Chapter 3

‘So…’ Tasha asked brimming with excitement, ‘how was your first day as his assistant?’

Martha grinned coyly and said ‘Fun & eventful but that’s all I am saying.’ She smiled. Landing this job was almost too good to be true but she wanted to keep it as long as she was able to.

‘So...’

‘.... What?’ she said as she pulled her heels off and rubbed her sore feet ‘What do you want to know?’

‘Like everything’ Tasha said literally jumping up and down causing Martha to get dizzier each time she jumped.

‘Ok... Not much to be honest just getting to grips with the system. Way too much to learn’

Tasha had the biggest grin plastered along her face ‘You like him’ she said in a singsong voice.

Martha shook her head ‘I don’t beside, he would never go for me’ Martha was very self-conscious of her looks.

‘You are one stunning woman; he would be such an idiot not to want you!’ Tasha reprimanded Martha.

Martha frowned when her phone vibrated and she was so surprised to see Lucas ringing her. She picked it ‘Hey Lucas. What’s up?’

‘It’s Jack, he needs you right now’

‘What for?’ she asked calmly

‘He is in hospital and keeps asking for you...

Martha jolted out of bed, breathing in and out slowly and slowly each time to regain her breath. She calmed herself down slowly and slowly each time she breathed in and out.

Stepping out of bed onto the cold hard laminated floor, her feet recoiled at the touch but eventually got used to the feel of the floor and pushed her feet into her slippers towards the door.

As she stepped out of the door she saw a glint of light come from downstairs and then she heard her father’s voice, but seeing as it was her father’s voice, she cut it out wandered into the bathroom.

She opened the cabinet to find all her toiletries there, she picked out her favourite moisturizer and other things that she needed and tended to her reddened face.

As soon as she was satisfied with her appearance, she bundled her hair up to look normal and went to get changed into ‘smart’ clothes, she officially started her job today and she wanted to keep this one.

‘Wow!’ Lucas said the morning after his last exam ‘It’s an unreal experience’ he commented

‘Unreal experience?’ Jack asked confused yet again ‘What?’ he said as Lucas stared at him dumbfounded

‘Nothing’ Lucas quickly composed himself so Jack wouldn’t comment on it and Jack didn’t. Lucas was slightly wary of Jack’s state of mind, all he seemed to do was sit on the sofa drinking and eating crisps.

It wasn’t exactly the healthiest lifestyle but not really concerned yet, he didn’t say anything.

‘Want to go out?’ Jack asked after a morning of utter boredom ‘Grab a bite to eat, cinema or hit the surf?’

‘The surf isn’t that good today but we can hit the cinema’

‘Cool. Let me get changed and then we will be off... I need to get to a cash point first’

‘Sure. I will meet you at cinema. Need to do something first’

‘Sure’ Jack called out as he went to his room.

‘Martha, come into my office please’

‘Sure Mr Macroyd’

‘Please call me Leo’ he smiled and gestured for her to sit down.

‘Sure Leo it is’ she smiled. She wasn’t sure what he wanted but the one thing she knew was that he was a very nice person. He looked at her with those gorgeous bluesy hazel eyes and she melted inside.

‘I have a job for you to do’

She merely nodded as he continued ‘It will involve you being in a photo shoot’

‘Right…’

‘Relax, you will be my eyes and ears, I need to make sure the photographer doesn’t deviate from the specifics that I asked her to concentrate on’

‘Ok, who is the photographer’ she asked as she got out her notebook to jot it down so she didn’t forget about it

‘Her name is Belle Taylor’

‘Belle?’ Martha asked confused ‘The Belle Taylor?’

‘Problem’

Martha took a deep breath and surprised herself by saying ‘Yes, there is I am sorry but she isn’t someone I can meet’

Leo sat back in his chair ‘What?’ but when Martha didn’t immediately respond he waited. It was obvious that she didn’t want to say anything

‘Ok, family stuff, I had a boyfriend who my dad never did approve of and he made us separate and when we did he made sure that I couldn’t have any contact with anyone related to them’

‘And… How does Belle feature?’

‘Belle is my ex’s brother’s girlfriend and my dad….’

‘Wont let you...’ he finished the sentence off for her. ‘Well this is work and if he has a problem then he can consult me… ok?’

‘Fine, on your own head be it’ she said resigned to the consequences once her father found out, she would still cop it even if he said that he could and would be able to deal with it.

‘I will deal with it’ he said in an authoritative tone so that she thought nothing of it, if he thought that he could deal with him then he could deal with him. She didn’t want to think of the consequences she could or would have to face and she didn’t want to have to deal with it.

