And, if I recall correctly, she wanted Aden to go to jail for it. Not that I blame her, Aden stuffed up a lot of things over what he did. And I know she took what she said back, but she did say it. She blamed him for half an episode. But when she saw him at the police station she changed her mind. And can you really blame her? She'd just found out Tony had thought she'd left him. She couldn't get in touch with him and she'd just been tied up Larry who Aden tried murder. When it came down to it, it was her intervention that stopped him going to jail and got him the help he needed. I disliked the reveal too but i don't think it was that awful. She did what she had to do. Quote

I've managed to watch half the episode and was getting ready to have a go at Rachel to be honest after reading the comments but seriously. She told him TWICE he didn't have to go to the ultrasound if he didn't feel up to it. And then I think the thing that upset her was that instead of going to the ultrasound, he went and had a few beers with Alf at the Surf Club. It's not like he was sitting at home crying his eyes out. Therefore, I'm sorry to say, but I really don't think she was selfish at all in this instance. Quote

alexx Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 (edited) Rachel rarely gets that spin, she's always shown to be the saint no matter what she does, which is why I react so strongly to it because I see her as an extremely selfish and manipulative person. If she was being purposefully written that way, with the other characters saying, "Gee Rachel, you're being very selfish and manipulative today!" it would be a completely different thing. If she owned it, like Jazz did, I'd probably even like her for it. But she doesn't. She just does whatever she wants and expects to get away with it. But that would boil down to poor writing! I often think the writers are inconsistent with Rachel - which makes it hard for me to get into the character properly, which is a shame because I think Amy is a great actor. Anyway I think I will jump into the discussion I think people saying Rachel is all about herself is completely ridiculous!! She does what she can for EVERYBODY!! On the subject of getting kidnapped by Rachel like Kirsty said she didnt complain about missing her wedding and she stood up in court and defended him!! Yes Tony has just lost his son and people who have lost somebody close to them will know that nobody can help the way they feel after losing a loved one and all Rachel can do right now is to be there for him when he needs her. Rachel is allowed to be upset that Tony doesnt give a stuff about their baby's scan because he couldnt have been bothered turning up. They tried so hard for that baby and after all these years Rachel had what she always wanted a stable home , a "soon to be husband" and a baby and after everything shes been through Tony doesnt seem to care . There is 2 sides to every relationship. Quote
crazylazy Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 wellthis thread has taken on a new rease of life i think everyone has their own opinions you can't like everyone after all - what annoys some people doesn't annoy others - thats just life personally tho i like rachel - i think shes trys to do the right thing but sometimes its not for the best - she thinks as a doctor first but of late i think her personal feelings are hindering her judgement (hormones, love (being pushed away) and grief probably the worst 3 emotions to be running about at the same time) i think the way the writers have written rachel has been both good and bad somethings are really well written and other things are a bit off - but amy still portrays them exeptionally well Quote

Tony should be leaning on Rachel for support instead of pushing her further and further away. I feel for Rachel in this situation because she doesnt know what is best for Tony right now. When she is trying to comfort him he is rejecting her and he is upsetting himself but when she is staying away and letting him get on and working then people are critiscizing her for being at work all the time. There is 2 sides to every relationship. you are so right!! i don't know why everyone is beng so harsh on rachel, she is just trying to help tony move forward fomr everything that happened with jack and it must be really hard for her knowing what tony is going through but always feeing like shes in the wrong. tachel will find a way through it though Quote
