Martha’s dazed brain started to clear. “Huh?” she murmured, looking up at the face. She saw the goofy features and brown hair of…

“ROBBIE!” she screamed, rolling over and falling off the bed with a thump. Massaging her shoulder, she looked up at Robbie. “Wha…wha…”

“You’re not Tasha,” he said slowly.

“Oh, congratuations on noticing!” she said sarcastically, wide awake now.

Suddenly realization hit his sleep-dazed face. “Martha!” he yelled, sitting up straight. “We…didn’t do anything, did we?”

“Of course not,” Martha said. “It’s not like we were drunk. We just slept in the same bed. Remember?”

“Oh yeah,” he said. “Sorry. I’m not a morning guy.”

Love their reactions!

Jack doesn't like the fact Martha slept in the same bed as Robbie but he flirts with another girl! That's worse.

I already said I hate Marcia. Well, I also hate Nicole and Jazz. Why do they want to make them break up? I want to know who they are.

I'm on Martha and Tasha's side! Go girls! :D

Please update soon.

Chapter 7

The café had stripy walls, mint green and white and red. The tables were round with little bar stools, and some hi-fi music was playing in the background. It was a nice scene, but Martha and Tasha were too annoyed at their boyfriends to enjoy it. They were seriously giving their boyfriends a telling-off.

“She’s only seventeen and you were getting so sucked in by her!” Martha snapped.

Jack looked bewildered and upset. “Well, she was nice!”

“You’re my boyfriend, you shouldn’t be flirting with random girls!”

“We weren’t flirting!”

“Oh yes you were!”

“Well, maybe she was, but just because I’m going out with you doesn’t mean that I can’t look at other girls…”

Martha gasped, enraged.

“I meant talk to! I MEANT TALK TO!” Jack yelled quickly, seeing how furious Martha was. Martha shook her head, grabbed the foamy caramel flavoured latte she had been sipping and flung the contents into Jack’s face.

He yelped as the hot coffee stung his skin. Martha stared stubbornly at him. The whole café was silenced, and Tasha and Robbie stopped their furious arguing. “What was that for?” Jack protested, wiping coffee out of his eyes.

Martha couldn’t say anything. She just stared at Jack, covered in latte, and found a smile pushing out from behind her pout. She put up her hand to cover it. She heard a giggle from Tasha, and it was like a fuse to a dynamite bomb. She burst out laughing, her chest aching. Tasha and Robbie started giggling as well. Jack sat there looking bewildered, until finally he cracked up too. It spread through the whole café.

“Sorry about that,” gasped Martha to a confused-looking waiter standing nearby. “I’m so sorry.”

“Hey guys!” said a chirpy voice. All four swivelled around. There was Nicole again. Martha boiled with fury.

“Hi!” Jack said in an unnaturally high voice.

“You don’t mind if I sit with you, do you?” Nicole said in her sweet little voice. “Everywhere else is full.”

“There’s an empty table over there,” Tasha said, pointing to a little table over the other side of the café.

“Yeah, but that’s just so lonely,” Nicole said. “I want…quality company.” She stared at Jack and ran her tongue along her bottom teeth.

Martha raised her eyebrows. “Well sorry, we don’t want non-quality company,” she shot back.

“Someone’s insecure,” Nicole said. “I expect you must always be, your boyfriend must constantly be looking at other girls, he probably can’t stand to look at you at all…”

With one swift movement both Martha and Tasha were on their feet, and with two swift movements Nicole was slapped across the face.

“You little…” screamed Nicole, and shoved them back.

“Whoa, whoa!” Jack said and quickly leaped between them. “What’s going on?”

“What’s going on is this little chick is trying to steal you from me!” Martha yelled.

“I am not!” Nicole said in a superbly innocent voice.

A fat guy in an apron waddled over. “What’s going on HERE?” he said in a threatening voice.

***

Martha, Tasha, Robbie and Jack all sat on cushy red couches at the wine bar, slinky music playing. Jack looked thoroughly irritated.

“I can never show my face in that café again,” he muttered.

“Well who’d want to go back there, it’d bring back memories of that bitch,” Tasha said, patting Martha’s knee.

“Look, she wasn’t that bad!” Jack said, turning to face the girls.

“Did you hear the way she talked to Martha?!” Tasha cried, jumping up to her friend’s defence.

“Well Martha started it,” Robbie put in.

They glared at each other. Boys versus girls.

“Nicole so wants you,” Martha said to Jack. “Do you blame me for being defensive?”

“Defensive, maybe, but you and Tasha fully slapped her!”

“And she deserved it,” Tasha said. “Thank God Jazz wasn’t there, you boys are just going so silly over them.”

“They’re nice, okay!?” Jack said.

“NICE!?” screeched Martha. Their ignorance was starting to REALLY annoy her. “This was meant to be a fun, romantic trip for us four, not us four and two flirts, one of whom isn’t even out of high school.”

“You don’t know that,” Jack said, looking a little uncomfortable.

“Have you looked at her?” Tasha put in. “She’s so young!”

“Not much younger than you,” Robbie said with raised eyebrows.

Tasha rolled her eyes. “Yeah, whatever. At least i’m out of school.”

