Cal Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 I wanna go to a bunch of those countries as well. I really want to go to Mongolia some time, and maybe Hong Kong and Singapore as well. Oh! And Malaysia and Oman! In Europe I want to go to Ireland and Turkey. And Svalbard, even though that's technically a part of Norway There are a bunch of destinations in Africa that would be interesting as well, especially Namibia, Egypt and Tunisia. And I want to go to Australia and New Zealand. And of course, my favourite country in the entire world: The Federated States of Micronesia! Micronesia looks so nice. But I'm afraid that it will be too hot for me. And Svalbard looks really cool... and quite empty for its size:D I've only been to Ireland once. Dublin is a fantastic city. Although on my visit, I had an encounter with a drunken person. Not nice. =P LOL, Welcome to Ireland! Dublin is really good. It may not look terribly attractive, but 90% of the people are really nice. The other 10% are idiots. I think my favorite part of the city is Ringsend. It's a bit rough and scary, but there is something nice about it.
speedwayfanatic Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Travel is one off my favourite subjects. I haven't done much travelling am hoping to do more in the next few years! I went to France when I was younger, visited Disneyland and Bagatelle. Bagatelle is much better than Disneyland. Wasn't to keen on France. First time we went we had an accident. I have also been to the Channel Islands a few times. They are inbetween U.K and France if anyone wants to know. In 2007 I went to Lanzarote, I had to fly out on my own. It was first time I had been on a long flight and been on my own! Lanatrote was really nice, despite what everyone says about the place. I would go back tomorrow. Added bonus got a nice tan! lol Whilst in Lanzarote I managed to catch a bit off Home and Away on RTE1 I think. Got confused to what I had alredy seen. I like to set my self challenges and decided I would like to go to Prague! I had heard so much about it from people who went, so I decided I would love to go. I was going to go with my sister but we had a falling out at beginning off year, so was going to go with my mum but she couldn't make her mind up. I was discussing it with my dad and he decided he would come with me. He wasn't keen on flying. We had about 8 weeks to go before we went. I did think he would back out before we went. We arrived and had a look around, but didn't go far because it was getting late. Following day we went up to Wensclelas Square, we was taken in the buidings as we was travelling up. We didn't realise how big it was. (didn't do much research before hand) We also headed to Charles Bridge but dad didn't seem to want to have a look and they was doing work on the bridge. In the afternoon we was looking for a nice restaurant and found one with looked cheap! Later we went back and decided to go and see what it looks like. It doesn't look that great when you enter, but the food is amazing and the portions was very reasonable. Dad was happy as beer was cheap to, less than a pound a pint! We decided to stay to that restaurant for rest off our stay! We did have a look at Prague Castle, whilst we was there. Managed to get some lovely views from the castle. Both off us fell in love with the city and decided to go back again, we went back in September and again had a great time! We still think we have missed some off the sights off Prague and we never went on the river, visited the zoo etc... I would reccomend this beautiful city to anyone! I have set myself another challenge, I would like to go to Barcelona next and maybe Budapest. I love going to airports, I get the biggest buzz
Barbara Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 But San Francisco is my favourite American city, it's so pretty and there's something European about it, i don't know what it is. It's also my favourite American city. I didn't stay there long though. I never saw the Golden Gate Bridge entirely. The top was always hidden by the fog. I ate the best Chinese food I ever tasted in Chinatown. Has anyone been to Las Vegas? Even though it's extremely tacky it's so well done. It's like a giant playground for adults. Unfortunately when i was there i was only 19 so couldn't play in the casions But it was awesome. I didn't really like LA though. Hollywood was just dirty and cheap and didn't do anything for me. I was really disappointed. I spent 3 days in Las Vegas last year. I loved it. I was 22 but I didn't play in the casinos. I didn't know how to use the machines and I needed the money for the rest of the trip. I had to stay with my sister who was 19 back then. She couldn't come anywhere near the slot machines. One guard asked us how old we were. When my sister told him she was 19, he practically yelled at her. She wasn't even near a slot machine. I loved the atmosphere, the special effects from each hotel. I loved the fountains in front of the Bellagio. The pirate show in front of the Treasure Island is pretty good too. You have to see Las Vegas at night. All those lights... it's spectacular. You can walk around in a tank top at midnight. It's still hot (in July at least). Don't forget your bottle of water. I went to France, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Italy (quite a few times), Spain, Ibiza, Lanzarote, Portugal, Croatia, Switzerland, the UK and the USA. My best holiday was last year. I spent 24 days in the USA. It was great but a bit tiring. It was a long road trip. I went to quite a few places: Los Angeles, Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Francisco, the Grand Canyon (it's beautiful), Flagstaff, Palm Springs (way too hot over there; it was like 47°C), the Dead Valley (also way too hot), some other canyons... I went in four states (California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah). It was totally worth the 13-hour flight. I love travelling but I don't feel very comfortable on a plane. Other trips I loved were the ones in Tuscany (Italy). Siena is such a lovely city. There's this ice cream parlour on the Piazza del