Chapter 36:

Previously:

Finally reaching their climax, the world rushed back. The heat of the room suddenly consuming their bodies; their faces red due to the intensity of their passion, and their bodies wringing wet in saturation ... no feeling had ever been quite like this …

“Wow … that was so hot” he gushed. “Literally” he added with a smirk; wiping away the beads of sweat that lay on his forehead.

She chuckled back through her dry throat; desperately in need of some fluids.

They were both laid down on their backs, on the separate wooden benches.

It was five minutes following their sexual encounter, and both were still on a high.

“I need a drink” she said as she swallowed away her dry throat.

“Mhm, me too” he spoke back dreamily.

He could literally see stars in his eyes as his head continued to spin.

Rubbing his eyes his vision was brought into focus.

“Can you get up?” he asked her; turning his head slightly but failing to sit up, he was too drained and exhausted to move.

“No, not really … I think you broke me” she giggled.

“Yeah, I think I broke myself” he chuckled back.

With one almighty heave, he pushed himself upwards and sat on the bench to face her.

His mind spun a little as the blood rushed to his head, his previously starry eyes also going a tad blurry before returning into focus.

Grabbing his discarded boxer shorts from off the bench, he pulled them on, before running his fingers through his damp hair.

“Come on” he called over to her from where he stood, “let’s get back in the pool, I’m in dire need of cool water” he laughed weakly; looking across at her as she lay on her back.

“Yeah, alright. Help me up”.

Walking over towards her, he held her hand, pulling her onto her feet…

(Back in the swimming pool)

Her feet hit the tiled floor as she stepped into the pool. Turning around to face Jack, she watched as he made his way in behind her.

She noticed his toothy grinned expression as he stepped inside…

“Someone’s happy” she said; her grin also as wide as a Cheshire cat.

“Well, that’s what happens when I get my own way” he smirked as he raised his eyebrows at her.

“Hmm” she nodded back; her grin now falling into a warm loving smile as she looked at him.

He stopped for a moment, looking intently into her eyes, and taking note of her sweet and almost innocent smile. “What?” he asked softly.

“Nothing” she replied shyly, “I’m just …” she shrugged; pausing once again to glance away, “… I’m really lucky to have you” she said, the words almost choking in her throat.

His forehead scrunched up in surprise; but he continued to smile, “where’d that come from?”

She shrugged timidly. “Nowhere. I just felt like saying it”.

“Aw; how sweet are you!”. He replied; touched by her words. “But I believe I am the lucky one here” he added.

She chuckled softly, lightly shaking her head; her cheeks flushing in the sunlight, before she leant forwards, wrapping her arms around his neck and hugging him tightly.

He pulled her into him; lifting her legs up around his waist and cherishing her in his arms…

(20 minutes later)

“Wonder where we could go next time” he thought aloud; watching in amusement as her eyebrows quickly rose.

“Next time!?” she asked gob smacked.

“Yeah” he grinned back; trying his best to stifle his giggle.

“Who says there’s going to be a next time” she said in a serious tone; doing her best to prevent her cheeky smile from showing through.

“Oh please" he laughed her off, "dont joke with me" he looked at her in amusement.

"Actually Jack, I'm deadly serious" she replied, the determination in her eyes as clear as day.

"What!?” his voice gradually softened as his amusement quickly disappeared. “You can’t tell me that was just a one time only thing?” he added; his voice a little hurt as he spoke.

She shrugged, “haven’t decided yet” she smiled across at him with wide and angelic eyes.

“Oh please! You can’t do this to me” he frowned. “Didn’t you feel the rush of adrenaline at how daring it was!?” he added; doing his best to try and persuade her around.

“Well … I guess it was pretty exciting” she cautiously replied.

“Oh come on, admit it!” he teased her; giving her a playful poke in the stomach, “there’s no denying it! That was the hottest experience of your life!”

“Don’t” she giggled, pushing away his poking finger. “And I’m not saying anything” she raised her eyebrows and turned away from him; trying her best to stifle her giggle.

“Yeah yeah; you can’t fool me” he grinned, folding his hands around her waist and spinning her back around to face him. “No one can moan that loud and not be enjoying themselves,” he smirked into her neck in a low and husky voice. His hands now tickling her sides.

