Phil Bryant (Mazza's 1st exit), Simon Broadhurst, Ian... probably more I'm forgetting. Handsome, boring, Prince Charming, one dimensional strangers. Cheese alert! At least you don't go all Rumplestiltskin at the mere mention of certain characters or froth at the mouth... Phil was hardly a Prince if we're to believe off-screen events, but then Maz was no damsel given what we learned in 2022! I suspect fault probably on both sides. Phil probably craved more, ergo it away with their Neighbour, Maz probably felt wanted by this Tim character. Toni must have been licking her chops when they split (she never liked Maz) The writers believed Pip and Angel needed a Happily ever after all the s*** they'd been through so enter those two 2 Quote
Old H&A Fan Posted April 16 Report Posted April 16 (edited) I would have thought after 2 husbands, Pippa would be sick of it, plus how could she "fall for" another man so easily? Broadhurst got into Angel's pants far too easily for my liking, and he was already taking over from Shane even before he died. Plus being as obscenely rich as he was, you'd think he'd be one of the "evil" characters. Money being the root of all evil and all that. But not Broadhurst? Why??? Phil sux Marilyn? Marilyn is just too gullible! And why did Marilyn never have any children or "accidental pregnancies" to him? Doesn't her virgin-before-marriage attitude even permit her to have sex even after marriage? Edited April 16 by Old H&A Fan 3 Quote
cymbaline Posted April 17 Report Posted April 17 Maybe she was the type who fell for men more easily than you'd think. By the time the first anniversary of Tom's death rolled around, she was getting ready to tie the knot with Michael. At least the months between Michael's death and hooking up with Ian could be measured in double figures. Using Ian as a way to write Pippa out was perfectly fine, because they needed a way to move her on. She had more ties than most people, what with the foster kids and owning property etc. The other two guys are a bit creepy. Simon gives me the ick for all sorts of reasons and his English accent is straight out of stereotype hell. Phil was a more straightforward smarmy middle-aged bloke who couldn't believe he'd pulled... Angel and Marilyn didn't need these blokes as reasons to leave the Bay. Young people tend to be more transient and if either had simply decided that it was time to move on, nobody would've batted an eyelid. Quote

Doesn't her virgin-before-marriage attitude even permit her to have sex even after marriage? Maz did have a pregnancy... just not to Phil! Maz Had an affair with a married bloke named Tim Frazer, resulting in a daughter, Heather who she ended up surrending to Tim and his Mrs who raised Heather as hers. Heather later tracked her down in 2022 and it didn't end well... Cue one Mad Hatters Tea party with Alf, Roo, Irene and Leah being drugged and a balcony fall for Heather later. Yes, that was bats*** even for H&A. Simon wasn't a bad guy, just a bit "wet" by Julian Garner's own admission. He even helped Don raise the funds for Byron's treatment in '99 when he made a brief return (New head) 2 Quote

Donald Fisher and June was another, but that came in 2003 and was undone in a future guest stint anyway. I'm struggling to think of any others from that period right now. It was pretty standard in Australian soaps in the 80s and 90s though. Cathy Hayden, Brendan Jones and Maggie Sloan in A Country Practice, and then characters like Mrs Mangel, Des Clarke, Lance Wilkinson and Dorothy Burke in Neighbours are other examples. 1 Quote

We never met Fiona in Neighbours. Quote
