Random and Useless Facts About Television Shows...

Summerland

Taylor Cole (Erika Spalding) is Shawn Christian's (Johnny Durant) stepdaughter in real life

Though being part of the main cast, Taylor Cole and Zac Efron (Cameron Bale) do not appear in all 26 Episodes, Taylor was in 21 episodes whilst Zac was in 16 - they are also the only main cast members to be removed and readded to the opening credits and still be in the closing credits

The OC

The Cohen's pool is only four feet deep, so the cast do the pool scenes on their knees

In an early draft of the series, Ryan Atwood was going to be Sandy Cohen's illegitimate child

Chad Michael Murray was offered the role of Ryan, but he turned it down when he had the opportunity to play Lucas in One Tree Hill

In the first couple of episodes, the Cohens have a maid and the Coopers have a dog. Somehow the maid and dog disappeared without a trace during the first season

Melinda Clarke and Rachel Bilson were only meant to be guest stars, but their characters became so integral to the show's popularity that they finally got signed as regulars and appeared in the opening credits from season 2 and on

In one scene the characters talk about Seth vomiting "like that girl from The Sixth Sense". A joke, since Mischa Barton played that very girl in the film The Sixth Sense

Kelly Rowan is only 14 years older than Adam Brody, who plays her son

The Vicar of Dibley

Dawn French initially requested to play Alice Tinker, because she felt the vicar wouldn't be funny enough and that she understood Alice's humor. She later requested that the Vicar have some sort of faults -- hence her being a bit lonely, a bit vain, and having a massive chocolate obsession

Are You Being Served?

The "lift voice" heard during the theme song played in each episode is that of Stephanie Gathercole who plays Mr. Rumbold's secretary in the earliest episodes

According to an interview with Mollie Sugden, who portrayed Mrs. Slocombe, the first season of the series was produced by the BBC, but the company eventually decided not to broadcast it. In the summer of 1972 however, the broadcasting of the live reports from the Munich Olympics had to be canceled due to the Black Monday incident. Seeing how they needed a show to fill in the gaps in the programming, 'Are You Being Served?' was "dusted off", according to Mrs. Sugden.

The name of Mrs. Slocombe's erm... cat was Tiddles

The Nanny

The dog Chester, which appeared as CC's dog in many episodes, was actually Fran Drescher's dog, Chester Drescher

When CC gets sent to the sanitarium, Lauren Lane was actually off for the birth of her child

Several episodes were shelved after the network decided to have the show cancelled

When the show was broadcast in the UK, many viewers wrote in to chide Charles Shaughnessy over his "fake" English accent, and suggested he practice with co-star Daniel Davis on how to do a proper English accent. The cast found this quite amusing, as Shaughnessy is a native Englishman born in London, while Davis is an American born in Arkansas

During the show's six season run, both Lauren Lane and Rachel Chagall became pregnant twice on the show. But unlike other sitcoms, that hid their pregnant actresses behind props or had them sitting, producers of this show made no attempt to hide or explain the growing bellies, except for one episode were C.C. makes a reference to Elaine on Seinfeld being hidden by props when she became pregnant and she is jokingly hiding herself with props

Rachel Chagall's twins (born 1999) are named Eve and Jonah; the same names as Fran and Maxwell's twins, Eve Catherine and Jonah Samuel, born on the show

Brothers & Sisters

Tom Skerritt and Sally Field have played a married couple before, in Steel Magnolias. They played roles of Julia Roberts's parents.

Unusually for a show that turned out to be a critical and commercial hit, in the weeks before the first episode aired, this show went through several cast and crew changes. The Walker family matriarch, Iva, played by Betty Buckley in the original pilot, was recast with Sally Field and renamed Nora. Walker brother Bryan, played by Jonathan LaPaglia, was recast with Matthew Rhys , renamed Kevin, and given a new back story (instead of Bryan being an ex-husband and father who was newly out of the closet, Kevin was a never-married lawyer who was more comfortable with his homosexuality)

Grey's Anatomy/Private Practice

In an early episode Meredith is seen posting a poster asking for a roommate. The poster is only visible for a second, but it mentions that "Bush supporters need not apply" along with other details about the house.

The show's title is a reference to the famous anatomy book "Gray's Anatomy of the Human Body" by Henry Gray

Kate Walsh's character, Addison Shepherd, was only supposed to appear in 5 episodes, but quickly developed a fan base so they kept her on

(Private Practice) The role of Naomi Bennett was played by Summerland's Merrin Dungey in the pilot episode's The Other Side of this Life, the character was later recast with Audra McDonald

All Saints, A Country Practice and Blue Heelers

ALL SAINTS - The only two people to remain actively working on the show since its debut are cast member Judith McGrath and location manager Marcia Robinson

ACP - The episode where Molly Jones dies of cancer was one of the highest rating in the series history. Although the rating system of the day was antiquated, the episode rated in the high 30s which equates to more than a 30 per cent share of all prime time viewing, across five free to air networks - in US terms, roughly equivalent to an episode of Charlie's Angels at the height of its popularity. It dominated newspaper front pages of the day, and is still one of the most discussed episodes of Australian TV

Many of the storylines were suggested by newspaper articles or from the Australian Medical Association

BLUE HEELERS - Before her death in a car accident in season two, Tom's first wife Nell Croydon was mentioned in almost every episode but was never seen. In the episode of her death, her voice is heard and we see her left eye briefly in a photograph Tom touches before her funeral. Behind the scenes, John Wood who plays Tom thought the idea of Nell being talked of but never seen was hilarious, and called her "non-existant Nell". The episode of her death was rated one of the saddest moments in Australian television

Before filming started on the pilot episode, Anne Burbrook was cast as Maggie Doyle and Lisa McCune as Roz Patterson. The two actresses swapped roles to avoid being typecast in the future

William McInnes and Martin Sacks were each originally cast to play each others parts, but swapped before filming the pilot as the producers believed McInnes looked "more like a Schultz"

The cancellation of the show in January 2006 made front-page headline news on nearly all of Australia's major daily newspapers, including "The Sydney Morning Herald" and Sydney's "The Daily Telegraph", Melbourne's "The Herald Sun" and "The Age", and Brisbane's "The Courier Mail"

The same blue heeler dog was used as Tom Croydon's dog Digger throughout the entire series. In reality its name was Bluey, and lasted in the show from 1994-2005

I hope you take at least one thing away from there that you didn't already know :D

Reg Varney wouldn't sit out his part all the way. He left the series in the final season, after episode 69 (entitled "Goodbye Stan"). So Varney wasn't in the last six episodes of this series. His absence was explained by Stan moving to the Midlands, to work in a bus making factory. Inspector Blakey moved into the Butler household as a lodger, so he promoted from a bit-player to the show's primary character. Varney did feature in the third "On the Buses"-movie later on in 1973, entitled "Holiday on the Buses"