“Alright, fine” she giggled as she struggled in his arms. “I admit it! It was the hottest and most thrilling experience I’ve ever had … I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t go back for seconds” she smirked, before giggling.

“I knew it” he exclaimed in pride, “you try to hide it but I can see straight through it, you really are a dirty little minx at heart aren’t ya” he teased her.

She darted her vision too and fro, scrutinizing the area before she stepped in closer towards him. “Tell know one” she softly answered back; looking into his eyes as her face lit up in a warm smile.

Molding her body into his and closing her eyes, she allowed for him to sway her in the water; moving her around the depths of the pool before gliding her across towards the shallow water.

Directing her back towards the edge, he wedged her in; enclosing the space between them as he kept a comfortable hold of her waist.

“You know, I hate to be a party pooper” she began, “but … maybe we should head back to our rooms now”, she said; placing each arm onto the side; while her legs remained wrapped around his waist, holding him close towards her.

“Aw, not yet … 5 more minutes” he pouted, before soon receiving a nod from Martha; she didn’t take much persuading.

Leaning inwards, he captured her lips; kissing her lovingly and tenderly.

Pulling away they gazed contentedly into each others eyes; no other feeling could surpass this moment, this was the first time they had been together in a public place. There were no walls or locked doors; it was just them and the clear open space.

It was beyond perfection.

Unbeknownst to them however, their happiness was soon to be broken...

The sound of approaching footsteps to their side could be heard; but they were both too wrapped up in each others gaze to take much notice.

5 seconds later and the footsteps had stopped, only to be replaced by an unexpected shadow from above which quickly engulfed their bodies.

The sudden lack of sunlight caught their attention, as they turned in confusion to confront the shady figure.

At that moment, it was as if everything had turned into slow motion, their eyes and faces taking a few seconds to come to terms with the reality of what was about to happen.

The world quickly rushed back however, as they took in the appearance of the person before them.

The two astonished and confused eyes stared down at them in question, as it quickly became evident that their secret affair was now no longer a secret…

Chapter 37:

“WHAT THE HELL IS THIS!?” exclaimed the bewildered voice.

Their bodies remained rigid on the spot, their wide and anxious eyes fixed on the person standing above them.

Sheer dread ran through her veins at that very moment, her face being drained of its colour as reality harshly sunk in. “Oh god” she muttered in a whisper, looking helplessly into Jacks eyes for protection, before she pulled herself away from him.

Standing back, she bowed her head downwards in disgrace.

“I’m waiting!” the voice pressed on.

Taking a glance at Martha, Jack noticed her distinct look of shame; her head lowered downwards and her hands clasped neatly in front of her. She spoke no words at all.

Sensing it was up to him, Jack moved towards the steps, making his way up to ground level, and preparing himself to explain...

“Look, Kim” Jack slowly began, rubbing the back of his neck as he went, “I know how bad this looks…”

“BAD!?” he burst, “are you kidding me!? I’ve just spent the entire afternoon with your girlfriend; the very one that totally adores you, might I add, and here you are, off in your own little world, making out with your sister! Yeah, I think ‘bad’ is one way to sum it up,” he rolled his eyes.

He sighed, briefly closing his eyes, “I know,” Jack continued, “look, it wasn’t supposed to happen this way; we never meant for anyone to get hurt” he told him.

“Oooh, ok” replied a sarcastic Kim, “so I guess that makes it alright then doesn’t it” he flashed him an un-impressed glare.

“No, of course it doesn’t … I’m just saying, we didn’t set out to intentionally hurt anyone” he tried his best to ease the tense situation.

“You know, this is unbelievable!” beamed a flabbergasted Kim, “but a part of me doesn’t know why I didn’t suspect it” Kim began in a rant; “I mean, for starters, you’ll crack onto anything that walks and talks” he began in reference to Jack.

“HEY!” an aggravated Jack retaliated.

“And you” he turned to Martha; ignoring Jacks retort, “well, I knew you were picky when it came to guys, but geeze … your own brother? Does the word incest not mean anything to you!?” he questioned her in a patronizing manor.

“Alright that’s just about enough!” Jack snapped back, “Firstly, get your facts straight before you go around accusing people, incase you have a short memory Kim, we're not even related. And secondly, I know we’ve done wrong here, and we’ll accept the consequences, but you don’t get to talk to us like we’re dirt! Especially not to Martha!”

