It's tough being in the cast of the seaside-set soap Home and Away. There's the laborious duty of filming deep and meaningful scenes that always seem to take place on long walks along Sydney's pristine Palm Beach, which fills in for the shows fictional Summer Bay. There are the publicity gigs such as today's, lolling on the grass during an unseasonlly warm winter sunset at a scenic harbourside location. And then there is the canoodling. Lots and lots and lots of canoodling, due to the soap's rampant co-mingling of characters. "We had to get over personal space issues pretty quickly," says Coleby, who plays diner owner Roman. Which means they don't need much prompting to get into character. Endless limbs entwine, casually tousled locks flow and taut pecs are flashed as Home and Away's finest discuss the cons of the job. "Girls," says O'Brien, who plays policeman Jack. "You have to snog 'em and stuff." Chimes in Gordon, who plays Jack's (current) love interest, Martha, "He tells them in an interview that I use my tongue and I don't." Newest Home recruit Anderson, who plays cop Charlie, teases Lasance about a kiss his character, Aden had the night before: "It was all slow!" "I can't help it," says Lasance, who does pushups between shots. "You're doing a natural kissing thing." Coleby struggles to get his shirt over his he-man biceps, then the companionable quintet plan a post-shoot trip to the nearest pub. Just another tough day at the office.
