Chapter 13

4 years had passed and Belle had finally reclaimed her life back. She no longer needed to take anti-anxiety pills and she and Aden were closer than ever. Aden had finished year 12 successfully and scored an Op of 5. He is now a qualified psychologist.

{Taylors- The Abused Child Trust Preschool}

After Belle had gone through a similar experience to Aden, once she dealt with it she realized she wanted to give back to society and help children like her boyfriend who experienced sexual abuse. Taylors is not just for children who suffered sexual abuse it is for all types of abuse whether it be physical, sexual or psychological this specialized preschool helps children from aged three to five. With a team of teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, doctors, pediatricians and social workers. Aden also works at Taylors as a psychologist, working mostly with children who have experienced sexual abuse.

There is a little boy who sits quietly in the garden and will not come inside. Belle doesn’t attempt to go near him. If she did he would flinch at her voice, cringe if she comes too close, or he will try and bite her. One day Belle went out into the garden to check and see if he was alright, as fast as he can his first instinct is to hide behind the tree. To help encourage him to not feel afraid Belle plays peek-a-boo. Belle imitates his reaction and hides as well. She peeking out at him Belle says “Peek-a-boo” whilst opening her hands in front of her eyes.

“Hey sweetie” Aden and Belle sit in the garden and eat their lunch.

“How is your day so far?” Belle asks knowing that Aden will have a sad tale to tell.

“Well…there was this one girl who I was with and she had obviously experienced some kind of emotional abuse and she had two dolls. I thought to help her express her feelings she should do a role play with the dolls….which she did” Aden looked saddened as he remembered this small innocence bright young girl.

“And…?” Belle looked sympathic. She had dealt with so many different cases listening to their stories never got any easier.

“She picked up the dolls held in tightly in her fist and said you’re stupid….you’re ugly and stupid” Both of them were silent this wasn’t a rare occurrence at the preschool. There a days when the children become aggressive and bite or slap Belle and Aden as well as the other employees.

“Abused children…they just don’t know whether their adult or a child” Belle jumped into the defense of the child even though she knew he wasn’t victimizing the child.

“I know…every time I hear or see the effect that the abuse has had on the child…Belle it just breaks my heart”

“And darling that’s why were doing something about it….trying to undo the damage that these irresponsible parents have inflicted on their child” They were both nearly in tears but held them back remembering that there was hope. To Belle her preschool wasn’t a place of fear and despair it was a place of hope.

“How was your day?” Aden asked Belle hoping she would have something positive to say.

“Yeah it wasn’t great… do you remember Lily?”

“Yeah…she’s the one with the pretty blonde hair and green eyes.”

“Yep...today she was playing I was playing with her and I said to her I see the lion is sleeping beside the dinosaur it must be nap time. Then I said oh dear, the lion is hitting the dinosaur now, he is angry with her? Lily just nodded and asked is that mummy? And is the lion daddy? Then I replied Oh dear the lion is very angry now and he is really hurting the mummy- this makes me feel very upset, does it make you feel upset Lily? The hardest part was seeing her reaction, her unfathomable sadness in the tiny movement of her chin. Her eyes became watery….it’s just so sad…I don’t understand why this happens to child…really I can’t understand…”

“Me too” Aden kissed Belle on the cheek. It was time for him to go back inside and see a child by the name of Sean.

“Hello handsome…what are you making there wow you’ve done a really good job mate…that’s fantastic. What did you draw?”

“It’s a tat” He says holding up the picture to show Aden. The cat is drawn in a dark blue colour. The claws have been drawn so that they are bigger than the cats head. The cat’s mouth isn’t a happy expression instead it has been drawn as an aggressive one.

“Mmmm…I think you’re CAT is very cute…do you think the CAT is very cute as well?” Aden spoke in a high pitched voice he empathizes the word cat to let Sean hear what it should sound like. Children who are abused have difficulty pronouncing words. But Aden doesn’t use correction because the kids have enough to deal with without being told what they’re not doing right.

“Yes…I think the Ca…Ca…Tat…is very cute” Sean says it trying to pronounce the word correctly. He can tell by the expression on Aden’s face that he wants him to try and say it with a C not a T sound.

There is a sign on the front door of the pre-school, it clear explains Taylors objective. It reads “Here at Taylors abused children are learning the hardest lesson of all- how to experience the joy of childhood. We offer hope and bring light back into life to scare away the darkness. ”

It's different to the previous chapters, please dont kill me...hope you like it.