“Anyway, I thought we were supposed to be together, forever,” Martha said to Jack. “Not fighting over Nicole.”

“We are together!” Jack said. “You’re…you’re not going to break up with me, are you?” He looked frightened, and Martha felt pleased. He didn’t want to lose her.

“No, of course not!” she said with a little laugh. “I’m just saying, don’t go near that girl again.”

“Yeah,” Jack said quietly. “Let’s get some wine.”

THE NEXT DAY:

Martha, Jack, Tasha and Robbie sat around a table having breakfast. Marianna entered the room and grinned. “Hey guys!” she said with her usual excitement.

“Hey,” four voices said in unison. Marianna sat down at their table.

“So, having a good time?” she asked.

“Erm…yeah, okay,” Martha said. She saw Marianna’s grinning face and felt bad that they weren’t telling her any of their problems. But still, she had more important things to worry about.

Marianna looked a little concerned. “I’d want it to be better than okay…”

“Oh, we just stayed up late last night at the bar, we’re a bit listless,” Robbie put in.

“Well,” Marianna said, leaning forward, “the customer situation is a bit better, we’ve got two new customers and they are staying in the most expensive suites we have, AND for quite a while, this has given us just a bit of extra money which we needed. Marcia seems pretty happy.”

“Great!” Jack said. “Who are they?”

“Jazz Curtis and Nicole Franklin,” Marianna said. “They’re a pretty odd couple, Nicole seems very young and blonde and Jazz very mature and brunette. I can’t work out whether they’re being friendly or patronizing or both. Oh look, here they come.”

Martha and Tasha exchanged despairing looks. Jack and Robbie craned their necks to see the two young women stepping down the stairs. There was something about the way both of them walked – this sexy, confident way, sweetly cute and innocent but just reeking of “Come get me”. Martha could see why Jack was falling over himself about Nicole, but still, she was so young. And hell, Jack was her boyfriend of six months. Surely he was committed enough to only be looking at Martha.

“Hey guys!” Jazz said. She was wearing a very low singlet and tiny little shorts. Robbie choked on his orange juice and Tasha banged him on the back – rather harder than necessary.

Nicole waved with a little smile on her face. “I see we’ve all gotten over the café incident…Let’s just put it all behind us, shall we?”

“What?” Marianna asked.

“Nothing,” Martha and Tasha said very quickly. The last thing they needed was for Marianna to get involved in all this.

“Um…okay,” Marianna said. She stood up and brushed some croissant crumbs off her skirt. “Well, I’ll leave you guys to talk, I’ve got some paperwork to do.” She walked off.

Once she was out of earshot Martha stood up quickly.

“What’s your game, girls?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Jazz began.

Tasha looked sour. “Oh yeah right,” she spat. “Why are you staying here?”

“Whoa, girls!” Robbie said, quickly standing between the two sides. “We don’t want another fight.”

“I do,” muttered Martha resentfully.

MARCIA’S OFFICE:

That night at eight o’ clock Jazz and Nicole sat in Marcia’s little office. It led off to her ensuite bathroom and bedroom, and was full of leather furniture and a heater that buzzed and gave off a burning smell. Marcia poured the wine, her earrings glinting in the light.

“Thanks,” Jazz said, taking a glass and gulping it.

Nicole looked bored and leaned back, flicking her sunglasses up on to her blonde hair. She reached out her hand for a glass. “Aren’t you a bit young to drink?” Marcia asked, eyeing her.

“Hey, I’m seventeen,” Nicole said indignantly. “I can have a glass if I want.”

“Well, be it on your head,” Marcia said, handing her the wine. “But only one glass.”

“Yes ma’am,” Nicole said, rolling her eyes. “Tell me, when did you leave the army?”

“I won’t have any of that,” Marcia said. “Remember, we’re working together.”

“I sooo want Robbie,” Jazz said with her lips pursed.

“Doesn’t seem your type,” Nicole said, taking a sip of wine.

“Ohh, he’s totally hot, even with the glasses,” Jazz said, leaning back. “Though Jack is pretty yummy.”

“Duh!” Nicole replied. “I so want him.”

“If we’re finished with the Jack/Robbie fan club talk,” Marcia said icily, “I’d just like to congratulate you all for doing so well.

“Yeah,” Nicole said thoughtfully. “What is it that you have against those girls anyway, Marcia?”

“Well, it’s more against Marianna, if you know what I mean,” Marcia said, stirring her drink.

“Whatever,” Jazz replied. “If this works out me and Nicole will get Robbie and Jack, and you’ll get whatever you want, Marcia.”

“We’ll all be happy,” Nicole added.

Jack and Robbie'd better not talk to those b****** again.

:o Martha poured her hot latte on Jack.

That was so mean! Nicole deserved to be slapped. Go Martha and Tasha!!!

“Yeah,” Nicole said thoughtfully. “What is it that you have against those girls anyway, Marcia?”

“Well, it’s more against Marianna, if you know what I mean,” Marcia said, stirring her drink.

If Marcia has a problem with Marianna, why is she taking it out on Martha and Tasha? I hate her! Scratch that, I hate them!

More please.