Sorry it has taken me nearly a month to get this update up but I have been so busy revising and family issues got in the way but here I am and I have 2 more updates coming as well. Please read and comment honestly, any constructive critiscm is appreciated. Enough of my waffling; enjoy the chapter.

Chapter 4

Jack wandered around after the film while Lucas was on the phone, being so in love was sickening but he couldn't begrudge Lucas it.

Flashback

'Stop it' Martha giggled as Jack tickled her 'It hurts' she began to laugh and cry at the same time.

Martha struggled but she couldn't get away from him but then again she didn't really want to.

'Sorry' but he didn't stop tickling her and his hands pinned her down. She aimed a kick for his stomach and pushed him off.

'Hey' Jack complained but he didn't stop tickling her in her sides where she was the most ticklish

She then jumped up from the sofa and said 'No more tickling'

'How you going to stop me' he said as he crouched down and headed towards her slowly with Martha backing away at each step.

'Then no making out for you' she put her hands on her hip and Jack knew she meant it

'Hmm' he pounced on here nearly making her topple over and kissed her full on the mouth. Martha kissed him back and her hands went up Jacks' shirt.

Jack moved back slightly 'Are you sure you want to do this?'

Martha smiled 'yes' before she kissed him again and led him towards her room.

Kicking the door shut on the rest of the world….

'So... How was your photo shoot?' Martha's boss asked her as she kicked her heels off her feet

'It was fine, just tiring' she commented smiling faintly as she massaged her foot 'the report is on your desk'

He was in awe 'Already?'

'Well... I kind of need a favour'

He picked the report up and nodded 'What favour?'

'I need next week off'

'Any particular reason?' he asked curious

'Not really, well Tasha. My friend really wants to go to the city and she won't go on her own. She just weird'

Laughing 'Sure, how long do you want off?'

'2 days? We will probably stay over there?' she asked sweetly

He nodded 'Ok. Just let the office knows when you need it off and that's fine' he went back to reading the report and Martha left the room.

He picked the phone up 'Plan B' he murmured and nodded his head in response to the guy on the phone 'Don't worry, its fine. I will deal with it.'

Tasha was pacing around the room making Martha dizzy and dizzier by the minute. After her 30^th pace Martha finally snapped 'Sit Down, before I get really pissed off

'What's up with you' Tasha asked meekly as she stopped pacing around the room 'you've been tense since you got here'

'Sorry'

'It's fine. I better go home. Mum will be wondering where I am'

'Sorry I haven't been the best person to hang out with'

Tasha smiled 'That's what friends are there for'

Martha joked 'What to wind them up'

Tasha and Martha looked at each other before bursting into hysterical laughter scaring all the people behind them on the beach, Martha made a young girl jump and run off.

As soon as they managed to calm themselves down. Martha's phone rang. It was her boss 'Come down to the office. I need to talk to you for a bit'

'Now' sounding slightly disgruntled

'Yes' he demanded 'Quickly' before he hung the phone up and walked away from her.

Martha frowned as his abrupt call but nevertheless made her way up the beach to the office. She got to the office a mere 15 minutes later but only to find that there was no one there.

Walking up to the office, she turned many heads with her clothes; she wasn't dressed for a typical day in the office.

Tony smiled as Jack sat in the living room with the curtains drawn. Tony pulled them open 'wakey wakey'

'Aarrgh' he whined 'what you doing?'

'You need to get up and shape up. You cant go out at all hours celebrating every night'

'One night. Stop exaggerating'

'Why? One night is one night too much and you know why'

Jack sighed; he knew it would always come back to this 'Can't you let that go, that wasn't me, that is the past, why drag it up?'

'Because it needs to be' he pointed out.

'For what, because I spent one night out getting drunk, one night'

Tony sighed and perched himself of the side of the sofa and replied softly 'but we both know it wasn't more than once Jack. And you have to understand that'

'Dad. That part of my life is over and I am sorry but I cant have this constant reminder of it'

'Meaning?' he asked

'I will move out if you can't let it go'

Tony sighed to himself 'No you will listen'

Jack made the attempt to get up but Tony wouldn't let him 'Nope for once you will listen to everything I have to say'

Lucas entered the room 'Whats going on?' he asked as he spotted and noticed the tension in the room.

'Your brother needs a wake up call, from the one night he spent all those years ago'

Lucas looked at Jack who had a resigned look on his face 'I have to tell you something'

At that point Jack sprung up 'Don't. Leave it please?' his face was enough to make Lucas back off.

'Fine, but I will tell him'

'Just not now' Jack countered looking at a bemused Tony who was really confused at what exactly was supposed to be going on.
