I always want to enter, and I did get something for the last one, but due to working long hours, I didn't have the time to finish or send. I would like to see if I could get something and enter it, although, what I read on here when others post, it wont be as fantastic as everyone elses. I read the entries, but again, timings just don't work out for me, so I am unable to vote as often as I'd like to. Maybe -like you say- a slight extentsion would work, that way those who work long hours or who are at school/college/uni can also enter.

Sorry you didn't get a chance to enter Callyha! If people in future are in the same position where they run out of time to finish it please let me know. I can't speak for other hosts but I know when I do I'd be happy to extend it for a few days for people, I'm sure we'd all rather that than only receiving one or two entries!

I've entered a few of these, and when I'm inspired I can write a complete one-shot in a couple of days, but sometimes the extra time would be nice. However, then you run the risk of people forgetting about it, and then two days before the closing date, you rush to get something written.

I don't know if this would work with our forum, I've seen thing done on Livejournal with Fic-memes and Prompt-memes. Where members post prompts they want written, ie. One word - Hospital, or A sentence or two - Matilda runs into Lucas at an airport, or Aden/Belle - Spin the Bottle, and authors can come by and claim different prompts. There is not word limit, so authros can just writes drabbles of a couple hundred words, or expand into longer fics. It wouldn't be a contest, but I've seen them generate a lot of interest and awesome results.

I'm not suggesting we change the contest altogether, but just something to consider maybe doing in the future.

I completely agree Jen. I think that sometimes, ideas as to what could be written, as you said, just a small sentence, even helps people on thier way. Once I've started an idea, I never seem to stop & I'm going great - yet I have entered contests before now whereas I have sat at the computer for an hour thinking about what to write.

Thank you for all your replies! Jen that sounds like a good idea, gets everyone involved; even though who aren't confident in their writing skills.

I was thinking on people's suggestions that perhaps we could trial it with having a longer deadline? I'm going away next week for a couple of weeks so maybe if I post a contest later with a deadline for Thursday 7th April we could see if it attracts more people? I'll also post a reminder a little bit before for those who forget. If people are happy for me to try this I'll think of a topic and post it later today!

I didn't get any replies so hope people are happy for me to post a topic, trialling a longer deadline. For those who send entries in, I'm going away for 2 weeks so you won't receive a reply until I get back (just in case you're thinking I'm ignoring you.) Even if you're not confident in your own skills please do give it a go, these contests are really fun and really help to improve your writing. Hopefully you'll all like the topic and will find it inspiring and challenging :)

Quick Fanfiction Contest #23

Topic - A twist

Instead of giving you a theme I've decided to try something different. I'd like you all to write a short fic which 'fools the reader' by appearing to present a situation with perhaps a predictable storyline but then includes an unexpected twist at some point. I'm quite happy for you to interpret it as you wish...it may be a twist which you want to be used at the end of the storyline after appearing to build up to a different conclusion or you might want to write from a first person point of view appearing to present one character's thoughts and reveal an unexpected character at the end. These are only ideas however so feel free to take the topic and use it how you wish :)

You may include any characters past and present.

Maximum word limit: No more than 4,000 words

Deadline: 7th April at midnight (UK GMT time)

Good luck, any questions feel free to ask :)

A final reminder that the deadline is TOMORROW 7th April at midnight GMT time. Please do make an effort to submit as I only have one entry so far and it would be a shame for the contest to not take place.
