Thanks for the replies. Revision is going well and sorry about the shortness of this chapter... it is a fundamental chapter so I didnt want to put too much in and risk confusing you.

Chapter 5

She barged into the office and recoiled in shock ‘Dad what are you doing here?’

‘Wanted to see how you were getting on’

He moved slightly and noticed Martha’s clothes choice ‘Couldn’t you have put something over it?’

‘He rang me from the beach, demanding I come now why?’ ignoring her father’s comment about her clothes, she couldn’t care less.

‘Because, he has something to tell you. Something I never realised had happened till this moment’ her father had a wounded look on his face, the first time in a long time that she had ever seen her father display some emotion underneath his harsh and brash exterior.

‘You might want to sit down’ her father added as Martha looked a bit confused

She complied and sat on the sofa opposite to where her boss was sitting. ‘What is it?’ she asked him ignoring her father’s presence. ‘What do you have to tell me?’

He stood up and went near to the window looking out of the window instead of looking at her. Her father quietly stepped out of the room to give them some privacy.

‘Do you remember the ex boyfriend you used to talk about’

‘Which one?’ she asked knowing what he was probably going to say

‘Chase’

Martha breathed in quickly to hide the gasp; no one was supposed to know about him.

‘I guess you are wondering why I know about that?’

She merely nodded looking at his face and his features and she suddenly stood up. Whispering to her quietly… ‘Chase?’

He nodded as tears streamed out of his and her face. ‘I couldn’t tell you but then… your father found out and I just knew I had to tell you everything’

‘But how?’ she asked rooted to the same spot

‘To be honest… that’s bit is a bit weird, after the car crash when you thought I was dead, I felt myself slipping away, you know that,’ he wanted to approach her and hold her but she was still trying to take it in so he kept the distance.

‘Next thing I knew’… he continued ‘I was alive and in a witness protection place’

‘Why?’

He laughed to himself as he told her ‘They revived the wrong guy or so they say. Apparently no one was after me so I was allowed back into reality

‘Why didn’t you come back?’

‘I did but it was 8 months later and you had moved on’

‘Jack…’ she whispered to herself

‘Exactly and I could see how much you needed him and I didn’t want to rock the boat anymore’

‘… How come you look different?’

‘I had surgery before they realised I was the wrong guy so I don’t look the same. My features are still there just not as noticeable as before’

Martha moved forwards towards him for the first time. He still stood there but she still kept on moving towards him.

He caught her in his arms and hugged close to him as he possibly could. ‘I am not going anywhere’ he said as she cried into his chest, she couldn’t believe he was back and she had a future.

She stepped back from him but still holding onto his hands ‘How did my father find out?’

‘Did some digging, he wanted to make sure I wasn’t dodgy’

She smiled as he continued ‘he does care about you’

Martha nodded, she finally realised her father does care despite it all. She didn’t she would ever see the moment when her father displayed some kind of emotion towards her.

Martha was so glad he was there for her still despite everything they had been through.

‘I know’ she moved away from him ‘What does this mean then?’

‘For us you mean?’ he asked waiting for her to answer but she merely nodded still taking the news in and trying to understand it.

‘Up to you’ he said

‘Why me?’

He tilted his head ‘because its your life I have walked straight back into and now it just seems unfair for me to assume that I can just take over your life straightaway’ he paused to catch his breath ‘its your choice’ he said ‘no pressure’ he added as an afterthought.

Martha responded ‘I do need some time, can I just take some time off and figure out what I need to do?’

‘Of course, take as much time as you think you will need, I can wait’

She picked her bag up that she had dumped on the floor and walked out of the room ignoring her father, she knew where she needed to go. Who she needed to be close to.

Even if Chase seems a nice guy, I want Martha to be Jack. I hope to read soon a update.

Chase seems nice. That's probably why he didn't want Martha to be an escort. He may be nice but he is not Jack. Nobody is better than Jack.

Brett seems to have a heart. It's good to know he can be friendly from time to time.

I want to know what happens next.

Chapter 6

Lucas and Jack was in the back garden 'You can't tell him'

'Why not? He won't blame you, it wasn't your fault'

Lucas smiled at him faintly 'he will blame it, but I can cope'

'Can you' Jack countered 'I couldn't, it hurt so much that he said and…' he remembered back to the moment '... I was alone'

'You were never alone Jack' Tony said from the doorway 'Now will someone please tell me what is going on?'

Jack's face paled as Lucas gripped his hand 'I can do this. I have to do this'

Jack nodded 'do you want me to stay?'

'No I need to do this on my own but thanks' he smiled

Jack left the room to leave a scared Lucas and a very confused Tony. He walked away from the house only to spot Martha walking straight for him. She had tears streaming down her face, he stopped and she ran towards him. He opened her arms and she ran into them.

Jack blinked and realised he was still walking with no sign of Martha, it was funny though, she was never far from his mind. He wouldn't let her be, even though her father had banned them from each other, he was determined not to let that stop them from being together.

He talked to his dad on many occasions about him seeing Martha's father and explaining his intentions and trying to get back in his good books but his requests had been shot down every time but then again he did know that it wouldn't work if he didn't have the support of his family.

