I swear to god that everytime I read a chapter of this story my cheeks hurt afterwards from the constant smiling. Aden and Belle just get more and more adorable everytime. Glad you added Amanda. She is my favourite female character second only to Belle.

Here's the next chapter, sorry it took so long!

And thanks to everyone who comments, you all keep me motivated to keep writing more :)

Chapter 29.

The rain had subsided, and it was now late in the evening as a group of people sat in Irene lounge room, waiting for someone to break the awkward silence. Aden sat behind Belle fiddling his fingers, unsure what to do or say. Irene was busy making coffee in the kitchen, and Oliver and Ryan were playing with some toy trucks on the ground.

“It’s not that I’m not happy to see you, I am, but what are you doing here?” Belle asked her mother who was watching Oliver and Ryan play.

Amanda looked up and smiled, “Well it’s been so long since I’ve seen you, I’ve missed you, and so has Ryan and Pete. Peter couldn’t make it, he’s staying in the city with Drew.”

“Right” Belle responded, remembering that Drew had called Irene to warn her about Dom’s reappearance.

“You still haven’t been up to visit yet” Amanda reminded her.

“Yeah, I know, everything has been so crazy lately…I’ve got a new job and yeah, it’s been full on”

“So, are you going to properly introduce me to your friend?” Amanda asked, gesturing at Aden.

“Oh, yeah, right, sorry, this is Aden, I used to work with him at the Diner…”

“Just workmates?”

“Well, a bit more than that” Belle said, smiling as she looked back at Aden.

“Ahh, I see, well that’s great honey, as long as you’re happy”

“We’re very happy, thanks” Aden said, speaking for the first time, unsure how he was supposed to address his girlfriend’s mother, who was none other than the infamous Amanda Vale.

“So, you work at the Diner full time?” Amanda asked, trying to make small talk.

Aden grinned, realizing where she was going with this, “No, it’s just a part time gig, I’m still in school”

“Really?” Amanda asked, raising her eyebrows.

“Yeah, I’m repeating year 12, it’s a long story…” Aden replied, trying to keep a civil tongue.

“I see” Amanda replied, as she turned to Belle, grinning slightly.

“Yeah, Belle and I went to school together last year”

“I don’t remember her ever mentioning you before”

“Well we weren’t exactly close then”

“A lot has changed since you’ve left” Belle piped in.

“I’ve noticed” Amanda replied, continuing to eye Aden suspiciously.

“So, what are you planning on doing after you finish school?” she asked Aden.

“What is this 20 questions? Will you leave the poor boy alone!” Belle exclaimed as she playfully nudged Aden, who looked quite relieved he didn’t have to answer her questioning.

“I’m sorry, I just want to know about what’s going on with you, I feel like I’ve let you down by not being around all this time”

“That’s not true, you’re doing the best you can” Belle assured her.

The conversation soon took off after Irene joined them, Belle describing her new job and Amanda going on about her new business and Ryan’s obnoxious school teacher. Aden retreated to the dining room table, who was quite happy to have an excuse to be dismissed from the conversation to help Annie with her math homework.

“Well it’s getting late, we should probably get going, Leah is expecting us. We’ll drop by tomorrow, we can do lunch.” Amanda said as she collected her handbag from the coffee table and put on her coat, brushing off the remaining droplets of rain.

“Bye, See ya Ryan” Belle said as waved goodbye to her half brother.

“That was…” Irene began.

“relatively painless?” Belle suggested.

“I was going to say unexpected, but yeah, you could say that.” Irene finished.

“I still don’t know why she showed up here, out of the blue, she must want something…”Belle continued as she got up and sat on the edge of Aden’s chair, leaning over his shoulder to see what he was doing.

“Maybe she just wanted to see you, she is your mother” Aden suggested as he put his arm around her to support her.

“Yeah, maybe, but why now? There’s something up with her, I just can’t put my finger on it”

It had been a long day, after working at the photography shop all day, and then working the evening shift at the Diner, and finally her mother showing up, out of the blue wanting to spend time with her, Belle was thoroughly exhausted. After having a quick shower and getting dressed, she climbed into bed and snuggled up to Aden, who was already lying in bed.

“You smell like strawberries” Belle remarked as hugged him, resting her head on his chest.

“Hmmm yeah, I think it’s time you invested in some new shower gels, or at least something that doesn’t make me smell like a 12 year old girl…”

Belle snorted, but fell short of making a witty remark. Aden looked down at her, studying her distracted expression, she looked as if she were a million miles away.

“If it’s bothering you that much, why do you just come out straight and ask her?” Aden asked, as he wrapped his arms around her, protectively.

“I just don’t understand the sudden interest in my life, she didn’t have a problem with packing up and leaving, and now it’s like she’s got the guilts, it’s just weird”

“What? That your mum wants to spend time with you, yeah that’s totally weird!”

“Hey, don’t make fun of me!” Belle retorted, nudging him in the chest.

“I just think that you’re over reacting… look if you don’t want to have lunch with her tomorrow, ditch her and hang with me, I’m sure I can keep you entertained” Aden said, as he kissed her neck softly.

“That’s not a bad idea…” Belle replied as she reciprocated his kiss, rolling over. “But she has come all this way…”

“Well my offer still stands, if you change your mind, or any other time you want…”

“That’s a very generous offer” Belle said, as she kissed him again.

“Well it just so happens that I’m a very generous boyfriend”

“I’ve noticed” Belle responded, “…actually I think I will take you up on that offer”

“What? Now?” Aden asked, grinning slightly.

“No, tomorrow at lunch with Mum… and not the kind of entertaining you have in mind” she added as she caught the perplexed look on Aden face.

“You want me to come with you to lunch, with your mother?” Aden asked, slightly put off by the idea.

“Yeah” Belle replied, smiling, “you’ll come for me, please?” she asked, putting on her best, pretty please smile.

Aden smiled, giving in, “Fine, but I will draw the line, any kind of flirtation coming from that woman, she pulls any funny business and I’m outta there, I know what your mother is like, no offence”

“None taken, but I don’t think she’s stupid enough to pull something like that again…but thank you, for coming, it means a lot to me”

“Well you mean a lot to me, Belle” Aden replied as he pulled her closer.

“And plus, that smile of yours, it kills me, every time”
