I'm Back :D

The last few weeks have been hell, but I'm recovered and I have another chapter for you - I used to pm a couple of people when I updated but I've forgotten who they were so if they could remind me I'll start pming them again.

Here we are, I hope you enjoy!

Chapter 32

Belle and Aden were sat on the couch, Belle once again curled up with her head on Aden's chest and his arm wrapped around her. It was clear that Geoff's question was still rattling him, she knew he'd asked himself the same question a thousand times. Geoff's question...what was there to say about it? Talk about a bolt from the blue, for a while no-one had known what to say. It had been Nicole who had stepped in at that point, hauling Geoff upstairs. Belle hoped that by the time they emerged from Nic's room, Geoff would have a slightly better grounding in real life...or at least subtlety!

“I can't believe he asked me that!”

Belle looked up at Aden's face, he had his eyes closed and his head back against the couch.

“I can! Geoff and Annie have been incredibly sheltered, the big bad world is still shocking to them. You were lucky really, all things considered.”

“You want to tell me how you figure that?”

The quick grin that flashed across her face ought to have warned him.

“At least he didn't ask you about the mechanics...Hey! Give-up!”

Belle covered her head with one arm as Aden attacked her with a cushion. She wriggled and squirmed, eventually making her escape to stand – giggling – across the table from him.

“I so can't believe you just said that!”

“It was a very real possibility though! To be honest I'm a little surprised at how well he's handled everything that's happened; the threats to us, not to mention the nightmare that Nic's been through. I thought he'd have freaked out long ago.”

Aden looked at her, his expression a little rueful.

“So...indiscretion is better than a continuation of 'ostrich syndrome' and it's definitely better than going mental?”

Belle started to laugh again, her guy said the craziest things!

“What!? What was so funny?”

She tried to smother her laughs and failed...badly!

“You!”

Aden shot Belle a look that could only be be described as baleful but she wasn't fooled, he couldn't hide the laughter in his eyes.

“Okay , okay, you can stop laughing whenever you want...it wasn't that funny! Come one Belle, there's sheltered and there's naive to a degree that's beyond belief. Bible boy is the latter, no questions asked!”

Belle moved back across the room to where Aden was standing and wrapped her arms around his waist, leaning into him.

“You're not wrong, even now he's incredibly naive. Sometimes I wish I could have some of that naivety back, I can't remember ever being that innocent.”

Aden rubbed his cheek against her hair, he couldn't agree with her more.

Roman returned home to find Belle and Aden wrapped what appeared to be a complicated heap watching a movie, there was no sign of Geoff or Nic.

“Guys, where's Nic?”

Belle and Aden looked up, neither had heard Roman enter.

“I'm here dad, you told us to stay put 'till you saw mom.”

Nic was half-way down the stairs with Geoff just behind her, she was curious about what had been said between her parents but scared about what the truth might be.

“Come on downstairs and sit down Nic, I need to talk to you about my chat with your mom. You mightn't want anyone else here though, it's up to you.”

Nic thought about what had already passed that afternoon, the time for secrets was long since gone.

“It's ok dad, we all seem to be inexhorably wrapped in each others nightmares and secrets have only caused problems.”

Roman looked at his daughter; with the tough, city-girl veneer gone he realised that he was seeing the real Nicole for the first time. Geoff nabbed a chair and invited Nic to share, his eyes met Aden's briefly and he looked away – his discomfiture obvious. Roman caught the look, guessing what it meant.

“Anything I need to know about?”

Geoff turned scarlet than white, realising that Roman had seen the look between himself and Aden – he'd also seen that Geoff was uncomfortable.

“Um...no...I don't think so.”

Geoff was hedging – badly!

“He knows about me Roman, that's all. He's not dealing too well.”

Aden stated the truth without expression, fighting not to make Geoff's reaction an issue.

“Gee, thanks Aden! Way to make me look like a real idiot! Just because I seriously didn't think that...”

“That's enough Geoff!”

Roman's tone brooked no argument, Geoff stopped talking.

“It must have taken a lot of guts for Aden to share that information with you, I expect you to treat that confidence with the respect it deserves. As for Aden telling me what had happened, I'm glad he felt he could – not to mention that there's enough mystery at the moment without adding more to it!”

Roman made himself as comfortable as possible in his chair, he was not looking forward to the up-coming conversation.

That evening, Geoff and Nic were walking on the beach. There had been very little conversation between them, not after the bombshell that Roman had dropped hours earlier. Eventually Nic broke the silence.

“I can't believe she did that! Ah hell, yes I can...I just don't want to! What kind of mother does that? Gives her agreement for her teenage daughter to marry a man old enough to be her father? I knew she was bad, but this?”

Geoff wrapped his arm around her more tightly, wanting to give comfort but not knowing what to say.

“I'm glad your here Geoff, I'm glad you don't hate me for this.”

Geoff dropped a kiss on her hair, battling with feelings that were running wild.

“I couldn't hate you for this, it's not your fault – the responsibility is with you mother and her friends.”

Nic smiled, he'd given her the opening she'd been waiting for.

“And what happened to Aden wasn't his fault either, the responsibility for that rests with his father and grandfather. Aden was a child.”

Geoff blushed and grimaced.

“Point taken Nic, I'll apologise in the morning.”

She smiled again and stopped walking, turning to face him.

“What did I do to get so lucky?”

Before Geoff could answer, she kissed him. It was a kiss that said everything that she couldn't put into words...it stole his breath and melted any thought of restraint – they needed this.

Aw! Yay, I'm so glad you updated! Was totally worth the wait! :D

Poor Aden. I guess Geoff really did have a sheltered life, but as Aden said, there's a thin line between being sheltered and naive. Am so glad that it was [kind of] resolved.

Loved the Adelle scenes, naturally. They're so cute!

Nicole and Geoff are sweet. I can't believe that Nat would do something like that!

Roman getting all authorative on Geoff was awesome.

Basically, I love love loved it! Cannot wait for more!
