Firstly, thank you to everyone for their concern. I'm feeling better today

I've written the other part of what should have been teh last chapter, I hope you like it.

Chapter 27

“Don't mess with him Nic!”

Belle's voice was calm, almost unnaturally so. The warning not concealed, or even softened.

“I've no intention of messing with Geoff, I've never met anyone like him before...sometimes I think he's too good for me.”

Belle observed the younger girl, there was little doubt that she meant what she was saying – for now at least. There was the crunch though, Nic's previous behaviour was suspect to say the very least.

“Listen to me and listen carefully Nic, start jerking Geoff around and you'll be dealing with me. You've set him up before; kissing lessons, practical jokes, not to mention the photo-shopped picture on the school notice board that got him grounded and suspended. I don't want to see him made a fool of like that again.

Nicole could understand Belle's distrust, but it didn't mean that she wouldn't defend herself.

“I know I've done some dumb things, but there is more to me than just that! It's not like I'm the only person with a past...is it Belle? You've not exactly been little miss perfect!”

Belle acknowledged the truth of that openly, she wasn't proud of her past but it had shaped the person she was now.

“That's a fair point and I know that the past isn't the sum total of a person, people change. All I'm saying is...”

“Play fair?”

Belle grinned, there was a cheeky side to Nic that she seriously identified with.

“Got it in one! Now where have the boys got to?”

Nic rolled her eyes and made herself comfortable.

“They'll be taking their own sweet time, Geoff probably giving Aden the same talk you've just given me.”

The older girl laughed openly, she was actually enjoying spending time with Nic. Since Mattie had left for uni she'd been pretty isolated.

“Could be, or Aden could be doing his relationship guidance thing again. Something along the lines of 'Yes Geoff, when a girl kisses you in front of her dad it's a pretty good indication that she likes you.'. I swear that Aden is headed to become a surrogate big brother to Geoff, which is hilarious given that they used to hate each other.”

Nic smiled at the image of Aden giving relationship advice.

“I can believe that Aden would try to help, he'd kinda adopted me as a sister. Actually, I think he'd make a pretty good councillor. When he's not being a mickey taking jerk he's really easy to talk to.”

Belle had to agree, the same though had crossed her mind. Aden had been pretty tight lipped about what he wanted to do, with everything that had been happening she hadn't really tried to find out either.

Whilst the girls had been discussing the boys, the boys had been discussing the girls. The whole 'don't you hurt her' talk had already been implied in both directions and as such wasn't required. Instead, the conversation had turned to more practical matters. Geoff was panicking...again...about actually going out with Nic. By the time he'd stopped hyperventilating about how his religious beliefs would contrast Nic's city up-bringing, Aden was embarrassed on his behalf and just wanted to get back to the girls.

“Geoff!”

“GEOFF!!”

Aden raised his voice when the first attempt failed.

“What?”

“You need to calm down, Nic is a girl not an alien – although it's safe to say that there are times when females may as well be from a different planet. You need to talk to her, get to know her views and tell her yours. Chances are, you'll find your way to a mid-ground.”

Aden wondered again how he kept finding himself in the position of relationship confidant, it wasn't as if he was in the best position to give advice. A fact eloquently showcased by his freak-out earlier on, he really hoped that Belle wouldn't give up on him.

“I wish I had your confidence with girls!”

Aden's head whipped round so fast he almost lost his balance, he could not believe what he'd just heard.

“Geoff, you've managed to nab yourself one of the hottest girls in town! I really don't think 'confidence' needs to be an issue, other than the self-confidence to tell her the truth. I can't believe we're actually having this conversation.”

Geoff laughed at that.

“At least we're both sober and there isn't an open car boot around.”

Aden blushed scarlet.

“Not my finest moment...to say the least! It was however, very funny at the time.”

“Oi! Speak for yourself...I did not find it funny.”

They were still discussing the humour merits of past misdeeds as they rounded the corner, to find Belle and Nicole looking too innocent. Aden and Geoff looked at each other nervously...
