Chapter 13

Nicole woke up with the sound of her phone ringing. She looked at who was calling her an cancelled the call. It was them again! She wanted to get an early start to the day so she decided to get up and start getting in contact with people for the dinner party. After taking a shower and deciding what to wear, she went into the office and decided to arrange the sitting.

“Hm… Belle and Aden sit together there. Mattie and Ric sitting there. Amanda and dad there. Irene and Leah there. That leaves me and Drew sitting together…That should be interesting” Nicole said to herself.

Nicole finished the seating arrangements. She decided to call Irene and Leah and they both agreed to come. That left Drew. She decided she would do it in person instead. There was a knock on the door. Roman walked into the room with a cup of tea for Nicole. He placed it on a coaster.

“Thanks” Nicole said looking up and smiling.

“You look like a professional businesswoman behind that desk, you know that?” Roman laughed.

“At 17, I really not looking for the “professional businesswoman” look right now” Nicole replied. “But thanks. This dinner really does mean a lot to me so I would like too make it as best as I can”

“Have you got the menu then?” Roman asked.

“Yep, here you go” Nicole smiled as she handed the Roman the menu.

“Ah! A salad for someone I see.” he laughed.

“Yeah, salad and I have meat on the menu also. So, people can pick when they arrive. Irene and Leah both agreed to come also. I just called them at the diner.” Nicole said.

“Great! Sounds like this will be fun.” Roman replied. He took the menu and went to walk out the door.

“Eh, dad!” Nicole called.

Roman turned around. He walked back over too her and said “Everything ok?”

“I was just wondering could I go out for a bit…” Nicole asked.

“You know you are meant to be grounded, Nicole...” Roman started “…But, you did only go out and come back yesterday right away. As long as you are only gone for an hour. And I mean, one hour, ok?”

“Yes!” Nicole agreed “One hour. Better go and get ready” Nicole continued. She grabbed the tea and all the plans for the dinner and went upstairs. After doing her make-up and brushing her hair and teeth, she headed over to Drew’s house. She parked outside, not knowing what she would say too him. She walked up to the door, nervously and backed away. Just as she was heading back to her car after chickening out, the door opened.

“Nicole?”

Nicole turned around and Drew was standing at the door shirtless. She walked up to the door.

“What’s up? Why are you here?” Drew asked.

“Err, well…I‘m having a dinner on Friday night and just wondered if you would like to come or not…” Nicole said.

“Yeah, sure.” Drew replied.

“Great!” Nicole grinned. “See you then.”

“Yeah, see you then.” Drew smiled back and closed the door over.

Nicole walked back out to her car and got in. She drove over to the supermarket to pick up a few items she needed to buy for the dinner. After picking then up, she realised she only have 15 minutes to get home. She made her way back. Once she arrived home, she brought the food into the kitchen. Suddenly, her phone rang once again. She knew who it was so she didn’t answer it.

“Who was that on the phone?”

Nicole turned around. Belle had come into the kitchen. She was drying her hair after being for a swim in the pool.

“Oh...Err, I missed it” Nicole lied.

“Really?” Belle asked.

“Yes, I was in the living room.” Nicole lied again.

“Why do I get the feeling you are lying about this?” Belle asked.

“I‘m not Belle” Nicole stated and started unpacking the shopping she had got.

“Ok then, if you say so” Belle shrugged knowing Nicole wasn’t going to tell her anything. “What have you got there then?”

“Just some food for Friday.” Nicole smiled.

“Oh that reminds me, Ric and Mattie are able to come no problem.” Belle said.

“Great, thanks for letting me know.” Nicole answered

“I better go. Have to have a shower and go out. See you later” Belle smiled and walked out of the kitchen.

Belle collected Aden and then they went over to Ric’s house. Mattie was there and they were going to watch a movie. Aden looked nervous sitting in the passenger seat.

“You ok today?” Belle asked as she turned her head to see his sweaty palms.

“Yeah. I‘m good. Why would you ask that?” Aden laughed.

“You just seem nervous, that is all.” Belle answered.

“Well, I‘m okey dokey.” Aden laughed again.

For the rest of the journey, Belle was still worried about Aden and worried what was wrong with him. They arrived at Ric’s house. After Ric opened the door, they were to get the movie sorted out on the DVD.

“It‘s only new so it takes me ages to get it on” Ric laughed.

“Not the handyman then?” Belle laughed.

“Not when it comes to using DVD players. It‘s so complicated.” Ric grinned.

“Wow, Ric! You are so honest.” Belle smiled “What movie did you get out then?”

“Mean Girls, what else?” Ric said rolling his eyes.

“Well it is my favourite movie!” Mattie explained walking into the living room.

Aden’s eyes shot up. He looked at Mattie.

“Anyone want popcorn?” Aden asked standing up.

Both, Ric and Belle said yes. He grabbed Mattie by the arm and took her outside on the patio.

“Did you get my message?” Aden whispered.

“Yes, I did.” Mattie replied.

“Oh thank God! I was so worried!” Aden said with relief

“I think you made the wrong decision, though” Mattie said.

“Wrong decision on what exactly?”

