There were plenty of ways he could have left Erinsborough. But was it really? They mashed up, He moved to Adelaide, had a breakdown, Jamie wound up in care and legged it to Erinsborough after being bullied by older boys. Cue intervention by Stu, Harold and the Kennedys and they were able to reunite father and son. That was extra sour as Paul Keane had substance abuse problems and was in and out of rehab (Documented, so not libellous, admin) He did get a second go with Fiona and that fell through. Then the thing with Jane in 2020 after Nicolette basically dissected the relationship by pointing things out. 13 minutes ago, adam436 said: I don't even remember Juliet or even how James left the show. I assumed he just had a quick and quiet exit since he was pretty much just a spare part without Chloe. Basically, James after splitting with Chloe and having a lacklustre 30th (got a $10 in a card from her few months after she left), decided to cut his losses and move overseas and after some stuff with a birthday balloon, He and Juliet took off. I dunno if they stayed together or what though... Quote
Chair Posted April 18 Report Posted April 18 23 hours ago, adam436 said: You could argue Mandy and Shannon too, though at least that was different to the standard exit. Donald Fisher and June was another, but that came in 2003 and was undone in a future guest stint anyway. I'm struggling to think of any others from that period right now. It was pretty standard in Australian soaps in the 80s and 90s though. Cathy Hayden, Brendan Jones and Maggie Sloan in A Country Practice, and then characters like Mrs Mangel, Des Clarke, Lance Wilkinson and Dorothy Burke in Neighbours are other examples. Was Steven a guest in 1997 and 1998? OK he was a returning character but he returned to whisk Selina off her feet. Quote

To pick up back up with Selina and was there to give her a proper exit with their reunion in Ironbridge they made a few fans cheer and some suck their teeth and others inbetween 1 Quote

Maz Had an affair with a married bloke named Tim Frazer, resulting in a daughter, Heather who she ended up surrending to Tim and his Mrs who raised Heather as hers. Heather later tracked her down in 2022 and it didn't end well... Cue one Mad Hatters Tea party with Alf, Roo, Irene and Leah being drugged and a balcony fall for Heather later. Yes, that was bats*** even for H&A. Simon wasn't a bad guy, just a bit "wet" by Julian Garner's own admission. He even helped Don raise the funds for Byron's treatment in '99 when he made a brief return (New head) I remember him doing one of the kindest acts in soap. He told Don that one of his pictures was worth a lot and suggested auctioning it off. And it then turned out that HE was the one that bought it, before giving him the picture back! I can remember Don filling up when he discovered this. 2 1 Quote
Old H&A Fan Posted April 19 Report Posted April 19 sheesh....What a real bootlicker this Broadhurst person was. Anyway. I have another question: Remember when Ryan came back to town, in Episode 1117? Nick hated his guts for "ruining his life", and still held a grudge against him despite the fact his life with Loo was behind him. Shane hated him because he changed his mind about charging him over the stolen car. My question is, why did the whole town hate him so that Alsa and Bobby wouldn't give him a job at the Diner? What did he do to them? I thought his beef was only concerning Nick and Shane. Why the whole town, like as if he were a mass murderer? And all because he caused Nick and Loo to split up? Why is it the whole town's business what went on between Nick and Lucinda? 1 Quote

You can't cut a fart without people knowing about it and they're know to side with locals rather than blow-ins. And it wasn't the WHOLE town, Adam and Sophie were prepared to give him the time of day and he was just another customer to the Rosses. 1 1 Quote

It was very out of character for Bobby to not give him a job though. Ailsa, on the other hand, had become very judgemental and prissy by then. Quote
CaptainHulk Posted April 25 Report Posted April 25 Probably more "Nick's a mate blah blah blah" than anything else but she probably used Lougate as a reading justify but yeah, She generally gave folk a fair shake (well, wouldn't you want a fair shake if you walked into the diner! I got a million of 'em! *crowd groans*) 2 Quote
