I seem's I've stirred up some curiosity again :D

Here's the next bit.

Chapter 29

Nicole was sat on the couch, her face frozen with shock.

“What on earth are you doing here?”

This was her nightmare come to life, her mother wanting her back. She couldn't do it, she couldn't go back to the city.

“Now come on Nicole, don't be silly! You've had plenty of time to come to your senses, I'm here to take you home.”

Nicole was still sat, rooted in place. She was shaking her head in denial and looking at the floor. Belle assessed the situation rapidly and took charge.

“Nic, I think you should go to your room. I'll call your dad!”

Nic gave her a grateful smile and vanished, Belle heard the door close followed by the snick of the lock.

“If you'd care to sit down Ms Franklin, I'll call Roman – I'm sure he'll want to discuss matters with you.”

Belle didn't give her a chance to argue, she picked up her mobile and the house phone and took both into the kitchen. A text to Aden told the guys to head back asap, the call to Roman followed – but was very short.

“Ms Franklin? Roman is on his way and will be here shortly.”

Nicole's mother regarded the young woman in front of her with analytical cool, what was the best way to get her on side?

“I've travelled a considerable distance Miss...?”

“Taylor”

Belle supplied the answer without giving her first name, friendly was not yet on the agenda.

“Miss Taylor, I just want to talk to my daughter. I've neither seen nor spoken to her for a considerable period of time – not since she left home – would you call her for me? Please?”

Belle sat down in a nearby chair, se didn't quite believe the act of the woman in front if her.

“With all due respect, I think Nic is better where she is...at least until her father arrives.”

There was noise outside the door, Belle guessed it was the guys arriving home. She went to the door and opened it, silencing both with a single gesture.

“Nic is in her room, I think she would appreciate your company Geoff. Roman is on his way, he should be here in a few minutes. Aden, hold your cool...and your tongue!”

Her words had been too quiet for their guest to here, she stepped back to allow Geoff and Aden entrance.

“Morning ma'am.”

Geoff offered the greeting and ran up the stairs, Nic opened her door and threw herself into his arms as soon as he identified himself. She buried her face in his neck, sobbing quietly in his arms. She wasn't moving, so Geoff picked her up and carried her to the bed – sitting down with her cradled in his arms. He held her as she cried.

Meanwhile, Belle had introduced Aden to Nicole's mother. His manners had been so perfect, so precise, that they could have cut through steel. Better than the alternative in Belle's opinion, but still... Another sound alerted Belle to the arrival of someone else, those footsteps could only belong to Roman. He rushed into the house and dropped his bag.

“Belle, where's Nic?”

“She's in her room, Geoff is with her. I thought it best for her to be there until you got here.”

Roman relaxed a bit, Belle had a good head on her shoulders and a nose for trouble. She'd instinctively tried to protect Nic, something for which he was grateful.

“An explanation for your presence would be a good idea right now Natalie.”

Natalie cringed, she hated her 'Sunday best' name! Surely Nic couldn't have told Roman what had happened? No way, she wouldn't risk it.

“I'm here to take my daughter home.”

Roman held his position, years of military discipline coming to his aid.

“My daughter is home, you kicked her out and she came to me. Her life is here, so are her friends. You had your chance to protect her, you blew it.”

Natalie was starting to suspect that Nic HAD told Roman about the stuff that had happened, attack was the best form of defence.

“Nicole went off the rails a little, got involved with the wrong people. She earned herself a bad reputation, it was better that she spend some time away to sort herself out.”

Roman wasn't buying that for a second!

“Nic told me what happened, about being abducted, about the unwanted attentions of your...friend. I don't know how you let that happen, or why you didn't tell me – although I can guess – but she's with me now. She's staying here!”

Colour swept up Natalie's neck, she needed her daughter back in the city!

“She's my daughter Roman, I've looked after her all these years. All the years when you couldn't have cared less.”

He couldn't believe what her was hearing, how she was skewing the truth. Looking up, he noticed Belle and Aden still stood there.

“Guys, do you two want to head upstairs? Tell Nic I'll call her when I want her to come down?”

They nodded.

“Sure thing Roman, we'll either be in my room or Nic's if we're wanted.”

Aden took Belle's hand and led her upstairs. Roman turned his attention back to the woman in his living room.

“Now I want the truth!”

Natalie dropped her head, she had to find a way out of this.

“The truth is simple, I want my daughter back home where she belongs. She's been here long enough to see the error of her ways...”

“The error of her ways?”

Roman's repetition of the last statement was returned with thunderous calm, the tension palpable.

“Which errors would they be? Not reciprocating the attentions of a much older man? Not sleeping with him? Not being able to cope with your social life in the aftermath of a trauma? Nic needed protecting and defending, you did neither! She doesn't want to go back to the city with you, I don't want her to leave. Wither way, you lose!”

Natalie looked at her former partner, she had never seen him like this. She stood up to leave.

“Nicole will be returning to the city with me, come hell or high water! Try to prevent it, I promise you will live to regret it!”

With that parting shot, she walked out of the house – allowing the door to slam in her wake.

Lol ok that's fine!

I'll be waiting though! Monday's my first set of lectures of the new year, so I'm going to need something to look forward to!

that was great, Romans such a caring dad :wub:

not much liking Natalie though... to quote my history teacher.. "here comes trouble..."
