Opening Credits / Opening Theme Discussion

i get the same feeling with the 2010 'opening' as i had with the 2009 titles, it can't really last any longer than a year.

even though i hate that we don't have opening titles any more, i think the purple screen with the Home and Away logo, and voiceover of a cast member saying "Previously on Home and Away" before the recap do look professional. and as the recap tune is the last link to the famous theme tune, i'm glad it has been so nicely arranged this year. but i don't like the recap in super-widescreen and the fadeout into the episode, it looks messy!

and even though they didn't used to show the ad-break bumpers in the UK anyway, the editing seems even more disjointed without them than it was, if that's possible!

for 2011 i would really like to see a 50-second opening at the beginning of every episode on a Monday, using the theme by Doug Williams & Erana Clark (or a modern interpretation of that version) with titles in a style very similar to the mock titles Andrew has been putting up on youtube (very impressive!). after which there would be a short full-screen recap without the recap tune, and fade to black before the episode, as we've seen this year.

then on Tuesday-Fridays episodes i would continue the short intro of 2010 but with the title card from the opening titles instead of the purple screen, and keep the "Previously on Home and Away" voiceover by a cast member. then there would be a full-screen recap with the recap tune rounded off with the title card being shown once again, as we had between 2006-2009.

i would also welcome back the freeze-frame for the final scene of each episode, as the current outro to the titles is far too jerky, and worse than the fade out the we've had for 10 years!

sorry for bringing up an old thread, but i thought now as we edge towards the end of the 2010 season would be an appropriate time to gauge opinions on the opening again

i think if the opening sequence and theme were going to return next year it would have been heavily publicised by now, so we can rule that out.

i'm quite glad that they have maintained the underscore of the theme tune for use during the recaps, which can last over a minute sometimes.

does it still bother anyone else that we have no opening of any kind?

do you think they will change the current set up for the 2011 season at all?

New Zealand still has the closing titles as well. No opening though but I guess this is just standard. We are not too far behind either from what I gather.

New Zealand's closing titles have recently changed and now we get the same as Australia - closing credits over red with promo over top. I prefer it.

I would 100% prefer to sacrifice the re-cap in favour of opening titles each day.

I hate that the producers do not listen to the viewers, who have been very vocal about wanting the credits re-introduced.

I thoroughly dislike the current setup. It should be like it used to be in the 90s;

Opening credits

Short Recap

Episode

Freeze frame

Credits.

Any idea of the best way to try bring them back??

sadly i don't think the producers have any choice in the matter, i am convinced that Channel 7 now have a policy that all it's programmes have either no opening sequence, or nothing longer than 15 seconds which is why it was re-recorded to that length last year. but there's no limit on the lengths of the recaps these days (clearly  ) so now they use the underscore of the theme tune during the recap, which i think makes the best of a bad situation. i see no reason why the freeze frame could not be reintroduced however, that is something i would really like to see again.

get a job at Network Seven and work your way to the top! unfortunately that's the only way they're ever coming back

What is the e-mail address for Seven Australia when asking about these enquiries?

Next year a new set of opening titles reverting back to the original set with the characters as they are now would be brilliant, but sadly it will not.
