I would love for her to tak 3/4 months off but not a year. It would be nice for her to spend time with Tony and the baby but I don't know why I just don't think I would like her off work for that long. Quote

Knowing her she will just go back to work in the hospital straight after bub pops out. I'd like to see them have a little family. Maybe a year without doctoring. Me too. I'm tired of all her hospital scenes. Although it's great to see her being this strong professional woman, i wish they'd have more scenes of her just doing normal stuff and not being a career woman. I hope they give her time off to be with her baby. She's wanted a child for so long it's a bit silly if they just send her straight back to work. But doctors don't get a lot of maternity leave so they could have a story with that. Quote
suzannelgnz Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 I think one of the problems with Rachel is the writers have caused so much trouble with her and babies (Kim couldn't conceive, then him having a baby with Kit led to her getting desperate for one of her own, then her having a miscarriage with a guy who didn't want the baby then Tony having had a vasectomy that probably wouldn't be successfully reversed) that if she so much as mentions a baby now people think "ugh stop moaning about babies" Haha. Plus she's such a strong female character that sometimes she's a little too headstrong and feisty. Sometimes being headstrong is good, and we can definitely can see this in rachel. I'm sure I have already said this but, Rachel is like any normal woman of her age. She really wanted to be able to settle down and have a husband and children eventually. With Kim, he didn't want kids because he was so much younger than Rachel and then of course he became infertile just after he'd managed to get another woman pregnant.She then found an old friend who really wanted to give her everything she's always wanted but she was married and trying to work things out between her and Kim.She cheated on Kim but Hugh put her in a situation that she didn't want to be in.She then had to go through a marriage breakdown and an intern who was smitten with her. He then broke her heart just after he wanted things to be long term, and she had ended up pregnant which was what she's always wanted.She then had to go through a miscarriage, before she was kidnapped by Reverend Hall.She really showed her caring side after that when she kept going to visit him in hospital, and she did the same again when Aden kidnapped her (she visited Aden and Larry + she pulled strings to keep aden out of prison). With the whole Tony grieving for Jack, she has tried so much to do the right thing by everyone but unfortunately she's failed miserably until now. But, she's doing things to make it up to Tony, and we saw this when she said about how it must be Deja-Vu for him becaue of the nature of Kate's death. Rachel tries sooo hard to do the right thing by all, but it doesn't always work out. However what she wants to convey is always shown in way or another. Amy has done really well and especially this year so things can only get better (in terms of her performances as Rachel). Quote
KirstyEkua Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 I just want to mention i love how she mentioned Kate today during her scene with Tony in the kitchen. That was really touching and it's nice she was able to understand how he was feeling. It was sad when she said she didn't want him to push her away becasue she couldn't stand it any more. I guess that's a little insight as to how she's been feeling recently. I didn't realise how short she is I guess it's because they usually have her in heels. When she hugged Tony today she looked tiny. Quote

Because starting a poll like that isn't continuing the fight effectively causing trouble? I like Rachel anyway, she just cares too much about everyone. That is not necessarily a bad thing. I am actually hoping that lots of Rachel fans vote and show their support, because I think it will take a lot of the heat out of the argument that I'm somehow turning everyone against her. I really really really don't want to fight about this anymore, I just want to put a number on it so I can point to it and say "here, this many people love her, and this many like her, and this many don't care at all." Everyone needs to stop taking things like this seriously, if everyone agreed on a character we'd never have an interesting discussion. It doesn't seem fair that just because emmasi, you write so well and people generally seem interested in reading your posts that you should be forever condemned for hating Rachel. I have seen people get cross with you time and time again but loads of people share the same opinion as you! It's bizarre. Sorry if this is spamming, it's just the Aus Discussion thread was getting a bit scary. And I don't want to stir anything up I just wanted to have my say. Yesterday's episode didn't, to me, feel like Rachel really understood what Tony needed, it'd be nice to hear her tell him she loves him at a time like this but I guess that's down to a lack of screen time for the couple. I think it's just the way she talks that annoys me, not actually what she says. I'm not sure when it changed but I'm going to date it back to the Kim/Rachel split.
