freckleface Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Thank you for all your luuurvely comments (: Because I have a raging hangover and a nasty bump on the head from falling down a flight of stairs... I updated the next part. Enjoy! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Charlie? CHARLIE!” Angelo was screaming at the top of his voice up at the window. Charlie had not appeared yet and the smoke was beginning to spiral out of the window up into the inky black sky. “Oh my god, oh my god” he began to mutter frantically under his breath. He ran through his hands through his hair as he paced up and down in the grass. A coughing fit overcome him and he bent double as he cleared his lungs of the toxic smoke. He then noticed his hand was grasping a shape in his pocket. He reached in and pulled out his mobile phone. “Thank god” he said. He was wearing yesterday’s jeans, and he must have forgotten to take his phone out the previous night. He called the fire department and quickly and calmly told the details to them and told them to come quickly before snapping it shut. “Charlie? Charlie?” he tried yelling up to her again, but there was no reply. He strained his ears just in case her answer got lost in the wind but there was no other sound than the crackling fire. What’s happening? He thought. She must be hurt, that’s the only answer he could think of. He paced restlessly, he couldn’t stand doing nothing while she could be in there dying. He shook his head; he wouldn’t let himself think that thought. “I love you Charlie” he whispered, a tear rolling down his cheek. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ She felt funny. She opened her eyes. All she could see was a brilliant white light. Clouds floated past her. This must be heaven, she thought. What a cliché, she laughed at her words, they escaped from her, and like musical notes they floated away, drifting in a non-existent breeze. She shook her head, and colours swam around her, light blue, baby pink, sunshine yellow merged together, spilling from her as she moved. She waved her arm in front of her and stared in amazement as colours trailed behind it, as if someone has smudged paint in a pattern behind it. This is surreal, she thought. Her vision was getting blurry, and the white light seemed to be fading. Suddenly she was filled with a strange sensation, as if she was falling through a tunnel. A sudden jolt rattled her body. She opened her eyes again. She could see herself. Her body was lying next to the window, limp and floppy. Her chest wasn’t moving, and all the colour had gone from her face. Her hair was splayed over the carpet and it was then she noticed the blood. It seeped from her head, matting her sleek hair and staining the carpet. Spatters of blood trailed down the wall, and there was a small pool of glistening blood on the window ledge. The fire had crept into the room, and the flames were lapping at her feet. Am I dead? She whispered. She drifted closer to her body only to be stopped by an invisible barrier. “Hey!” she cried. Something was stopping her from getting close to her dying body. “I don’t want to die! Please!” she began to cry throwing herself against the barrier. But it was impenetrable. Tears flowed down her face as she saw herself take her last breath. Faces began to flash in front of her eyes. Ruby, laughing, dancing, her face alive with happiness. Joey, her old romance, sailing away from her, leaving her alone. Angelo, her boyfriend, smiling at her, reaching out a hand to her face... Everything went black.

freckleface Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 OH MY GOD!! I AM SO SORRY I HAVEN'T UPDATED! I'M SORRY I'M SORRY I'M SORRY! I've had exams on (GCSE's) for the last 2 months and they've been getting in the way of everything. It wasn't until Danni sent me a message (thank you for giving me the kick up the backside I needed) asking if I was going to update. Truth be told, I'd actually lost my way with this story, even I couldn't remember where I was or what'd happened. Quick recap: Big fire, Angelo escaped, phones firebrigade, Charlie collapses etc etc. I felt I had to update this now, and I hit writer's block towards the end so just, Sorry about the quality. Thank you if you stick with this. Love Gee xx --------------------------------------------------- A constant thudding sounded through her head. Always in time, single beat every second. Never faltering. It was so much easier to sleep. Then, the drums didn’t sound. Sleep was peaceful. Something in the back of her mind was niggling her. Something wasn’t quite right. It was as if… the pieces weren’t fitting together. The puzzle was complete except for one piece. One important piece… Thinking drained her. Sleep had no pieces. Once again, she fell back into the silent dreamland. