‘Belle, have you seen Aden?’ Roman asked, concern beginning to etch itself across his face.

‘No, why?’ she asked. She hadn’t seen Aden all day but she hadn’t been too concerned because she had run into Justin earlier and he had told her about their fight. From past experiences Belle knew that whenever Aden was angry he just needed to be alone for a while.

‘His shift was meant to start 45 minutes ago and I know Aden’s always late….but he’s never THAT late.’

A shadow of worry passed across Belle’s face as she realised what Roman was getting at. Aden was notoriously late for everything, but he was also incredibly reliable. He was late but he turned up without fail within the first 15 minutes of every shift and he hadn’t missed a single shift since he started working at the Diner. She was about to speak when Justin came rushing in.

‘Have you seen Aden?’ he asked breathlessly.

‘No mate, we were just saying he hasn’t come in for his shift yet.’ Roman replied, as real worry began to set in.

Justin groaned, ‘It’s just, I’m really worried about him because that storm is coming in fast, I have no idea where he is and he’s not answering his phone….although that may just be that he’s ignoring me…’ he sighed, running a hand through his hair which was damp from having been caught in the rain outside.

‘I’ll try,’ Belle said. ‘If you’re right, then at least he’ll talk to me.’

She called his mobile and after it rang a few times Aden picked up. She breathed a sigh of relief but it was short live. All she could hear down the phone was ragged, painful breathing.

‘Aden?’ she asked, looking up in fear at Roman and Justin. ‘Aden, is that you?’

‘Belle…..aaargh,’ he let out a cry of pain.

‘Aden are you alright? Where are you??’ Belle questioned him frantically. She was so scared. Why was he in pain?

‘Don’t…know…hurts…’ the pain was evident in his voice, straining it and tears began to force their way from Belle’s eyes. The love of her life was out in the middle of a storm, in pain and she had no idea where he was. She had never felt so helpless in her life.

‘What can you see Aden?’ Belle demanded. ‘Tell me what you can see.’

‘Don’t know…blurry….trees?...green….’ and then there was another cry of pain, a thud and the line went dead.

‘Aden!! Aden!!’ Belle pretty much yelled down the phone.

‘Belle, what’s going on? Tell me what’s wrong!’ Justin demanded to know.

She was barely able to look at him, ‘He’s in pain and he doesn’t know where he is.’ She forced herself to look at him and Roman and the tear began to run more freely now until they ran rivers down her face.

‘Belle, this is important. Did he say anything, ANYTHING that could give you an idea as to where he was?’ Roman asked, immediately going into SAS mode.

‘Trees! He said he saw trees!! And green!! And when he was moving I heard branches and stuff break under his feet, I think he’s somewhere in the bush!’

Roman groaned, ‘Well that narrows it down.’

‘Hang on,’ Justin said fearfully. ‘What dyou mean, when he WAS moving?’

Belle gulped, ‘I think he just collapsed.’
