I think its only us. However Marilyn herself (or Emily) said 'Maz speaking' when she picked up the phone a while ago. I wish they would call her that again, I wonder why Lynne McGranger didn't pick up on it since Irene always called her Maz.

It might be a case of "Would anyone call a 40-something woman 'Maz'?"Except maybe another 40-something woman and there aren't many of those around.Certainly, it's hard to imagine teenagers calling their elders that.

Well to me it's more a case of having a close friend that you call by a certain name, you don't just suddenly stop calling them that when you reach a certain age. Sally didn't stop calling Alf "Mr Stewart" when she grew up, because that was how she came to know him as, and it symbolised her respect for him, like "Maz" could symbolise Irene and Marilyn's close friendship (not that they really have one like they used to).

ETA in fact Marilyn herself still calls Alf Mr Stewart and she must be the only one over 40 who does. So there's no reason Irene can't call Marilyn "Maz".

I wonder when she will get a storyline. She has taken over the role Leah had during 2006-2009 - serving coffee in the diner and.... that's it. Such a waste.

Just watched Marilyn's "dating" episode....Emily has never looked better.....She is quite attractive, so I don't understand why she can't get a nice guy....Odd, but fun watching Emily switching gears.

I have to say I'm really disappointed in the way Marilyn's being used - she has
no purpose and just floats about. I was just watching some 90's episodes and
Marilyn was always around talking to people, getting tongue-tied and having
stories of her own. It's such a waste of a character and the
writers are completely to blame. Why don't they understand these iconic and
interesting characters? It seems as though they have no idea what to do with
them so just have them floating around being supporting characters in other characetrs storylines while they put all their efforts into
writing for bland characters that won't be remembered in 10 years time. It's
such a shame - I just want to see my favourite characters have engaing stories
and be develeoped naturally. I've been told by members that they are sick of my
opinions but I just can't bear seeing it happen. I hope the writers see this
and maybe take some action.

It does look like (hopefully) that things might be changing this year but with
Lucy Addario at the helm I
somewhat doubt it. I just don't understand how there was a perfect balance from
1988-2004 and then it started to go horribly wrong in 2005.

ETA: I apologise for the way my post looks - something went wrong when I was typing it up!

I know - I just don't understand how the writers think! It's like they just put all their efforts into writing plots for the younger cast (Braxtons) and the older cast are just extras who get a few scenes each week. I want to see Irene, Marilyn, Alf and Leah all be developed this year and have engaging storylines. TPTB really need to buck up their ideas and realise that WE like the older cast too!
