I only noticed today that the credits have been revamped. A lot better than that hidious collage from previous years.

Its fab isnt it - it reminds me of the credits in your picture shot :)

The closing credits are great, but if they can film closing credits for international markets, then why not opening credits too?

closing credits can be filmed once and not require any changes all year. they also 'close' the show, at a point where most viewers go to make a cup of tea and the continuity guy is guffing all over them, and so because they have so little expected of them they don't require much thought.

opening credits would have a lot more expected from them, and viewers have come to expect a new take on the theme tune when we get new opening credits which requires more work. they would also have to be constantly updated as the cast changed, and as they learnt 2 years ago they can't feed us cast-less titles. there's also a general aversion these days with channels like Network 7 to opening titles as they imagine viewers have such a short attention span that they won't be able to sit through even 30 seconds of an intro without flicking over to 'Pet Surprise'.

so while ITA with you and want opening credits, i'm not sure it will ever happen again :o

I see your argument (or the networks) but theyre pretty feeble reasons in general not to have a set of opening credits IMO. Theres no reason for them to be changed every year or for the theme to be altered with every change - they didnt in past years and Neighbours manages perfectly well.. if Neighbours can do it theres no reason why H&A cant have a good set of opening titles. If they kept them simple it would be prertty straighforward to add or delete characters at will.. again all the reaons that Neighbours has always had opening titles (except for a year or two which were castless and v short) could apply to H&A. they have no reason atall to have none lol

Hear hear! Gee, it was good to listen to the song again. It's been so long!

a very minor difference today. after the recap faded out today (Episode 5252) it cut directly to the episode, no fade in.

it may be a one off, we'll see tomorrow. i'm just glad to see they are still experimenting.

Cameon said in this week's Inside Soap there are two camps in relation to the theme - one that wants to move forward and another that wants the song back and he is open to either option. All the other soap producers said they would never axe their themes as they are too iconic so it's a shame the Seven bigwigs dont think the same about H&A.

do you have a link to this article, or was it actually in the magazine? i would be really interested to read it.

i honestly think that playing the theme tune every day would be a step backwards, and i have got used to the recap music being the theme tune.

i think it's more sensible since the beginning of 2010 not having it at all, which for me sounds more like 'If we can't do it properly we won't do it.' i would much rather that than a half-arsed 15 seconds job!

if at some point it does return, once a week on a monday at about 50seconds in length would be great, and a similar set-up to what we've had more recently for the other days. :)

Really? I'd say having the theme tune - a proper theme tune - everyday would actually be a step forwards lol I think that very lack of real identity and a mild 'snub' to all the cast that dont get any real recognition (apart from badly spelt end credits that no one sees) really holds the show back. The opening credits are the first thing a viewer see's, hence why every other prog has one. And the shows theme is iconic so why not use it to the shows advantage? I cant honestly imagine any of our shows without their iconic themes - EastEnders, Corrie etc. In fact when the BBC did get it wrong and jazzed up the EastEnders them, they had to change it back after so many complaints. So I think if Seven bothered to listen they could move forward WITH a proper theme. I dont understand why 'moving forward' means having no theme??

I agree its better to have what we currently have than silly poor attempts of the last few years, but I certainly hope they rethink and bring back a proper theme full time (not just Mondays - what would be the point - again it would be half hearted). The comments other shows producers say hit the nail on the head and must tell the Seven execs something!
