Chapter 17 – I’m free

Aden hadn’t slept a wink that night. Irene had kindly allowed him to stop over at the Beach House for the night, sleeping in Belle’s room but it wasn’t the same without Belle there beside him. He sat on the edge of the small bed and saw a picture frame on the night table. He picked it up and saw Belle and him standing together on the beach. Aden was wearing just a pair of red swim shorts whilst Belle was wearing a light blue bikini and white mini skirt. He smiled to himself as he ran his finger across the picture frame, reminding himself of the happier times

“Aden” Irene said, distracting Aden from his thoughts as she entered the room and handed Aden a cup of coffee “here you are Darl”

“Thanks” Aden said, smiling weakly at Irene before his tone became more serious “Any news from the cops”

“Sorry, no news yet” Irene said, shaking her head

Aden slammed the coffee cup on the nightstand, a little bit of the hot liquid spilling over the top, before leaping up of the bed and storming out of the bedroom, bumping shoulders with Irene as he did

“Hold up Aden, what are you doing” Irene shouted, as she grabbed him by the shoulder and turned him around to face her

“I’m going out there to look for Drew, and when I find him, I am going to kill him. I’m sick of waiting around, I can’t sit here and do nothing anymore” Aden replied, clenching his firsts tightly as he turned away from Irene and raced down the stairs before storming out of the house, slamming the door as he did so

Irene shook her head, which is all she could do. She felt the tears welling up in her eyes but she quickly stopped them from falling when she heard Geoff and Annie call her name

“Irene” Geoff said “Any news on Belle”

“Sorry love, not yet” Irene replied

“Will we ever see Belle again” Annie asked, the tears rolling down her eyes

“Of course we will, Annie” Irene said, bringing both Geoff and Annie in for a 3 way hug “Belle is a strong, determined girl, she wont give up without a fight. We will find her, don’t worry”

The large metal door opened and Belle’s tear stained face looked up at the dark figure that had just walked into the room

Drew walked over to Belle and leant down besides her, brushing some hair away from her face and behind her ear. Belle shuffled away from him and wrapped her arms around herself even tighter

Drew felt a sudden sadness come over him as he watched Belle move away from him, her eyes filled with fear

“I don’t want it to be this way Belle” Drew admitted

Belle just looked up at Drew, her eyes filled with tears. She tried to speak but she couldn’t

“Belle, please” Drew said, as he stood up and stood over Belle

Belle remained silent, just watching his every move. Drew could feel the anger built up inside him as he grabbed Belle’s arm and forced her to her feet

“Why do you have to make this so difficult Belle” Drew shouted, as Belle tried desperately to wriggle out of Drew’s grip

“Drew, let go of me” Belle demanded, as she drove her knee into Drew’s groin. Drew instantly fell to the ground in pain and Belle realised this was her chance. She ran as fast as her feet could carry her, running out of the room, out of the building and running into the vast forest that stood ahead of her

Belle had been running for what seemed like hours. Her feet hurt, she was thirsty, she was hungry, she was tired, she was scared. She didn’t want to stop running because she didn’t know where Drew was, but the pain in her feet was too strong. She leant up against a tree and suddenly remembered she had her mobile phone in her jacket

She pulled out the small electronic device and typed in Aden’s number, praying to herself that someone would answer as the mobile phone rang

“Belle” Aden said, praying to himself that it would be her voice on the other end of the line

“Please help me Aden, I…I don’t know what to do, I don’t know where Drew is” Belle said, crying into the phone

“Belle, calm down. I will find you, just tell me where you are” Aden replied

“I don’t know. I can just see trees. I can hear running water but” Belle said, before the phone connection suddenly went dead

“BELLE, BELLE” Aden shouted down the phone, but there was no reply

“ADEN” Belle shouted down the phone, tears rolling down her eyes. She looked at her phone and saw that the battery on it was dead.

“No, no, no” Belle cried, throwing the phone to the floor before she lay down on the floor, curling up into a ball as he tears ran quickly from her eyes and down her cheeks
