Thanks for clearing that up, but I'm still confused

Oh wait so if Rachel studied to be a Psychiatrist that means she specialises in only mental illnesses. But psychology actually is the science behind people's behaviour and the reasoning behind it. So if Rachel was a qualified psychologist that would make her right when she makes suggestions about a situation should be handle.

Sorry if that makes no sense  !!!

Rachel was a Psychiatric Registrar. As I understand it a Psychologist can suggest strategies for behaviour modification, a Psychiatrist can do that but can also prescribe medication for Psychiatric disorders.

I was an Educational Psychologist. I worked in schools.

Okay still she doesn't have as much knowlegde as a qualified psychologist which deals with human behaviour/actions. So when Rachel tries to help people with their problems she isn't always right because she isn't actually a psychologist.

That's why she was helping Jimmy, right? He suffered from a mental illness.

A psychiatrist probably has more knowledge than a psychologist in some fields.

A psychiatrist ( I think) has to complete a full medical degree then extra study for the specialisation.

A psychologist does 4 years of study and then a couple of yeras of supervised practice.

What you wrote makes sense yet I don't understand how can a Psychiatrist know more than a psychologist, a Psychiatrist area is mental illness giving out medication to help manage the illness.

Sorry I'm still feeling confused. I'll shut up now, if you can get me to understand that will be a mircle  (I think I need something to eat... :P)

I did some research

What is psychology?

Psychology is the study of people: how they think, how they act, react and interact. Psychology is concerned with all aspects of behaviour and the thoughts, feelings and motivation underlying such behaviour.

Psychology is a discipline that is firstly concerned with the normal functioning of the mind and has explored areas such as learning, remembering and the normal psychological development of children. Psychology is one of the fastest growing university subjects and is becoming more and more available in schools and colleges.

Psychologists deal in the way the mind works and motivation, and can specialise in various areas such as; mental health work and educational and occupational psychology.

It is useful to remember that psychologists are not usually medically qualified and only a small proportion of people studying psychology degrees will go on to work with patients.

What is psychiatry?

Psychiatry is the study of mental disorders and their diagnosis, management and prevention. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who have qualified in psychiatry. They often combine a broad general caseload alongside an area of special expertise and research.

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is conducted in several different ways for example individual, group, couple and family psychotherapy. They are all ways of helping people to overcome stress, emotional problems, relationship problems or troublesome habits.

There are many different approaches in psychotherapy, these are "talking therapies" which include;

cognitive behavioural therapies

psychoanalytic therapies

psychodynamic therapies

systemic and family psychotherapy

arts therapies

play therapies

humanistic and integrative psychotherapies

hypno-psychotherapy

experiential constructivist therapies

A psychotherapist may be a psychiatrist, psychologist or other mental health professional who has had further specialist training in psychotherapy. Increasingly there are a number of psychotherapists who do not have backgrounds in the above fields but who have undertaken in depth training in this area.

Consultant psychiatrists in psychotherapy are medical doctors who have qualified in psychiatry and then undertaken a three or four-year specialist training in psychotherapy. Their role is in the psychotherapeutic treatment of patients with psychiatric illnesses

I don't think she whines or moans any more than any of the other female characters on the show, I personally think she's one the least self-centered characters the amount of time she gives up for other people and the way she's putting all of Tony's needs before hers.

I didn't post the last comment to attack anyone or start a fight. I was just saying that when I watch some scenes with Rachel in it it appears to me that she is "worrying" and that worrying can be mistaken as whining. and who's to say that Rachel doesn't "worry", "moan", "complain" the same amount as the other characters on home and away. It's just more noticable to me when Rachel worries about some issue, which I find annoying.

I know you didn't :) I was just writing that as a comment, it wasn't aimed at what you'd said. Rachel has done nothing but worry since January  Getting a little tiring now...

I've confused myself reading above and don't know the strict difference, all I know is Rachel trained as a doctor and then done a further degree or further training to qualify as a psychiatrist, a doctor who deals with mental health issues (anything from drug addiction, to counselling etc) who can prescribe medication for it. Hope that helps! And thank you John for explaining it, I got totally confused

Yeah I'm confused too! But my point is if Rachel hasn't been trainned in the area of human behaviour and it's reasoning behind it, then when she gives out advice to people it doesn't make her right. :) But when it comes to people who are dealing with a mental illness then she is capable of giving out advice because she has been educated in that area. I'm not saying that Rachel isn't allowed to help people or give out advice but what I'm trying to say is her advice doesn't always neccessary mean her advice is good. :)

Peace x

A psychiatrist and psychologist are two completely different professions. The main different being Rachel can perscribe drugs etc while a psychologist can't.

Yeah Jimmy had mental problems but she wasn't his psychiatrist. She was his doctor.

Of course she's not always going to give out the right adivce. No one is perfect. But her heart is always in the right place, i think.

Anyways, moving on.....

Talking about Jimmy i'm disappointed they let that disappear so quickly. It was a little strange. He was obsessed with her then suddenly he's fine. That really doesn't happen.

I do wonder if they'll ever mention Brad again. It would be nice seeing as they were pretty close. And i know i keep harping on but i want to hear about her dad. There's so many unresolved issues there. I'd like to find out a little more about her family history.

I'm sure her intentions are good it's just annoying when she thinks she's right all the time. When she may not be. No one is perfect thats true :)
