chatter box Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 What a lovely topic! I have seen Chicago, Les Miserables, Phantom, Rocky Horror Show etc. I also love some of the older musicals such as 42nd Street, Singin' In the rain, Carousel, Annie Get Your Gun, and Calamity Jane. I also have a soft spot for Annie, but then I am a red head too. I am hoping to see Jospeh and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, and Wicked when we are next in the UK. I also like Opera. have you seen much Opera? It's amazing in its intensity and depth, and has something which is indescribable.
Ashirr-Leigh Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 I love musicals too! Not seen that many tho. I've seen Cats (amazing!), Chicago & The Wizard of Oz. The last one was just a little drama club production but it was in the theatre and it really was awesome. I'm going to see West Side Story with my mum soon and then also Blood Brothers with my friend. I'm sooo excited!
Bellsy Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 It's my favourite theatre medium, too. I'm pretty much a musical freak Professionally, I've seen Singin' In The Rain, Boy From Oz (both the Todd McKenny and Hugh Jackman productions) and The Lion King (best.18th.ever! Most amazing...wow....), Wizard of Oz on Ice... I've also seen various school productions, namely Annie and The Wizard of Oz...I'm so tired, I'm sure I'm forgetting something In high school, I was a cast member of Guys & Dolls and Jesus Christ Superstar! Awesome experiences. I have a fair few musicals on dvd. AHHH! I just love them! Ashirr-leigh? West Side Story? !
KristinaLeighTaylor. Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 I adore Musical Theatre, (anything BUT Wicked.) Recently in Birmingham with the Birmingham Operatics Society we performed Les Miserables and I got to play the part of Eponine which is the best part I've ever had, (excluding Sandy in Grease.) I was so happy with my part, and my costumes. And Marius was GORGEOUS! ;)
January Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 I love the theatre. Have just seen the Rocky Horror Show (yet again ) as its season here in Melbourne is coming to an end. It was great. The costumes, lighting and special effects were fabulous and have kept up with the times. I hadn’t come across iOTA, the guy playing Frank N Furter before. He was excellent. And of course Riff Raff had us all doing the Time Warp in the aisles at the end.
Symphony Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 Am a great lover of musicals; once upon a time, it was my alltime dream to get a job playing flute/piccolo in a West End Musical, in London - for my career. that dream is over now, although I know I'll do depping in musicals professionally from time to time, and amateur works whenever i have the spare time. To date, i've performed in a two week professional stint of Sound of Music, and an eighteen-night professional stint of Man of La Mancha. Aside from that, done numerous amateur productions of Grease, Cats, Les Miserables, Joseph, Jesus Christ Superstar, among others. Whilst I lived in London, every spare penny was spent on cheap musical tickets. I'm addicted to Avenue Q, and absolutely gutted that it's closing in March; I won't get to see it again. LOVE Daniel Boys too Favourite musical is by far and away Avenue Q. Love Wicked [saw Idina in it xD] and Les Miserables of course although I don't want to sit through taht for another ten years, having seen it 14 times now! Andd Jesus Christ Superstar; what a killer. Love the music & lyrics to 'Aida' but haven't seen it yet!! Ahh muscials!
rachel&kim Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 Just reviving this thread to say I think I need to go to some sort of Mamma Mia rehab. Ever since I got the dvd for christmas I can not stop watching it! I'm averaging about once a day. I think it's the songs in musicals that mean you can just watch them over and over without getting bored. I watched Rent repeatedly when I first got that. I've never seen Mamma Mia on stage and now I'm not sure I want to because I hate it when I've fallen in love with one version of a song and then it's sung differently but I think I will go one day. I just love the way the movie's put together and how much fun everyone seems to be having, I bet it was the best set to be on! And Meryl Streep is just fab. Any other enthusiasts out there or am I alone in my obsession!

Any other enthusiasts out there or am I alone in my obsession! You're not alone. I love Mamma Mia too! I've had the soundtrack ever since the movie came out and my sister bought me the DVD for Christmas (she knows me too well, lol!). It just makes me so happy when I watch it because it all the songs are so much fun (and the cast all look like they are having a great time as well!). I've seen lots of plays on stage but only one musical (ashamed!) and that was a high school production of Back to the 80's which I loathed. I also acted in Jesus Christ Superstar, which was a lot of fun! I wanted to go and see the Lion King so much but I couldn't afford to fly to Sydney, which was a pain! I am going to see the production of Guys and Dolls when it commences in Sydney though. I've heard that it was great in Melbourne last year. So I am really excited for that. I love all the actors that are in it too.
emmasi Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 Mum used to take me to a lot of musicals but it was such a long time ago that I can't even remember what I've seen. My earliest memory is of Les Mis, starring Rachael Beck . More recently I've seen Chicago, Priscilla, Billy Elliot, We Will Rock You, The Boy From Oz (Hugh Jackman - yay!), Mama Mia... Was Fame a musical? Because I feel like I've seen that, but I'm not even sure it exists... I'd also like to mention Jesus Christ Superstar and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat. Jesus Christ Superstar is my favourite musical, even though the only live version I've seen was at high school (same with Joseph). We had a great cast I'm still waiting for a couple of people I used to know to pop up as professional actors some day.