“Why not” a small voice spoke up, “it’s true” she gradually rose her head to meet with Jacks sad and concerned eyes, “ … I’ve completely betrayed everything my friendship with Lisa stands for; trust, honestly, loyalty … the list goes on” she slowly shook her head at her disgraceful behaviour.

“That doesn’t make you dirt” Jack spoke up; a determined look present in his eyes as he looked at her.

“She’s my best friend Jack! And I betrayed her!” she cried; raising her voice at him.

“It doesn’t matter!” he shot back, “she may be your best friend, but she’s also my girlfriend … which makes me just as much responsible as you” he told her; trying to take some of the pressure away from her.

She looked sadly into his eyes; despite feeling an enormous amount of devastation, she couldn’t help but be touched by Jacks ongoing support. The continual effort of support and encouragement he gave her, just showed her how lucky she was to have him. Because the bottom line of it was, even though Jack wouldn’t openly admit it, the lying and the sneaking around was all because of her.

“Look Kim” Jack turned back to his friend, “I don’t know what to say to you” he shrugged helplessly, “I cant say sorry, because its not like an apology can make much of a difference … but, you have to understand, when we first started this, it wasn’t meant to be a secret; we were planning on being open and honest about it … but,” he paused, looking across at Martha for a brief moment, “it didn’t quite go to plan … and we eventually decided that …”

“I, you mean” she softly spoke up, her head rising to face them, “I decided we should wait”.

“Martha, don’t” sighed Jack.

“No Jack! We may as well be honest here, I’m not going to sit back and let you take all of the blame for this, when we both know that this is really all my fault” she finished in sadness; once again lowering her head, unable to look into the eyes of her friend and her boyfriend.

“I know that Lisa wont ever forgive me for this” she mumbled through her quivering lip, her eyes watering and spilling over onto her cheeks, “but I honestly didn’t mean to hurt her … I just …” the words choked in her throat, as she sobbed in distress.

“Martha … honey, please don’t cry” Jack called over to her, finding himself re-entering the pool and coming to her side to comfort her.

“It’s going to be ok” he soothed her, wrapping his arms around her cold, wet and trembling body. “Look, why don’t you go upstairs; have a shower, freshen up a bit … it might help you feel better” he suggested, “I’ll be up as soon as I can, and we can talk this through” he placed his finger beneath her chin, gently lifting her head and encouraging her to look at him.

She looked into his eyes with uncertainty, not really favoring the idea of leaving him alone to handle it, but she slowly nodded, agreeing to do as she was told.

“I know it’s hard but, please try not to worry” he hushed into her ear, before placing a soft kiss on her forehead.

Meanwhile Kim remained silent, his face permanently fixed in a frown as his mind worked over time; trying its best to make sense of the situation.

“Well wasn’t that sweet” began a bitter Kim, as he watched Martha walk away, her arms wrapped around her body for protection as she dithered in the cool air so helplessly. “It certainly is loves young dream isn’t it” he added, before narrowing his eyes at Jack.

“Look, are we going to be mature adults about this? Or are you going to keep acting like a total git?”

“Well why not? Its not like you haven’t acted like one for the past, how many weeks”, he retaliated with a shrug.

Jack sighed a lengthily exhale; rubbing his forehead as he felt a headache coming on.

“You should have told the truth Jack” he shook his head at him, “even if Martha had said no, you still should have done the right thing” his voice lowered into a more controlled manor.

“You don’t understand” replied Jack; in a soft and weak tone of voice.

Walking over towards the side of the pool, he sat on the tiled-edge, dipping his feet into the water and waiting as Kim soon sat beside him.

“You have no idea how long it took me to finally break down her walls,” he carefully began, “She’s the most stubborn and shielded person that I’ve ever met … her face can say one thing but her mouth can say another” he lightly shook his head, “… but, I knew deep down, she just needed a release; a chance to just let go and enjoy life. And I wanted to give her that … I had no idea it’d turn into such a roller coaster of a ride” he told him honestly.

It was now Kim’s turn to take the spot light, as he gave his understanding of the situation. “Look Jack, Martha’s a complex girl. She always has been, always will be … and yeah, you’re right, she needed a release, someone to wake her up and pull her out of her shell … but you went the wrong way about it man … you’ve totally strung Lisa along, not to mention Tony, and that was completely un-called for”.

