Red Dust Storm - Sydney

I'm enjoying watching the news for once. It amuses me that up to 15 minutes of a half-hour broadcast is dedicated to dust. I know it's a serious issue which is causing health problems and such, but... "dust"... heh.

I woke up to an orange sky and my mother telling me to close the windows. At first I thought it was smoke from a bushfire, but since I couldn't smell smoke, I eventually realised that it was dust and went back to sleep.

I have asthma and allergies but I didn't have to go outside today so I was alright. Still a bit stuffed-up and dazed, and I ended up sleeping for about 17 hours... (which did NOT get my assignments done )... but... it could have been worse.

If I'd woken up in Sydney to a blood-red sky, I would have thought that the apocalypse had come early. As it is, I'm just taking this as another one of the many signs that it's still coming. Soon...

I live in Brisbane and the dust is really thick. My husband and daughter both suffer from Bronchitis. Every thing is covered in this horrible brown dirt dust. Lucky for us our water restrictions will be eased this weekend so we are able to use our hoses to was cars, homes and businesses. The weather bureau has said conditions should be a little better for tomorrow, but it want be properly cleared until at least the weekend. It has been forcast that this dust could even reach New Zealand.

At first i thought it must have been a bushfire, but then my friend turned up with dust all over her car , and the smell outside made me gag,so i realised it wasn't.

I've never seen or heard anything like it.It was bizzare.

There's a video of it from a place called Broken Hill, I think?

It's on youtube anyway, and a woman is filming outside and the sky is all orange, and then it goes brown and all of a sudden everything just goes black. It was well freaky looking.

I bet there's people writing movies about this already.

Macy- Lol I am planning to write a storyline in my story centered around this but different. See what I plan is that the characters (Set around Brisbane) wakes up to the sky being all reddish and stuff, at first some of them panic but realized it's just a Dust storm.

But! See this story is a supernatural story to begin with, demons and such already exist. They discover in Sydney demons and other supernatural evil beings believe this is the apocalypse and the devil has tisen and plan to destroy Sydney. Since Sydney was one of the places that got hit by the worst it's only those demons that believe the end if coming and not aware it's just a Dust Storm (Demons and such in Brisbane etc don't really notice anything). So the hereos of the story head out to Sydney to save the city before it is taken over by demons and get in all sorts of trouble. And since they have never fought in this kind of condition they are in more trouble as it seems.

If you read that thanks lo. Anyways it's pretty clear here in Brisbane now, sunny. So does anyone know what exactly caused the dust storm?

Edit: Btw since H&A is quite close to Sydeny do you think in about 3-6 months we will see the Dust storm in the bay (Lol that can be the mystery storyline!) or you think that they took a day off on the set?

^I'd say they took the day off. They're much closer to the Central Coast than the actual heart of Sydney, and up here the sky wasn't so red, but there was still a lot of dust. It's perfectly clear today, so if they wanted to film now they could do it easily. That is, if they could arrange to book the beach again. I don't think it would be a big problem, but then I don't know anything about the complexities of filming schedules. At any rate, I don't think it would have made much sense to film scenes in the middle of a dust storm. It can't have been good for the actors or the equipment.

God this looks awful! I hope there haven't been lots of casualties or anything.

We are so lucky and spoilt in England that we rarely have any bad weather events occurring [famous last words]. If this happened here, it would rain the next day and wash it all away
