I have decided after all these years that if people have good health, they can get on with studying for a career and become doctors etc. and those of us who don't have good health can't. So therefore the doctors etc. look down on those of us who haven't got brilliant careers and don't see why we haven't bothered, or think of us as lazy or something.

Anyway... next term I'm doing an NVQ level 2 in learning support. Hardly exciting, but it is a start

That sounds really interesting! Helping people with learning difficulties should be very rewarding. At least you'll feel like you're doing something useful and good for other people.

I'll be starting a new job in two weeks time. It's office-based and part-time. Probably won't be as rewarding and won't make me feel as useful but after two years of being a full-time mum it's a new start for me too. At least I'll go back to being financially independent.

The NVQ will be okay... but I've been a support assistant for 10 years, so it is a bit like teaching me to do my job that I already know back to front and sideways. Sorry, I thought I'd said I was a learning support assistant before- I forgot what I've told to who on which forum

These days the government is insisting that all support assistants get a qualification, whereas when I started my job years ago, we didn't need a qualification. Seems like they've got that the wrong way round somehow!

Good luck with your new job! I'd love to work in an office again and get a break from caring for people. I feel like I spend my days at home looking after a toddler, and then I go to work and look after adult sized toddlers. That's why I get so fed up sometimes, it really takes it out of me and I feel like I'm giving, giving, giving all the time. What I'd really like is to go back to being a library assistant, dealing with books and information again and be able to 'switch off' from people for part of the day.

We'll see what happens, I've tried so hard to get a new job lately but nothing has come up. Anyway, as Janice reminded me, at least I've got a job, so that is something :D
