. All I know is that she ran away from some bad man. And that her name is Ming Hui.”

At the sound of her name, Ming Hui looks up. She looks at Rhys and frowns.

“You? You bad! You man!”

“Okay, so she doesn’t seem to trust guys, does she?”

Becky walks forward, kneeling next to Ming Hiu.

“Ming Hui, Rhys is a good man.”

“No! No man good! No good!”

“Rhys is. He wants to help!”

“Me know he bad! He will hurt Ming Hui!”

Rhys backs away, a frown on his forehead.

“Okay… Becky, what are we going to do?”

“I don’t know! But we need to so something! Perhaps get a doctor?”

”Yeah… I’ll just call my mum… she’ll know what to do…”

“Okay… go call her then!”

Rhys grabs his cell phone, dialling his mother’s number.

“Hey, mum… It’s Rhys… Listen, we need your help… No, there’s a pregnant Chinese woman in our house… No, mum, it’s not a joke, I’m serious! Could you please just come over