Campo. It's the best ice cream ever. Rome is also a really nice city. The Trevi Fountain at night is just amazing. I went there with my high school. It was the best school trip ever. So many good memories. I've been quite a lot to France. I went to Paris three times. It's a beautiful city with some great museums (and I'm not a big fan of museums so that says a lot). The Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay are my favourites. The shopping is pretty great too. I also went there with school. We had a lot of free time. The teachers let us do what we wanted (within reason obviously). I went to Switzerland because my cousin lived there. He's now living in Russia so I might go there one day. I also have family in the UK. So I've been to Somerset and Devon. I only met a few relatives but I'm supposed to have a lot of relatives in the UK. My grandfather's grandmother had 21 kids (I think only 15 of them survived). They all lived in the UK, except for my greatgrandfather who moved to Belgium. That means there are a lot of relatives I've never met. And I go to London at least once a year. I love London even though it's expensive. I didn't really like Croatia. I went in 2000 after the Kosovo war. It was really cheap back then (maybe it's still is) and dad wanted to go there. It was nice but we were in a little town where there wasn't much to do. I went to Dubrovnik by bus. Let me tell you. Bus drivers are crazy over there. They didn't speak English or very little English. There were a lot of hotels in that town and therefore lots of tourists. It was really annoying that most people didn't understand what you wanted. And there were pebbles on the beach. I prefer sand. And the water is in the swimming pool was way too salty. I'd like to go to New York, Wilmington (Northern Carolina), Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Greece, Ireland and maybe a country in the north of Europe. I've heard Sweden (especially Stockholm) and Iceland are really nice. If I ever go there, I'll go in the summer. And maybe I should start by visiting some Belgian cities I've never been to. For example, Antwerp (I went to the zoo a few times when I was younger but that's it), Bruges, Ghent and Namur.
champagne_char Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 Kirsty this is such a fantastic idea for a thread! Travel is my fav subject to talk about. Im incrediblly lucky to have been to lots of places...all over the world in fact. But the biggest difference is that they have all been holidays. Staying in a hotel for two weeks in a place just doesnt count to me as 'travelling' do you get what i mean. Ive been to England, Ireland, cotland, Wales, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Austria, Swizterland, Poland, Greece, Holland, Belguim, Canary Isalnds, tunisia, Morroco, USA, Mexico and Dubai but theyt have all been holidays with the family so I eally dont consider myslef to be well travlelld! Im currently saving and cannot wait until I can go round the world with a rucksck on my back, and money for just the bare necesseties, the cheapest hostels and rice and bread to live on. To me THAT is travelling!!! Barbara, We viseted Ghent after coming back from the Germany 2006 bWorld cup. Its one of the most beautiful cities ive been too, you must go there!
Symphony Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 a week tomorrow i move to sydney .. i am so excited!
Cal Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 I'd love to go to Russia. I don't know what the people are like. I see them as scary communists. But I want to be wrong... so I have to go and find out!
rachel&kim Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 ^^ Me too! St Petersburg looks just amazing. Every time I read this thread I realise how many more places there are that I want to see. Ideally I'm going to take a couple of years out after university. Or maybe in the middle as I'm almost certainly going to fail.
suzannelgnz Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Same here, I have seen a lot of programmes where people have travelled to Russia and everything just looks so beautiful. Russia would be the place that I would take my Dad to, because he hasn't really done a lot of travel and he is intrigued by what he has seen on tv, and the internet, and I think that he would especially enjoy being able to see the architecture and experience the Russian way of life
halcyon06 Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 I'm heading off to Thailand! We are staying for a few weeks and travelling around some of the islands, anyone got any good experiences from there!?
KirstyEkua Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 Omg that's so amazing. Thailand is beautiful! Definitely stay a good few days in Bangkok. It's crazy and smelly and chaotic but totally wonderful. Go on the floating markets and visit the Palace - it's stunning. Also there's a massive outdoor market when you can buy anything, literally We saw everything from puppies and kittens to kitchen tables and clothes and food. We went to Koh Samet which is one of the smaller islands but totally magical and i loved it. We just hung by the beach and ate amazing food. Just a tip, when you get a taxi get a price before you move off, do not let them turn on the meter Haggle, it's the only way to get it fair. I'm going back to Ghana in Sept so im totally excited about that. Visiting the school i worked at and i'm also hoping to spend a few days in Burkina Faso and Togo...i'm in love with Africa I liked Morocco but honestly wasn't impressed with Marrakech. I peferred Essaouria. It was a lot friendlier and laid back and i loved sitting by the sea eating fresh fish We also travelled up to the mountains which were just stunning. I have a new favourite city - Havana in Cuba. It was just amazing. I loved walking through the city and exploring little alley's and shops etc. And the Cuban people were so lovely. For me it's the people that make travelling so rewarding. I guess that's why i just don't feel connections with North Africa and Dubai - the people i met there didn't exactly make me feel weclome.
