I like Emmasi's theory, I don't think he is dead because the cliffhanger 'death' that they have given him is generally for adults. Like say it happened to an adult, they could get amnesia or just run off and start another life and come back years later like Harold but taking account of Zeke's age I don't think they would kill him off like that. If the actor wanted a break, they would send him away, if he wanted to leave, they would kill him.
