No he isn't pointless. He just needs a good story. I think he and Ruby would be a better couple than he and Annie.

Jai is not in any way, shape or form a pointless character.I wish someone on the show would give him and Annie some decent screentime because I find them a lot more interesting and likeable than the characters they do insist on pushing to the forefront.Jai's shaping up to be quite an interesting character, he's picked up a lot of Miles' quirky behaviour and the ability to make a fairly mundane line seem funny. And it's nice that he seems to have become the youngsters' "go to guy" with Annie or Ruby turning to him for advice.

Jai is an excellent character. He's like Miles' son-soul mate. Both of them inject insight and comedy into their designated age groups, and also have the ability to achieve cross-generational humor. It's a gift. Jai is a gift.

For balance I'm going to say that while I think he is an excellent character he unfortunately is not being written with any real focus and thus any real point. I'm sure his time will come. It could be to do with the actor's age or his school committments or something that he has so little to do, but when he does appear, more often than not, he has some sort of impact on me, albeit only a floating one.

I don't think he is pointless, but by keeping him so far in the background he will eventually become pointless. The actor isn't great, and I just don't care for Jai at all. I'll be relieved when he and the rest of his friends eventually leave.

He doesn't do anything though. And i agree his acting is not all that great. Maybe if they give him something juicy to get stuck into he'll change and become better, but right now he's just floating around.
