emmasi Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 I registered with the Red Cross today, but they said they're overwhelmed with people wanting to donate right now so they might call me back in a month or so. I guess that's a good thing I called the national number, which I guess everyone in the country is doing, so I'm going to go to my local hospital and see if they need blood there on Monday. I may not be in the mood to have my blood drained forever!!
HAA Girl 08 Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 The death toll is currently 181 and has been that since late Tuesday night. There are still so many people missing so it'll rise as they find bodies. Another fire today was put down as arson, it was the Mansfield one I believe. Terrible. Bloody, terrible. If arsons are to blame for this, they need more than a kick in the bum. Great to hear about all of the organisations donating big bucks to help out.
SAB Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 181 people dead. Terrible. That's more than double the number in Ash Wednesday and Cyclone Tracy. And they are saying it'll be more as they begin searching the destroyed towns.
alexx Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 http://au.lifestyle.yahoo.com/b/whomagazin...r-daniel-morgan That is an inspirational story - shocking, I cant believe the horror people went threw last week.
Traceve Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 The death toll is now 189 apparently the reason that they haven't updated it is because they wanted to be certain before adding it on. It's most likely to be updated again tomorrow.
zzazzb Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Death toll has risen to 201 now, and it's NOT expected to keep rising. http://www.theage.com.au/national/fire-dea...90218-8b98.html
Mez83 Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 To the NZ people who were wanting to know where to donate: Kiwibank has an account for it now. Just pop into your post shop and say you want to deposit into the Australian bushfire fund. Kiwibank kick started it with $50,000 and it's growing heaps
Lise Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Thanks, Mez. I will do that when I get paid next week. I never got into K-Mart but the Post Shops are easier.
Traceve Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 Death toll has risen to 201 now, and it's NOT expected to keep rising. http://www.theage.com.au/national/fire-dea...90218-8b98.html It's now 208.
teeann_x Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 My school in Brisbane has adopted a high school in one of the areas that the bushfire destroyed, I think it's called Yel high school or something that starts with Y. Those people have nothing left except the clothes on them but the high school isn't that badly affected unlike the primary school that has been wiped out. Although the high school has lost 2 of their students. The principle there is going to send in some of the pictures of their situation up here for us to see next week. My school is also holding a free dress day and sausage sizzle next Monday to raise money for the victims.
