Chapter 22

She smiled as he tugged her along the corridor, the blindfold he'd made her wear, after much resistance on her part, keeping her from seeing where he was taking her. She guessed it had something to do with how everyone had been acting the past two weeks; she wasn't completely oblivious even if that was what Aden wanted to believe. She knew that something was going on and that she was more than likely the only one not in on it, seeing as everyone else eminently denied her suspicion whenever she broached the subject. But she didn't really mind at this point because no matter how much her natural instincts were telling her to find out exactly what was going on she also wanted to give Aden his chance to surprise her.

She could hear hushed tones drifting down whatever corridor it was she was being escorted down and had to hold in a laugh as she distinguished Mattie’s berating tone and Drew and Rics despondent ones though she couldn’t define what they were being told off for.

The voices got louder as she felt Aden turn her towards a doorway and then suddenly everything fell silent. She felt his gentle fingers run through her hair before working the knot of the scarf around her eyes open.

Blinking at the sudden addition of light she tried to inspect the scene in front of her a large smile forming on her face as everyone yelled.

"SURPRISE."

She was speechless, the room was amazing in itself, it had been decorated in different themes the relevance of which she had not yet figured out. But it was her friends that were the most amazing to look at, all the attendees of the clinic were smiling and laughing as balloons and poppers were thrown about, each of them dressed in a different costume. Mattie as a gypsy complete with little gold bells circling her waist chiming as she moved, Lucas an old school detective a pipe dangling from his lips, Ric a fireman, Drew a race car driver and from what she could tell Nicole was a princess; mainly her costume consisted of a lot of pink and sparkles.

She turned to Aden confusion marring her features but he could tell that she was happy if not a little unsure of just how crazy her friends have gone.

“Aden?” she asked as she looked up at his smirking face. “What is this.”

“It's your birthday party,” He told her as if it was obvious. “The last nine of them that you missed out on all in one.”

“My birthday was over three months ago.” She told him hoping not to spoil his plan.

“I know that!” He told her. “But it wouldn't be a surprise if it was on your birthday.” He finished hugging her tightly to him.

“Come on lets go talk to the others.”

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

“Guys this is so nice of you to do.” Belle gushed as she caught up with Mattie and Ric at a table piled with food and cake.

“Don't worry belle.” Ric told her his mouth full, she smiled at the typical Ric-ness of it. “You know we'd do anything for you, and I do mean anything it’s one of the perks of being labelled a crazy.” He smirked.

Smiling warmly at her friend Mattie pulled Belle in for a hug. “Why didn't you tell me that you hadn't had a birthday party since you were eight?” She asked her best friend a twinge of sadness coating her voice.

“It never came up?” Belle asked hopefully but resigned herself to answering when Mattie merely raised an eyebrow. “Later.” She told the tanned blonde as she thought of the conversation they would share somewhere more private once the party was over.

“How the hell did you get the doctors to agree to this anyway?” She asked as Lucas came to join them picking at a piece of cake. She had surveyed the room at depth and had discovered a different themed area for each year she’d missed a birthday, the work her friends had put in was truly awe inspiring.

“Aden did most of the convincing,” He told her. “But for some reason he thought it best that Nicole and Mattie tackle Pullman instead of him, you have any idea why that is?” He asked her laughing at the innocent look she had forced onto her face.

“Nope.” She told them and everyone laughed.

“Really?” Mattie probed. “It wouldn’t have anything to do with a flour trail from the kitchen to your room bout two months back?”

“I don't know what you’re talking about!” she continued with the charade looking anywhere but her friends. Spotting Aden talking to Geoff or rather being cornered by Geoff she turned back to her friends, “I think I should go save him!” She informed them.

“Yeah he looks about ready to convert just to get rid of him.” Lucas conceded. “But this isn't over Taylor.”

Smiling brightly she turned from her friend but was stopped as Mattie hugged her once again. “He really cares about you Belle, he's a good guy.” She whispered in her ear.

“That's what I’ve been telling you.” She whispered back before leaving to go help her boyfriend.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

“This is amazing.” Belle told Aden from her position wrapped in his arms, “I don’t even know how to say thank you for it.”

“Don’t worry about it.” He replied kissing her lightly, “You’re not the only one enjoying themselves.” He said and she smiled as she caught sight of Nicole being twirled around the room her princess costume spinning around her as Geoff dressed in a long robe led the way.

“Okay, I give in what is Geoff supposed to be?” She asked confusion marring her features. “I don’t get it.”

“Well we said costume party and he got really excited.” Aden began to explain. “We all placed bets actually, trying to guess what he would come up with. We weren’t even really sure who he was when we actually saw him earlier but seemingly he’s Noah pre arc of course, he couldn’t get his hands on any wood to build one is my guess. Needless to say no one won the bet.”

Laughing along with her boyfriend Belle continued to survey the room, she watched as pirates and fairies and cats played party games, and grinned when she noticed Rachel beat Dr. Pullman at hitting the piñata, and she couldn’t find the words to adequately describe the feelings welling up in her, she felt a true feeling of belonging to something.

“Amazing Aden.” She whispered to him as she turned to face him fully her eyes capturing his in a meaningful glance.

“I'm glad you’re enjoying yourself.” He told her leaning in to kiss her once again but was stopped as she pressed a figure to his lips.

“Not the party.” She explained. “You. You’re amazing.”

The party was great. I kinda hope Mattie and Belle have that conversation about why she didn't tell Mattie about not having party since she was eight.

I agree with Belle, Aden really is amazing.

Geoffs costume cracked me up. As well has Belle hearing Mattie telling off Drew and Ric. Seriously is there a time when Mattie isn't doing that.