“I know … I honestly didn’t mean for that to happen … I didn’t want to hurt anyone.” The sincerity in his voice told Kim just how sorry Jack was. It was just unfortunate that the damage was already set … and soon ready to explode.

“It wouldn’t have been so bad if I had Martha on side, but … she’s been going through so much lately; she’s having such a hard time with uni and failing her exams...”

“Yeah, but, that doesn’t have to be a major drama” Kim interrupted. “Ok, it sucks that she failed but, she’s a smart girl, she can easily resist them”.

“That’s not the point!” Jack bit back through irritation, before he silently warned himself to calm down. “She felt so ashamed of herself, she didn’t even tell Tony because she didn’t want to disappoint him … and then, when we started to get closer, she was going insane through worry, she knew that no one would approve, well, at least that’s what she’d been telling herself” he said, a little roll of the eyes accompanied his speech. “And then when we finally got together, it just … spiraled out of control” he added with helplessness.

“Yeah, you’ve got that right” replied Kim; shaking his head at the situation they had found themselves in.

“We made the decision to hold out until she’d passed all of her exams … the whole Lisa thing just ended up being swept along with it … I didn’t want to hurt her, she’s a really sweet girl … but Martha kept saying it was only for a month, just to get the pressure of her exams off her shoulders, and then we could finally come clean … So I stupidly went along with it … I accepted that people were going to get hurt, and I tried to keep it together … I did it for her … because I didn’t want to cause her anymore pain” he told him in sadness.

Kim slowly nodded, taking in every piece of information Jack was willing to give, but one thing still baffled him …

“What is this?” he asked softly, his face scrunched up through confusion.

“What do you mean?”

“This! … What is it?” he questioned them, “is it just a bit of fun? … Was the concept of being brother and sister so boring, that you just had to break the boundaries?”

“No, of course not,” replied Jack, a little hurt by his comment.

“Then what is it!?”

“We love each other” he replied in a soft voice; “it’s as simple as that”.

Kim remained silent, a little taken aback by Jacks revelation. He had honestly never expected them to be in love.

“I’ve been in love with her since I first laid eyes on her” Jack continued, “… I just, didn’t want to admit it. Well, that and the fact that she kept pushing me away” he rolled his eyes.

“Wow … I have to be honest … I thought that …” he shrugged.

“That what?” Jack interrupted, his face now in a frown. “That we were just fooling around?” he questioned him; noticing Kim suddenly fidget uncomfortably on the spot. “No, we’re not that cruel” he finally added; a hint of annoyance hindering his voice as he answered.

“Yeah, sorry” Kim muttered back. “Well, they do say you can’t help who you fall for” Kim tried to lighten the situation, “…but, you still did wrong by sneaking around”.

“I know” Jack lowered his head in sadness, a sigh escaping his lips as he took a breather, “Look” he continued on, “I know that you probably don’t understand this, and I know that we’ve done wrong … but, cant you just see it from our perspective, or, Martha’s at least … she loves her family so much … and because she’s adopted, she’s always got this fear at the back of her mind that they’re going to be taken away from her … that for whatever reason, she’ll get left behind and they wont want her anymore. And for her, this would be the perfect excuse for that to happen”.

“But Tony would never abandon her … it just wouldn’t happen, he adores her.”

“I know that, but, for some reason … Martha doesn’t … she’s scared and vulnerable … she’s already lost one family, she doesn’t want to lose another … So, she bottles it all up … she goes around pretending she’s an A star student, hides the fact that she’s having a secret love affair with her step brother, and puts on a brave face … doing her best to carry on with life” said Jack, as he neatly summed up Martha’s life.

“I don’t really know what to say Jack” Kim replied in a gentle tone. Inside he couldn’t help but feel his heart tear at his friend’s situation. “But you need to sort this out; you can’t let it go on for much longer”

“I know … and I will, I promise”.

“Good, do it when we get back … no more lying”.

He nodded in agreement.

“Thank you … for understanding”.

“Yeah well, I don’t accept what you’ve done, and I certainly won’t forgive you for betraying Tony and Lisa … but … a part of me can understand” Kim added carefully.

“Well, that’s something I guess”.

“Yeah … I guess it is” …
