^Gypsy went on a couple of dates with Vinnie when she first arrived and went to the movies with Sam when she and Will had split up but neither was particularly serious. At the end of the year, she was nominally in a secret relationship with Robert Perez/David D'Angelo, prior to him kidnapping her.

I was reading up on Early Year characters and what happens to them and read that Sarah becomes Tug wife! Now I don't remember that happening at all. Did it happen off screen?

I believe the first we learnt of it was in Episode 4000, when Irene noticed Sarah arriving and wasn't sure whether she was Thompson or O'Neale since she'd married Tug.

Actually, I believe it was first mentioned in early 2002, in Episode 3215, when Nathan comes back and asks Alf how Sarah is.

Oh yes, of course. Alf mentioned they were expecting their second kid - though it wasn't confirmed in that scene whether they were actually married (though I guess we can presume they were), unless it came in a later ep.

Oh, really? I thought Alf did say they were married but I'm obviously remembering it wrong.I'm pretty sure it wasn't mentioned again until 2005, it was just a throwaway line.

I love the fact that the writers put Sarah and Tug together offscreen. I was always gutted they didn't end up together in the 90s. The writers of the 2000s episodes obviously felt the same!

Hmm, at the time I felt it came out of nowhere, even if there was a kind of logic to it given that he ended up working for her father so they'd still be in contact. And watching the 90s episodes again, I'm left feeling that they were better off as friends, and the 2000s writers stuck them together because they'd acquired a reputation of being second only to Shane and Angel in the mid-90s "super couple" stakes, when in fact they were a three month relationship that came to a natural end a long time previous.I don't know, maybe Tug had grown up a lot in the intervening years, it just never felt like a natural development to me.

Entirely believable to me. I never had a problem with it, in fact I always imagined they would get together off screen which is why I was so happy the writers confirmed it years later. I felt that of ALL the possible exits they could have given Tug, to have him go and live on Sarah's dad's farm, was very much hinting at this possible future development. Even as a youngster I remember thinking this. This is the first I've ever heard of Sarah and Tug acquiring in retrospect a reputation as a "back up" couple to Shane and Angel. I never thought anybody saw them that way, least of all me. As for Tug growing up and maturing a lot over the space of 8 years from a late teenager to a mature mid 20's adult, I think it's less a case of "maybe" he did and more a case of "in all probability".

I also love the fact that Alf and Sarah got a happy embrace in episode 4000 (even if it was dialogue-less). It was a little moment of closure for me, because it shows that since their unhappy parting of the ways (which I HATED), they had either patched things up off-screen, or it had just become water under the bridge.

It was believable, yes, but appropriate? Not in my opinion.I seem to remember that just before Tug leaves, Sarah tells her father "I know what you want for me: That I marry Tug and have a load of kids", as if that was if not her worst nightmare then certainly not what she wanted her future to be, so the fact that that seems to have been exactly what happened seems vaguely unsatisfying, when she even tried to get Tug to make Matthew dislike him so he wouldn't try and set them up.Sarah did come back for Shane and Angel's wedding: I don't recall her having any real interaction with Alf but I don't recall any sign of a feud either.I just think they were two names that had become associated with each other and the writers arbitrarily married them off without knowing exactly what their history was.

Alf wasn't at Shane & Angel's wedding due to the accident was he? I don't remember any Sarah scenes away from Angel & the wedding stuff (i.e. At Don's, the church etc...) on her return.
