Ryan Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 Not necessarily. It just depends on what procedure is being undertaken.
John Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 When I had my melanoma removed it was done under general anaesthetic but in a day hospital so I went home afterwards. There was about a two week recovery period. That was an incision about 150mm long. My cancer on my face was about 25mm long and was done under local anaethetic and I went back to work afterwards.
adellejefferiesxox Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 Okay, well this operation is going to be done with local anesthesia. My friend wants to know should they eat before the operation or should they fast?
Nathan. Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 ^The doctor should have already told your friend this. I had oral surgery last week and was put under general anesthetic and I wasn't allowed to eat OR drink for six hours prior to the surgery.
adellejefferiesxox Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 That general anesethic this is local. My friend hasnt been told not to eat but we looked up on the internet together and it said something about not eating, so I dunno lol. Does anyone know how long stitches have to be in for?
grumble bum Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 Usually about 5-10 days. Your friend should ask her doctor if she is allowed to eat before the procedure. All these questions should of been already asked. Why didn't her doctor give her all this information any way?
adellejefferiesxox Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 Good question, and I have no idea.
HAA Girl 08 Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 They used a local anesthesia on me when I had an op for my knee. I don't really know what it's like cause I fell asleep before they told me to start counting ! The stitches depend on the type of operation and I had to fast two hours before going into admission.
tahliamarsden Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 Unfortunately I'm very familiar to all types of anethetic, haha. I have been under general anesthetic 14 times, and local probably about 20. The local anesthetic basically numbs the area, and prevents the patient from feeling a great deal of pain. Sometimes my local has been done in conjunction with my general anesthetic, so I was unable to eat. However when I was having only local, I was able to eat. Hope that helps
adellejefferiesxox Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 Whoa, how come you've been under general anesthetic so many times!!??