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Angelo? Angelo?” a warm hand gently shook the shoulder of the sleeping figure. He lay slumped back in his chair, his head nodding against his chest. His hair was fluffy and stuck up at the back from where he ran his hand through it constantly, fretting about anything and everything. “Angelo? I think you should go home…” Rachel stooped down to the level of the chair to look him in the eyes. “Hmmpf?” Angelo awoke with a start, and glanced round bleary-eyed. “Charlie…” he whispered, his eyes finding her sleeping form. She lay swathed in a blanket of white sheets, her dark brown locks fanning across the pillow. Her face was expressionless and she looked as if she was in a deep sleep. Or as if she was dead… He shook himself. He couldn’t, he wouldn’t allow himself to think that. Rubbing a hand on the back of his head as he stretched out the crick in his neck he turned to look at Rachel, who was watching him with a concerned expression. “H… how’s Charlie?” “There’s been no change in her condition. She’s stable, for now. It’s difficult with coma patients to know when or… if… they’ll wake up. But Charlie’s reacted well so far so we have high hopes that any day now she’ll be back with us” Rachel smiled feebly at Angelo, trying her hardest to sound reassuring and comforting. “You said that yesterday. And the day before that. And the day before that.” Angelo replied in a deadened tone, staring straight ahead at his comatose girlfriend. “I’m sorry Angelo, I really am. It’s so difficult to tell in these circumstances. All we can do is wait…” “Do you promise me she’ll wake up?” Angelo stared questioningly up at Rachel, his eyes filled with anxiousness. “I…” Rachel bit her lip. Its well enough comforting him, but promising that his girlfriend would wake from her coma… “Rachel, please…” he stared beseechingly up at her, needing someone to tell him that it would all be okay. “I promise.” “Thank you” he mumbled quietly, tearing his gaze away from the doctor and back to Charlie. Rachel stood awkwardly for a moment, lingering by the door watching the lonely man. She let her thoughts wash over for a moment as she stared at the broken-hearted figure before turning to quickly exit the room, already regretting the promise she’d made. The door came to, with a small click, sealing them off from the rest of the hospital. The rest of the world… There was silence within the room for a moment before Angelo moved from his chair. He padded to her bedside where he stood, watching her chest rise and fall, in time with the beep from the machine she was hooked up to. A steady rhythm. One that matched her heartbeat. The only thing that told him she was still alive… “Wake up Charlie…” he whispered, covering her delicate hand with his. “Please, I need you. Ruby needs you. Just wake up…” He continued to stare at her, his eyes wide as he waited for some sign to show she’d heard him. After a few moments of nothing but rhythmic breathing, he sighed to himself and headed for the door. He’d just placed his door on the handle when words came rushing out of his mouth. “Do you remember some of those cheesy chat-up lines I tried before we went out? “You know, you haven’t tasted real coffee until you’ve had it in my kitchen” Oh God what was I thinking. No wonder you used to reject me. And… do you remember that one shout, with the naked guy in the sea?” he chuckled slightly to himself as the memories came to him. “You let me deal with him, and he turned round and gave us all a full-frontal. Scarred me for life that did. And then he refused to come out of the water. I had to strip off and take his clothes to him. And then Miles came along for a good laugh. I still think you just wanted to see me with my gear off, whatever you said. Do you remember Charlie, do you?” A tear trickled down his face as he stared at the ghost of his girlfriend lying in front of him, an empty shell. His upper lip trembled, and he shook his head and wiped away the tear before saying goodbye with a kiss on her forehead. “See you soon Charlie” he whispered as he closed the door. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Something else had joined the beat. It was like… mumbling. Like static on a radio when you can’t quite get the right station. Interference. Leave me alone, she cried, I just want to sleep. But the interference became louder, blanking out the beat. Words started to form in her head. Some coherent, some not. “Charlie… wake up…” That voice… it sounded so familiar. She tried to muster up the strength to think, she needed to know whose voice was that! “See you soon Charlie” “No! Don’t go!” her subconscious cried. Angelo… Angelo… she remembered. Her boyfriend, Her lovely boyfriend. Angelo. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The girl in the bed stirred and murmured words could be heard escaping from her lips. “I… I… I… remember…” But there was no-one near to hear her. No-one to see her finally break-through. No-one to realise the beat had gone. Charlie was alive. And all alone…