'So it was you that saw it not Jack?' Tony asked

'Yes, I just didn't know how to tell you' Lucas's tears began to multiply as he went back to the moment when his mother had been murdered.

Flashback

Lucas woke up suddenly hearing a sound that scared him. Normally he would stay in bed and sing to himself slowly to calm himself down but he felt the urge to get up and investigate

Upon leaving his room, his feet began to tremble slightly as the floor vibrated but he picked a phone up; it was Jack's, he had probably left it there when he had come home late from footy practice.

He could hear Tony snoring in the master bedroom but he could hear shallow breathing as well originating from downstairs, he made his way down the stairs towards the kitchen. He saw a fleeting shadow and froze for a few seconds.

The next thing he saw as his mother in shock as this man undressed her, unable to move from the spot she was in, she just cowered. He gave her a drink and next thing Lucas knew she was dead.

He was so afraid of being anywhere near the killer in fear of his own actions, he hid in the cupboard underneath the stairs.

End flashback

Tony's normal first reaction would be to be cold and distant towards Lucas but instead he felt shame and guilt that Lucas felt he could talk to Jack but he didn't feel able to talk to him

'Why didn't you tell me?'

'Because I couldn't'

'That's not completely true' Jack piped up from the doorway. He has just come back.

Lucas looked tired and pale but Jack continued 'Mum died because of your affair'

Tony froze; he didn't know the kids knew'

'We knew' Lucas said. 'Mum was going to take us away from you but your mistress's husband found out and came after mum. The one person he thought would hurt you the most'

Jack could feel the tears leaking through his tear ducts as he remembered the happy go lucky woman his mother was

Tony sat down on the edge of the bed 'I never knew that's why' he whispered to himself and to his wife.

Jack and Lucas sat next to him 'We don't blame you, things happen but the pain it put us all through made us both realise that family is what counts, we need to stick together.

He nodded and hugged both of them 'Please talk to me if you need to, I am here for you'

'do you think Dad means it' Jack asked Lucas as they sat down in the diner together with a drink

'He means it, I can tell by the look on his face, he was disgusted with his actions then and he has done all he can to make it up to us'

They nodded sitting in silence for a few moments before Lucas told him. 'He told me that he chucked you out when I was on my vacation to France with school'

Jack winced when Lucas brought that memory back but he nodded 'he did' Lucas looked upset again but Jack hurried to reassure 'Don't be upset, you didn't force me into the decision, I made it for myself so I could be able to protect you and I don't regret' he said defiantly.

Lucas managed a faint smile as he sat up on the chair 'I don't even know why I kept it from him that long. He should have known before. I should have told him'

There were hurried footsteps a few minutes later as Tony came in. 'Lucas. I need to talk to you right now'

'What for?' he asked as he got up from the table

'I will tell you in private' Tony made no effort to address Jack which made him feel more and more isolated.

'Chase is back' Martha whispered into Jack's ear as she sat opposite to him on the table in the diner after Tony and Lucas had left

'What?' thinking that his ears were playing up

'He's back' she said

'H... h… how?'

'I am not quite sure on the details but he is back'

Jack wasn't sure why she was telling him, as far as he knew, her father had forbidden her any contact with him. She even left for a year to sustain the distance.

'Why are you telling me?' he asked after a few quiet solitude moments

'Because I thought you should know, you out of everyone was there for me and so you should know'

Jack smiled 'I am glad you think that. I better go, got to meet a friend' Jack was making it up but he still thought it was better to avoid any sort of contact with her even if it was really innocent, who knows who was watching her.

'Of course… no problem… I will see you around'

He merely nodded and headed straight out of the diner where he walked bang into Lucas who looked distraught 'Whats wrong?' Jack immediately asked him

'I am leaving…' he said simply before striding off leaving Jack in shock and confused. Walking along the beach, he saw his father in his quiet place and went down to ask him what was going on

'Dad. Why is Lucas leaving?'

'He told you' Tony replied surprised

'Only that he was leaving, I want to know why'

'Listen, please try to understand this. Lucas chose to leave, I don't know why but I think it is because I threw you out all those years ago and now he feels obligated to go through the same you did.' He shrugged as to say I am not sure why

'Did he say how long?'

'He doesn't know but he did say he didn't think he would ever be able to come back' Tears threatened to break his harsh exterior but despite that they just stared at each other an eternity, not quite sure how to respond.

'I need to get out of here' Jack said 'I can't do this anymore'

'Do what?' Tony asked scared because he didn't want to lose the last person he had that he knew that he could rely on because he didn't know how he would cope if he lost him.

'I can't live with you, knowing it was your affair that got mum murdered isn't something I can deal with'

'But you stayed all that time so why is now different?' he asked

'Because I kept it quiet for Lucas's sake but no more' Jack responded defiantly 'No more'

'But where will you go?'

'Anywhere but here' he replied before walking away..

Tony watched as his son walked away from him breaking his heart but doing what he thought was right. If Jack didn't do this then what would be the point?