Mattie and Aden turned around. Belle was standing at the door with her arms folded. Aden was speechless just like Mattie was. What were they going to say? How would they explain this?

Thank you all for the comments. :) Here is the next chapter. Just to let you know about the time frame here. Nicole arrived on a Tuesday. The party at Ric’s was on the Saturday. The beach party was on Monday. The dinner is too be on the Friday. So she has been in Summer Bay less than two weeks. Even though it may seem much longer. :) (I know it does too me, lol)

Chapter 14

“Are you going to explain what is going on?” Belle asked.

“Err..” Mattie started.

“It was something I got you, Belle. That’s all.” Aden said thinking of the first thing that came into his head.

“What? What are you on about?” Belle asked confused.

“Well, I got you a present and Mattie doesn‘t think it was a good idea…” Aden answered.

“Why not? What is this present?” Belle asked.

Mattie stood there not knowing where this was going. She waited for Aden to answer.

“It’s a surprise, Belle. You will have to wait and see.” Aden replied.

“Ok…” Belle said suspiciously.

“I promise, nothing to worry about, babe” Aden said as he walked over to Belle and kissed her on the forehead.

Aden went into the kitchen and started to make the popcorn that he and Mattie were going to make in the first place. Outside, Mattie smiled and walked past Belle. Belle grabbed her arm,

“You promise me that is what is going on? He got me something? Please don‘t lie to me, Mattie.” Belle begged.

“Yeah, he got you something.” Mattie replied. She felt so guilty. She didn’t know what too do.

Belle let her go and they both walked into the living room. Aden made the popcorn and gave some out to everyone. He sat down and they all watched the movie together. That was a close call, he thought. He would have to pick up something for Belle the next day, but what could he get her?

The next morning, Amanda had cooked the breakfast. Belle and Nicole both came down and they sat down to have a nice peaceful breakfast for once. Roman walked into the kitchen and sat down.

“How was the movie last night?” Roman asked.

“It was Mean Girls, of course. Seen it so many times. You know what happens.” Belle laughed.

“We never actually did see that one, did we?” Amanda asked Roman.

“Nah, should rent it out some time” Roman replied looking at his watch. “I have got to go.” he finished standing up.

“What? Why? Where are you going?” Nicole asked.

“Just have to…go somewhere. I will be back later on.” Roman kissed Amanda on the forehead.

“Ok, that was strange…” Belle said.

“Agreed! It looked like he couldn’t get out of here sooner…” Nicole replied. “Is everything ok with you guys, Amanda?”

“Yeah, everything is fine. He did look at his watch. Must have somewhere too do. You guys are two paranoid” Amanda laughed.

She stood up and cleared the table. Although she did think it was strange, she didn’t say anything to the girls. She would have to ask Roman if something was up when he came home. Belle and Nicole stood up and helped clear the table. Belle went outside while Nicole went into the study to finish off plans for the party.

“Thanks mate, that is great.” Roman smiled.

“Are you sure? I have more if you would like to take a look” a dark haired man said.

“No, that is prefect!” Roman replied.

The dark haired man got a bag. He handed the bag for Roman and Roman gave the man $750. He walked out and went to head home. He hoped nobody had seen him and what he was doing there.

Aden got into his car and drove to Yabbie Creek. He needed to think fast. What was he going to get Belle? He drove around looking at all the shops. He parked the car and got out. He decided on jewellery. Diamonds are a girls best friend, or so Ric had suggested when Aden rang him that morning. Walking across the street, he saw Roman coming out of the supermarket.

“Hey mate, what you doing here this early?” Roman asked.

“Ah, getting a few things for my dad” Aden lied.

“How is your dad doing? You know, since he started drinking again?” Roman asked.

“He is doing good. Going to his meetings, everything is working out well for him.” Aden said.

“That is great to hear. Listen, I have to head off now. Talk to you later. You will be around the house later, I‘m guessing?” Roman asked.

“Ah yeah, have to give something to Belle.” Aden smiled.

“Ok, talk soon then.”

Roman walked off to his car. Aden walked into the supermarket. After he made sure Roman was not around, he went down into the jewellers. After looking around, he knew exactly what to get her. Even though this was just a cover up story with his conversation with Mattie, he knew that he wanted to get her something really special because he did love her greatly.

After heading back to Summer Bay, Aden called into Ric’s. He walked into the house and sat down.

“Well? What did you get in the end?” Ric asked.

“This…” Aden replied and handed him the box.

“Wow! Its gorgeous, Aden” Mattie said looking over Ric’s shoulder.

“I still don‘t understand why you are getting her something…”Ric said.

“It‘s complicated. Can we just agree with the story I said this morning? Please?” Aden begged.

“Yes, we can. You got this yesterday. Mattie thought that it was a bad idea because she thought it may be moving too fast. Got it” Ric answered.

“Great, well I getter head off to Belle‘s now.” Aden said grabbing the box.

“Yeah, see you later mate” Ric said opening the door.

“Goodbye Aden” Mattie smiled. “Good luck!”

“Later guys!” Aden shouted before getting into his car.

He headed over to Belle’s not know what he would say when he opened the box.
